The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Three days later, the Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau officially issued the commendation document for the criminal investigation team.

This document not only detailed the list of individuals awarded with third-class merit and commendation but also reported the progress of the collective second-class merit application.

The honor has already passed the review of the provincial public security department and is currently in the final approval stage, the situation is set, and there are almost no variables.

More notably, the individual first-class merit application for the criminal investigation team captain Jiang An has also successfully passed the approval and received high recognition from the higher department.

The document especially mentions Jiang An’s outstanding performance in solving several major cases, particularly in the recent heinous case that resulted in four deaths. From the initial clue sorting and intelligence analysis to the later tracking, control, and suspect capture, he led the entire process, making decisive decisions and showing remarkable professional ability and command skills.

His excellent performance is not only recorded in detail in the case file but has also won the appreciation of multiple leaders from the provincial department.

A leader from the provincial criminal investigation brigade even publicly expressed in an internal meeting that if it weren’t for Jiang An’s current important position as criminal investigation team captain, they would have considered transferring him to the brigade as a core member to participate in major case command work throughout the province.

Therefore, the application for Jiang An’s individual first-class merit has received support from various levels of higher departments, unanimously considering it just a procedural and time issue.

In this commendation, individual third-class merit was awarded to comrades Wan and Qin Feng.

In the case investigation, they faced dangers head-on, took on crucial investigation tasks multiple times, and were vital forces in the case breakthrough.

Moreover, two veteran police officers who have been fighting on the criminal investigation frontline for years received individual commendations, reflecting organizational ongoing concern and encouragement for frontline personnel.

At six o’clock that afternoon, Wan and Qin Feng, having just participated in the commendation ceremony, knocked on the door of Jiang An’s office, holding brand-new third-class merit certificates and medals with excitement and solemnity.

As soon as they entered, Wan cheerfully said, ”Mr. Jiang, we really appreciate you for giving us this opportunity to earn merit this time.”

Qin Feng sincerely added, ”Yes, this is the first individual third-class merit I’ve received since I started working, it means a lot.”

”Thank you so much, Mr. Jiang!”

Jiang An got up from behind the desk, smiling as he took the certificates they handed over and looked them over carefully.

Then, he spoke in a warm yet firm tone: ”Don’t thank me, thank yourselves for always persevering, and for your courage and responsibility.”

”The case was solved thanks to your efforts on the frontline, enduring the tough conditions, it’s well-deserved.”

Wan hesitated for a moment and continued to suggest, ”Mr. Jiang, whenever it’s convenient, Qin Feng and I would like to invite everyone for a meal.”

”Although the honor is ours, the case was solved by everyone together, everyone contributed.”

”We plan to use the bonus for a collective celebration.”

Jiang An quickly waved his hand, his tone both kind and resolute: ”No, the bonus isn’t much, you should keep it for yourselves.”

”Offering a meal is a good idea, but not at the expense of your bonus.”

”As a team, our unity doesn’t rely on eating and drinking, but on mutual support and trust during actual combat.”

”Keep this money, buy something for your family or girlfriend, that’s more worthwhile.”

He paused, his eyes smiling as he continued, ”If we do gather, I should be the one to arrange it.”

”Once my first-class merit is approved, the bonus will be substantial, and I’ll host a proper team gathering.”

Upon hearing this, Wan immediately grinned broadly, with a hint of teasing in his tone: ”Mr. Jiang, the bonus for a personal first-class merit is exactly ten thousand yuan.”

”This time you can’t back out, you must treat everyone to a good meal!”

Jiang An shook his head with a smile, his gaze sweeping over Wan and Qin Feng, responding, ”Of course.”

”But your third-class merit bonus of five thousand each shouldn’t be spent all at once, keep it for yourselves, be prudent.”

Just as he finished speaking, the slightly outdated internal desk phone suddenly rang on his desk.

Jiang An glanced down to see a familiar short number displayed on the screen.

He instinctively glanced at the clock on the wall—six o’clock sharp in the afternoon, the unit had long been off duty, most people were either heading to the cafeteria or already home.

Why would someone call at this time using the desk phone?

Almost instantly, a tense premonition flashed through Jiang An’s mind.

Having fought on the criminal investigation frontline for years, he had developed an almost instinctive alertness—receiving a unit desk phone call outside working hours often meant something urgent.

Especially calls from other departments or grassroots police stations, rarely bring good news.

Standing opposite, Wan and Qin Feng also sensed the subtle change in atmosphere; both simultaneously restrained their smiles, and the office fell silent.

Jiang An quickly picked up the receiver, his tone as calm as ever: ”Hello, good evening.”

A slightly urgent male voice came from the other end: ”Hello, is this Captain Jiang An?”

”This is Jiang An. May I ask who is this?”

”I’m Li Dong, the director of the East River Police Station.” The voice was formal and solemn.

Jiang An’s expression stiffened, immediately replying: ”Hello! Please go ahead.”

Li Dong’s voice was clear and urgent: ”Reporting an emergency situation to you, we received a citizen’s report that a male body was found in the downstream river channel of East River.”

”Preliminary investigation found traces where a motorcycle might have slid off the bank, we suspect the rider might have fallen into the river with the vehicle.”
