The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

At this moment, Wang Yang noticed Jiang An wasn’t speaking and turned to ask with concern, ”Mr. Jiang, what’s wrong?”

”Are you feeling a bit of heatstroke or discomfort?”

Jiang An gently shook his head, his voice calm, ”No, I’m just contemplating some things.”

His gaze remained locked on Li Changhe.

Years of being a detective made Wang Yang instantly aware of something.

He lowered his voice and urged, ”Mr. Jiang, have you discovered something?”

”Or do you feel we’ve overlooked some details?”

Jiang An slowly put down his teacup, the tea lightly swaying in the cup. ”Mr. Wang,”

His voice was soft yet unusually firm, ”I suddenly have an idea, not sure if you think it’s suitable.”

”Go ahead,”

Wang Yang immediately sat up straight, ”If it can help solve the case, we’ll fully cooperate.”

Jiang An’s gaze turned toward the kitchen where Li Changhe was helping his wife prepare dinner.

He lowered his voice and said, ”I want to thoroughly search Li Changhe’s house again.”

Wang Yang was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, followed Jiang An’s gaze, and saw Li Changhe skillfully chopping vegetables in the kitchen, his movements nimble like a man not past his prime.

”Didn’t you and Zhang Yean already investigate?”

He frowned in puzzlement, ”Have you found something suspicious?”

Jiang An slightly nodded, his gaze thoughtfully sweeping through the yard, ”Indeed, initially we didn’t find any trace of vehicles in the yard, and the couple’s attitude seemed excessively enthusiastic. But just now...”

He paused, lowering his voice a bit more, ”I found a small section of fresh tire marks near the sink, the marks were clear, evidently recent. But oddly, there are no vehicles visible in the entire yard.”

As he spoke, he discreetly gestured toward the right, ”Look, the rolling shutter door at the 12 o’clock position has been closed since we arrived.”

”I observed that there are clear signs of friction under the door crack, indicating it’s been frequently opened and closed recently.”

Jiang An’s voice grew softer, the last few words almost squeezed out between his teeth, ”I suspect...”

Jiang An didn’t finish his sentence, Wang Yang followed the direction he was indicating.

Years of criminal investigation experience allowed him to instantly catch on to the anomaly.

In an instant, Wang Yang’s brow furrowed involuntarily, he instinctively touched the gun at his waist, his knuckles turning slightly white from the pressure.

After about thirty seconds of contemplation, he firmly nodded, ”You’re right, we can’t overlook any clues in the case.”

His voice was steady and strong, ”Since there are doubts, it must be clarified.”

”Let’s have Chen Biao and me check it out first.”

After speaking, Wang Yang heavily patted Chen Biao’s shoulder, who immediately stood up understandingly.

Chen Biao’s right hand remained in a guarded position, ready to respond to sudden situations at any moment.

Jiang An and Wan exchanged a glance and quickly followed suit.

The simultaneous movement of the four people caught the attention of Li Changhe, who was in the kitchen.

At this moment, Li Changhe was chopping vegetables in the kitchen, the sound of the knife hitting the cutting board was crisp and rhythmic.

Hearing the footsteps, he looked up to see the four people walking toward him, his hand’s movement noticeably paused.

Wang Yang stood at the kitchen door, raised his right hand to make a pause gesture, ”Mr. Li, could you come out for a moment?”

Li Changhe wiped his hands with his apron, ”Mr. Wang, is there something the matter?”

Wang Yang pointed directly at the suspicious rolling shutter door, ”Mr. Li, that rolling shutter door has been closed, is there something valuable inside?”

This sentence hit like a muffled thunder, rendering Li Changhe’s body noticeably stiff.

Jiang An noticed his Adam’s apple move up and down, beads of sweat dotting his forehead.

”What, what’s so valuable inside,”

Li Changhe gave a dry laugh, his laughter sounding especially abrupt in the quiet yard.

”It’s just... just a place to store clutter. Didn’t I invite you over today, thought it’d look tidier closed...”

”Storing clutter?”

Wang Yang slowly walked toward the rolling shutter door, the sound of his leather shoes resounding crisply on the cement ground.

”But I see the rest of the yard spotless, yet you pile clutter here specifically...”

He deliberately drew out his words, suddenly turning to stare at Li Changhe, ”Isn’t that illogical?”

Suddenly, Li Changhe’s wife Zhang Xiulan appeared, she quickly walked to her husband’s side, covertly tugging his clothes.

”Oh, Mr. Li, how can you be so clueless!”

