The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 251: Chapter 169: Three Key Lines of Inquiry

”Then, the two corpses wouldn’t have been on the transport vehicle for more than 40 minutes.”

”Therefore, we can deduce that the two bodies haven’t been lying flat for more than 40 minutes after changing position.”

In a deep voice, Jiang An said, ”It’s impossible for large areas of livor mortis to form on the back within just 40 minutes.”

”Although the position can lead to livor mortis on the back, time does not permit it!”

”Otherwise, the forensic textbooks in Dragon Country regarding livor mortis would need to be revised!”

After a moment of thought, Li Hongbing asked in a deep voice, ”If the livor mortis on the back wasn’t formed during the transport, where was it formed?”

Immediately, Jiang An confidently said, ”At the death scene!”

”Formed at the scene?”

”Weren’t they in a supine position at the scene?”

”Am I nearsighted?”

...

Instantly, the people in the venue started whispering among themselves again.

Some whispered, ”Isn’t this talking nonsense with your eyes wide open?”

”Even though you’re a forensic expert, you shouldn’t just say whatever.”

”At the scene, one of the victims was face down, the other was lying on their side, how could there be livor mortis on their backs?”

Gradually, the discussion within the entire venue became louder.

The good image just established for Jiang An suddenly shattered quite a bit.

At this moment, Li Hongbing saw people discussing various things, then turned to glance at Jiang An.

He raised his hand and waved, saying, ”Please quiet down a bit, everybody.”

”Since ancient times, every profession has its own specialty; forensic science is profound and extensive.”

”We are not forensic experts; for professional issues in the forensic field, we’d better let the professionals explain.”

”Now, let’s invite Mr. Jiang to explain in detail.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang An spoke in a deep voice, ”I know some people think I’m imagining things.”

”But, what I want to say is, this is precisely what’s most bewildering about this case.”

”When the two victims were found at the death scene, they were all dressed, which covered the livor mortis on their backs.”

”So, regarding whether there’s livor mortis on the victims’ backs at the first scene, we have no way to know.”

”However, we can infer!”

”During the transport of the corpses from the scene to the forensic examination room, it’s impossible for livor mortis to form on the back, so this livor mortis must have formed at the scene.”

At this point, Mr. Zhao asked, ”Mr. Jiang, when we arrived at the crime scene, we clearly saw that the positions of the two victims weren’t back-down.”

In a firm voice, Jiang An said, ”We saw that the two victims weren’t in a supine position.”

”But, that doesn’t mean the victims weren’t in a supine position after death!”

”What do you mean?”

Mr. Zhao asked without thinking.

”I mean, we can’t rule out the possibility that the bodies of the two victims were turned by someone after death!”

Boom!

The venue boiled again.

Position change?

Turned by someone?

How likely is this?

In rural areas, there’s still quite a taboo against handling corpses.

Who would turn the bodies?

Moreover, one of the elderly female victims’ bodies was turned 180 degrees.

Slightly organising his thoughts, Jiang An said, ”The livor mortis on the backs of the two victims fused into patches, with a deep colour; I personally think they were lying flat for up to 6 hours after death.”

Mr. Zhao asked, ”Why more than 6 hours?”

”Because livor mortis formed within 6 hours would disappear if the position changes.”

”But, despite the position change on these two bodies, the livor mortis on the back didn’t disappear.”

”Therefore, I deduce the livor mortis formation exceeded 6 hours.”

Listening to Jiang An’s thorough analysis, with such a firm tone,

Mr. Zhao quickly gave a thumbs up, ”Really professional!”

Just then, Li Hongbing’s phone rang.

He glanced at the caller ID and hurriedly took his phone out.

”Mr. Liu!”

Once the call was connected, Mr. Liu’s tone wasn’t very good.

”Is there any progress on the elderly couple’s death case?”

Through the radio waves, Li Hongbing sensed something wasn’t right.

”Mr. Liu, we are racing against time to investigate! There’s not much progress at the moment.”

After a brief pause, Mr. Liu said on the phone, ”I heard you’ve invited a criminal investigation expert from Jiangcheng to guide the work?”

