Chapter 284: Chapter 183: One Case, Two Perspectives? (Part 2)

He knocked on the car window and said, ”Excuse me, are you Officer Jiang An from Jiangcheng?”

Jiang An in the passenger seat nodded.

”I am Jiang An!”

Immediately, Jiang An opened the car door and got out.

”Hello, Officer Jiang! I am Sun Yiming from the Criminal Investigation Team.”

”Hello! Nice to meet you!”

”Mr. Zhang arranged for me to wait for you here. He’s already in the office!”

”Thank you!”

”Please!”

Five minutes later, Jiang An, Zhang Yean, and Wan, led by Sun Yiming, arrived at the team leader’s office door via elevator.

”Knock, knock, knock.”

Sun Yiming raised his hand and knocked on the door.

”Come in!”

Immediately, the four of them walked in.

Sun Yiming reported, ”Mr. Zhang, this is Officer Jiang An.”

Zhang Feng looked up and glanced at Jiang An.

Then, he immediately stood up and walked over.

”Officer Jiang An, thank you for your hard work!”

”You just solved a criminal case in Han City and came to the Criminal Investigation Team without stopping to assist with a case.”

Jiang An replied, ”Team Leader, it was not hard! I appreciate you giving me the chance to learn and train.”

”Having the opportunity to follow you in handling a case is a great honor for me; my heart is filled with excitement.”

Zhang Feng looked Jiang An up and down, feeling very satisfied.

”Truly a promising talent, a great detective prospect!”

”I’ve heard about the case you solved in Han City, brilliantly done, and with very clear thinking.”

Then, Zhang Feng turned to look at Zhang Yean and Wan.

Jiang An quickly introduced, ”They are both my colleagues.”

”This is Zhang Yean, a backbone in trace examination and identification.”

”Hello, Mr. Zhang!”

”This is Wan Junjie, a key figure in criminal investigation and case handling.”

”Hello, Mr. Zhang!”

Zhang Feng shook hands with each of them, ”Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation indeed produces talents, young people are so outstanding, I think Mr. Li can go back to fishing now!”

After some pleasantries, Zhang Feng turned and said, ”Come, let’s sit down and talk.”

At this time, Sun Yiming had already brought over a thick case file and meeting notes.

After the four sat down, Zhang Feng frowned slightly, his expression turning serious.

He glanced at the case file on the coffee table and said solemnly, ”This case happened in the local suburb, and it has been three months!”

”Initially, the investigation department thought it was a traffic accident case, but they couldn’t find the vehicle involved!”

”Later, the case was reported to the team, and after consultation and research, some suggested it was a high fall death case!”

”Now, after multiple rounds of research, two opinions have emerged.”

”One is a high fall death, and the other is traffic accident death.”

After a slight pause, Zhang Feng said, ”So, we want to invite you today to hear your opinions.”

Jiang An nodded and opened the case file.

At this time, Mr. Zhang turned and said, ”Yiming, give them an overview of the case basics.”

”Mr. Zhang, yes!”

Immediately, Sun Yiming began, ”The deceased is named Li Lan, female, 20 years old, found lying in the middle of the road with no vital signs by a passing driver.”

”There are abandoned factory office buildings on both sides of where the body was found.”

”According to the investigation, Li Lan was a junior at Yangcheng Vocational Technical College. The night before her death, she went shopping with a close friend and took a taxi to the suburb.”

”The crime scene is an abandoned mining area, with no surveillance, making it impossible to track the final activity trail.”

”Currently, after various investigations, the nature of the case’s death cannot be determined.”

”As Mr. Zhang just said, there are currently two viewpoints.”

”One is death by traffic accident, arguing that the deceased was found in the middle of the road, having the objective conditions for traffic accident death.”

”Furthermore, the deceased has large-scale abrasions and dust on her body, which are key characteristics of a traffic accident.”

”The other viewpoint is death by high fall, reasoning that the position of the deceased is flanked by abandoned office buildings, having conditions for high fall death.”

”Moreover, forensic autopsy results show evidence of the violent impact characteristic of high fall death.”

...

During Sun Yiming’s presentation, Jiang An was continuously flipping through the case file.

He listened and read the case file at the same time.

On the original scene investigation photos and autopsy photos, Jiang An observed very carefully.

All of Sun Yiming’s previous statements were others’ conclusions.

For the scene and the body, he wanted to do his own analysis and summary.

Just like any other case before, the crime scene and autopsy are the most objective materials and the essential source of all evidence and clues.

Jiang An was deeply contemplating, noticing that the place where the body was found was in the center of the road, indeed fitting the conditions for a traffic accident.

However, Jiang An noticed a particular autopsy photo in the case file.

He observed carefully and found no obvious signs of impact from a traffic accident.

In terms of typical traffic accident damage, it indeed did not fit.

However, the large-area abrasions and dust adhesions on the deceased’s back somewhat matched traffic accident characteristics.

Then, Jiang An asked, ”Was there a toxicology test done on the body?”

Sun Yiming nodded and said, ”A toxicology test was done, but no toxins were found in the deceased’s body, only a small amount of alcohol components.”

”Alcohol?”

Sun Yiming replied, ”Early investigation showed that the deceased Li Lan drank a little at a bar with her close friend while shopping that night.”

”What was the concentration?”

”Just over 80, barely exceeding the drink-driving concentration standard.”

Mr. Zhang also said, ”The task force specially investigated the final activity trail, with no evidence found of a second round of drinking.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An nodded lightly.

Next, he focused his gaze on the crime scene’s first photos.

A long-haired woman lay face up in the middle of the road, motionless.

There was a lot of dust attached to her jeans and T-shirt.

”How far is the body from the walls on each side?”

Sun Yiming looked down and flipped through a notebook, ”The vertical distance from the body to the right office building is 28 meters, and to the left office building is 35 meters.”

”What about the monitoring on this road?”

”The factory area’s closure has caused the surveillance to be damaged.”

”What about the monitoring at both ends of the road?”

”We’ve retrieved the monitoring at both ends of the road. There are many forks, and after long-distance sorting, no suspicious vehicles were found.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An nodded.

Then, Jiang An slightly squinted his eyes, integrating all the photos and information into his mind.

”Scene, body, monitoring, office buildings......”

At that moment, he sorted and combined all the information in his mind, exploring the essential logic.

Since this case has been reported to the Criminal Investigation Team, it fully indicates that the case is particularly complex.

Death by traffic accident, death by high fall...

After a while, having thought carefully, Jiang An suddenly felt that both possibilities existed and were somewhat reasonable.

Zhang Feng saw Jiang An close the case file and asked solemnly, ”Do you have any initial thoughts?”

Instantly, all eyes turned to Jiang An.

Jiang An replied, ”Mr. Zhang, I have not fully reviewed the case file, and I don’t have my conclusions yet.”

”However, after hearing the case introduction and seeing some of the picture materials, my immediate sense is that the case is very complex.”

”There are currently two perspectives, whether it’s death by high fall or traffic accident, both make some sense.”

Zhang Feng looked at Jiang An.

”From your personal perspective, which viewpoint do you lean towards?”

After thinking for a while, Jiang An said solemnly, ”I don’t lean towards either viewpoint!”

Instantly, Zhang Feng’s mouth twitched slightly, ”Do you have a third viewpoint?”
