The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Jiang An’s gaze suddenly sharpened. He quickly walked to the clothesline and gently touched the basketball jersey with his fingers—the fabric was dry.

”You are lying!”

He turned and stared directly at Li Changhe, his voice low and powerful.

”Your son never went away for work; he’s living right here and recently wore these clothes.”

Hearing this, Wang Yang immediately understood, striding up to Li Changhe and demanding sternly, ”Tell the truth! Are you covering for your son?”

”No! Absolutely not!”

Li Changhe waved his hands in panic, beads of sweat appearing on his forehead. ”He’s been working along the coast, never... never came back...”

”Then how do you explain these clothes?”

Jiang An grabbed the sneakers and pointed to the fresh mud on the soles. ”The mud on these shoes is still wet. Did your sixty-year-old father wear them to play basketball?”

Faced with the irrefutable evidence, the faces of Li Changhe and his wife turned pale.

The old woman’s legs weakened, and she had to hold onto the wall to stay upright.

Li Changhe’s eyes wandered, and his lips trembled incessantly, clearly in a state of panic.

Wang Yang made a quick decision, turning to the police team and ordering, ”Everyone, attention! Conduct a full search of the house immediately! Be careful!”

Ten fully armed officers rushed into the house like arrows, tactical flashlights crisscrossed in the dim rooms.

”Check every corner!”

Warning shouts echoed in the narrow farmhouse.

Five minutes later, the officers returned one by one, empty-handed.

”Nothing found in the bedroom.”

”Kitchen checked, no one.”

”Attic searched as well...”

Listening to his colleagues’ reports, Wang Yang’s frown deepened.

He approached Li Changhe again, his voice carrying an undeniable authority, ”I’ll give you one more chance. Where is your son?”

”I... I really don’t know...”

Li Changhe’s voice was as faint as a mosquito’s. ”He’s working at a factory...”

Wang Yang sneered, ”Intransigence! Do you know what consequences you’ll face for harboring a criminal?”

”Perjury, obstructing justice, these charges are enough to put you in prison for the rest of your years!”

Suddenly, a thought flashed through Wang Yang’s mind, causing him to frown tightly.

He recalled that earlier, when Li Changhe’s wife went inside to fetch the keys, she took nearly five minutes indoors.

Such a long time, enough to do a lot of things.

Perhaps she alerted someone? Or worse, has his son already escaped?

Thinking of this, a cold sweat broke out on Wang Yang’s back.

He quickly pulled out his phone, his fingers sliding rapidly over the screen as he called the emergency contact numbers for the train station, the bus terminal, the high-speed rail station, and the airport.

In each call, he repeated in a rapid and clear tone, ”Be on the lookout for a suspect named Li Kui, about 175cm tall, wearing a black jacket, ID number is...”

After hanging up the last call, Wang Yang was about to interrogate Li Changhe again when his phone suddenly vibrated.

He glanced down to see it was a return call from the high-speed rail station, and his heart began to thud violently.

”Hello, Mr. Wang, this is the high-speed rail station police office.”

A hurried voice came over the phone, ”We found a passenger at the ticket checkpoint whose identity matches your description perfectly. He is currently waiting for train G237 in waiting room No. 3.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Yang’s pupils contracted sharply. He glanced at his watch—less than 20 minutes until departure!

”Alright, we’re on our way!”

He practically shouted the words.

After hanging up, Wang Yang quickly issued orders: ”Zhang, you’re in charge of taking this couple back to the station for further questioning.”

”Yong, come with me to the high-speed rail station immediately!”

His voice carried an undeniable sense of urgency.

The police car sped off with sirens blaring, Wang Yang’s fingers gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white.

”That kid is likely armed, and the waiting room is full of people...”

Zhou Yong nodded steadily, ”I’ve arranged it; the station police will meet us at the east entrance.”

”Additionally, I’ve had the station staff delay the train’s departure under the pretense of ticket checks.”

Twenty minutes later, the police car braked sharply to a stop at the south square of the high-speed rail station.

The three of them dashed into the station, darting through the green channel and straight to waiting room No. 3.

Wang Yang’s back was already soaked with sweat, but he paid no attention to it.

The waiting room was crowded, noisy announcements and the cries of children blending together.

He squinted, scanning the crowd rapidly. Suddenly, Zhou Yong nudged him lightly with his elbow, indicating with his eyes towards the right front—a young man wearing a black jacket was engrossed in his phone, oblivious to the commotion around him.

”Target confirmed.”

Wang Yang whispered, quickly laying out the action plan.

”Mr. Zhou, you lead a team to approach from the left; Liu, handle the right side; I’ll approach head-on.”

”Remember, prioritizing the safety of the public!”

With Wang Yang’s gesture, several plainclothes officers quietly dispersed into the crowd.

Wang Yang pretended to be a regular passenger, slowly moving towards the target. His gaze fixed on the phone in Li Kui’s hand—the screen displayed a shooting game.

Three meters, two meters, one meter... Wang Yang counted silently to himself.

Just half a meter away, he suddenly sprang forward, pinning Li Kui down onto the seat with a swift motion!

”What are you doing?!”

Li Kui struggled in terror, but Zhou Yong had already deftly secured his right wrist while another officer quickly restrained his left arm.

Wang Yang followed through with a hold, pressing his face against the seatback.

”Li Kui!”

Wang Yang shouted sternly, flashing his badge, ”We are from the Municipal Public Security Bureau!”