”That’s correct! Mr. Liu, I was about to report this to you!”

”I heard it’s a young rookie?”

Li Jian smiled and said, ”Mr. Liu, age doesn’t matter.”

”Criminal investigation is about the ability to solve cases; age doesn’t necessarily correlate with better skills.”

Then, Mr. Liu said sternly, ”I don’t want to argue about criminal investigation with you.”

”Police work values experience, yet you find a clueless kid to guide us in the case?”

”If word gets out, how will Han City police team stand in Dragon Country?”

”Are you suggesting our Han City police are all useless?”

”You might not care, but I do!”

”How will I participate in Dragon Country’s police commissioners’ meetings?”

With such a reprimand, Li Hong bing was left speechless.

He quickly said, ”Mr. Liu, please calm down.”

”I’m also hoping to solve the case as soon as possible.”

”After all, the longer any case drags on, the more clues will be lost.”

After a moment, Mr. Liu said, ”I understand your eagerness to solve the case, but it requires methodology and can’t be done blindly.”

”What kind of support can a newcomer provide in solving the case?”

”Also, you ask a young person to command veteran detectives in Han City, do you think this is appropriate?”

Li Jian gathered his thoughts for a long time, then said, ”Mr. Liu, please rest assured! We specifically chose Jiang An from Jiangcheng because of thorough comparison and selection; Jiang An’s ability to solve cases is evident.”

There was a long silence on the other end, after which Mr. Liu sighed and said, ”Alright! I won’t argue with you.”

”I only want results.”

”As for who you find to solve cases and how, I can overlook it.”

”But, don’t let the attempt to hurry end up delaying the rice.”

”If you find a newcomer to assist in solving cases and not only fail to crack them but also damage our Han City police’s stellar reputation, it would be unfortunate.”

After speaking, Mr. Liu quickly hung up the phone.

Li Hong bing stood in the hallway, holding his phone in a daze.

He recalled the three key points mentioned by Jiang An earlier.

After a long time, he suddenly felt Jiang An’s analysis made a lot of sense.

There was indeed neglect by Han City detectives in the earlier phase regarding these three key points.

Especially the livor mortis on the backs of the two victims.

If the livor mortis on their backs was really formed at the death scene, who then moved the bodies?

And why would someone move them 6 hours after the incident?

At this moment, many in the conference room started to glance around and discuss.

Zhang Yean also turned and said, ”Junior, your analysis of the livor mortis on the victims spans too far, even I find it hard to accept.”

Wan nodded and said, ”Apart from the perpetrator, who else would enter the crime scene?”

”Shouldn’t you consider any special ways livor mortis might form?”

Jiang An looked around and confidently said, ”I believe in my judgment!”

Ten minutes later, Li Hongbing pushed open the door and walked into the conference room.

He returned to his seat, ”Quiet down, everyone!”

”What Mr. Jiang proposed earlier, the three aspects, are excellent and very worthy of our focus.”

”Next, everyone should delve deeper along these three aspects, see if there’s significant negligence and inadequacies in our earlier work in site inspection, autopsy, and investigation.”

”It’s never too late to mend the pen after losing the sheep.”

”Although the investigation of this case has been going on for a month and a half, I believe the truth is only delayed and will never be absent.”

”However! The extent of delay is up to all of us present here.”

”Therefore, I urge all comrades present to be fully committed to the case investigation.”

”At the same time, we must pay high attention to Mr. Jiang’s arrangements and actively execute them.”

”Yes!”

Everyone said in unison.

Then, Li Hong bing turned and said, ”Mr. Jiang, is there a need for further discussion?”

Jiang An replied, ”Today is merely a preliminary understanding of the case; let’s pause here for now.”

He glanced at the thick dossier, ”The records are detailed, I’ll slowly go through them later.”

”Mr. Jiang, then we’ll rely on you!”

Jiang An said, ”We’re now comrades in the same trench; you’re working harder than I am.”

”But, I have a work suggestion!”

”Please go ahead?”

”I want to revisit the death scene to see if there are any clues left.”

”No problem! I’ll arrange it immediately, we’ll leave right away.”
