The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Sometimes I think, life never lacks a good stage; the key is whether you have the real ability to perform this act well.”

Zhang Chao nodded repeatedly, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the letter paper: ”The Director is absolutely right.”

”Look at this case, if someone else were to handle it, it might just go through the motions.”

”But Jiang An is different...”

His voice suddenly became excited, ”From case characterization to inferring time of death, to suspect profiling and first scene reconstruction, this letter might be brief, but every word carries significant weight!”

Li Jian couldn’t help interjecting: ”The most remarkable thing is the attitude change from Chuan City.”

”For Chuan City’s proud Criminal Investigation to write such a letter of thanks, Jiang An surely showed real skill this time.”

”Absolutely! This young man not only has strong professional skills, but his determination is rare.”

”I must say, this kind of young person is naturally fit to be a detective.”

A moment later, Li Jian smiled and said: ”Mr. Ma, the organization has decided to promote you to be the Director of the East District. It’s a good thing. But...”

He looked up, his gaze revealing reluctance: ”Honestly speaking, after working together for so many years, I truly hate to see you leave.”

Mr. Ma heard this, his lips slightly curled up: ”People aim higher.”

”Besides, East District is just an hour’s drive from here, we can gather anytime.”

”The security situation in East District has been severe these past two years, with drug cases having high incident rates. The organization sending me there is a sign of trust. I’ve already thought of a plan for rectification, and I hope for your support then.”

”Rest assured.”

Li Jian straightened his back: ”Always ready to follow Mr. Ma’s instructions.”

Mr. Ma nodded satisfactorily, then turned to Zhang Chao: ”Zhang Chao, I actually have another arrangement I’d like to discuss with you.”

He picked up his teacup and took a sip: ”The Public Security Brigade is missing a leader, the rank is half a level higher than your current one, would you consider it?”

Zhang Chao froze upon hearing, almost dropping the notebook in his hand.

He instinctively touched the stubble on his chin, smiling wryly: ”Mr. Ma, you know, I’ve been working in criminal investigations for almost twenty years.”

His gaze turned profound, as if lost in memories: ”Those days fighting alongside my brothers, those nights staying up late on stakeouts, and the joy after solving a case... Honestly, I can’t bear to leave the Investigation Team.”

Mr. Ma nodded thoughtfully: ”I understand your feelings. But...”

He shifted the conversation: ”How about having Jiang An take over as the Investigation Team Leader, what do you think?”

”Jiang An?”

Wang Jianjun’s eyes lit up, the wrinkles on his face relaxed: ”That would be great! This guy’s got ability and courage.”

”Honestly, the young people in the team all respect him.” As he spoke, he couldn’t help but laugh: ”If you had mentioned him taking over earlier, I wouldn’t have been torn at all!”

”With him charging ahead in the front, and me providing support from the back, this pairing couldn’t be more suitable!”

Mr. Ma closely observed Zhang Chao’s expression, confirming his sincerity, and finally showed a relieved smile.

”That’s settled then. You’ll be responsible for internal management, while he focuses on case investigation. I’m confident that our Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team will achieve even greater results this year.”

”Promise to accomplish the task!” Zhang Chao stood tall, replying loudly.

Mr. Ma glanced at his wristwatch and suddenly stood up: ”Time is about up.”

”Jiang An is coming back today, shall we go...”

The three exchanged smiles, and the atmosphere in the office immediately became lively.

Mr. Ma finally looked around the office, gently closing the door: ”Let’s go, let’s welcome back our ’detective’.”