Her laughter was excessively loud, ”It’s a blessing for us to have several officers visit our home!”

She turned to Wang Yang, her smile almost overflowing, ”Officer, take a look if you want to. I’ll go get the key.”

She spun around so quickly that she didn’t notice her apron string catching on the door handle.

Three minutes later, the sound of rummaging from inside the house was clearly audible.

”How strange... Mr. Li, where did you put the key? Could it be lost?”

Her voice came from inside, carrying a noticeable panic.

Wang Yang and Chen Biao exchanged a glance, and both simultaneously stepped forward.

The atmosphere in the yard instantly dropped to freezing point, their hands already resting on their sidearms as he felt his heart pounding like a drum.

What secret was hidden behind the rolling door?

This seemingly ordinary rural courtyard was now suffused with a suffocating tension...

Li Changhe turned his head and stole a slightly uneasy glance at his wife standing beside him, lowering his voice, ”Just in there... if you go and look, you’ll find it.”

His gaze flickered, his fingers unconsciously rubbing against the seam of his pants, as if trying to conceal his inner unease.

Two minutes later, when Li Changhe’s wife pulled open the rolling door with a clatter, all the officers present involuntarily gasped.

In this narrow storage room of less than 30 square meters, there was a jet-black luxury coupe parked, its low, streamlined body glistening with a cold sheen under the dim light.

Even more striking was the height of the car’s chassis, which astonishingly matched the impact marks on the trees at the crime scene.

Jiang An briskly stepped forward, his sharp gaze sweeping over the car like a searchlight.

He noticed, though the front of the vehicle had been meticulously repaired, showing almost no collision marks, he still caught some clues.

He crouched down, his fingertip gently stroking the seam between the bumper and the body.

”The repair craftsmanship is quite professional,” Jiang An said contemplatively, ”but the newly sprayed paint still reveals subtle differences under light refraction.”

Li Changhe awkwardly rubbed his hands and forced a smile, ”Well... is that enough now?”

”It’s just a regular car, what’s the big deal?”

Wang Yang gave him a meaningful look, ”Mr. Li, I’m afraid things aren’t that simple, right?”

”You specifically hid this car here, it’s not just because it’s ’ordinary’, is it?”

Moist beads of sweat appeared on Li Changhe’s forehead, his voice involuntarily rising by an octave, ”Mr. Wang, I really didn’t intend to hide anything!”

”It’s just that economic scrutiny has been particularly strict these past two years, and I’m timid, afraid of unnecessary trouble...”

Wang Yang patted his shoulder, his tone softened but his gaze remained sharp.

”As long as the origin is legal, we naturally won’t make things difficult for you.”

”However, we do need to conduct a thorough inspection of the car now.”

Jiang An picked up the conversation, ”We have professional surveying tools in the car.”

”This space isn’t large, but it’s enough for us to work.”

”Mr. Li, could you please give us the car keys?”

”Inspection?”

Li Changhe suddenly became agitated, ”My car’s parked here just fine, on what grounds do you need to inspect it?”

His wife hastily interjected upon seeing this, ”Mr. Li! It’s not easy for the officers to handle cases, we should cooperate.”

She quickly went inside and brought out the keys, ”Please go ahead, let us know if you need anything.”

Li Changhe still muttered unwillingly, ”What if it gets dirty? I just had the car thoroughly washed...”

”Don’t worry,”

Jiang An put on white gloves and skillfully took the keys, ”We’ll use professional protection measures throughout.”

After opening the car door, the criminal investigation team began a meticulous investigation.

Jiang An was responsible for the front of the car, taking out a high-powered flashlight to inspect every corner of the bumper inch by inch.

Under the light from specific angles, the paint on the newly replaced bumper became increasingly noticeable in its color difference compared to the original car body.

”Here!”

Jiang An pointed at a barely noticeable dent on the inside of the bumper.

”Although it has undergone shaping repair, the stress deformation marks inside the metal are still there.”

Chen Biao squatted beside him, observing the inner side of the hubcap with a magnifying glass, ”The tires also show signs of replacement, and moreover...”

He leaned closer and sniffed, ”There’s a special cleaning agent smell, not like the one used in regular car washes.”

Meanwhile, Zhang Yean was examining the driver’s seat.

She frowned and said, ”It’s too clean, clean enough to be abnormal.”

He donned evidence gloves and gently pulled the door handle, ”There aren’t even the most common fingerprints as if they’ve been deliberately wiped.”
