Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1129: Chapter 1129: Really Want to Slap Him Twice

”It’s fine, it’s fine!” Qin Fen waved his hands repeatedly, ”I need a few people to help me load the truck.”

Those who were free went over to help load the truck while An Hao watched from a distance.

During the loading, Qin Fen seemed very enthusiastic, opting to carry the dirty, heavy crates himself and leaving the lighter ones for others.

He appeared to be quite considerate of others’ needs.

But An Hao knew that Qin Fen wasn’t at all like the image he was presenting.

If he truly was like that, why would he shamelessly come to work in the vegetable garden?

If he had been so serious and hardworking, would he have given up working outside after just two years, never wanting to leave again?

Would it have come to the point where he didn’t bring back a single penny for his family?

You could tell a person’s character from the details, and this was certainly no exception.

Once the cart was loaded, Qin Fen followed the driver heading toward the town with the ox cart.

An Hao called An Ping over: ”Find a way to follow them, and secretly observe how he delivers vegetables to the army. But don’t let him spot you.”

An Ping agreed.

An Ping rushed home to quickly change his clothes, donned a hat and sunglasses that covered half his face, and at a glance, it was really hard to recognize him,

He rode his bicycle swiftly towards the town.

Arriving in town, he found a place to lock his bicycle.

Then he waited for the bus to arrive.

After waiting for a while, the bus finally arrived.

An Ping boarded first and squeezed his way to the back of the bus.

The bus was nearly full except for a seat near the front that had been deliberately left vacant.

Since he regularly delivered vegetables to the city, An Ping had arrangements with the bus driver and conductor.

They would stop at this location every day, waiting for ten minutes. If someone came to load vegetables onto the bus, they would do so; if no one came, the bus would simply continue on its way.

The fare from this location to the city was one yuan, but when delivering vegetables—including the price for the person and the vegetables—An Ping paid a total of five yuan per trip.

He waited on the bus for ten minutes, and just as the bus was about to leave, the vegetable crates managed by Qin Fen arrived.

The conductor got off the bus to help with the vegetables, and after the driver closed the vehicle’s door, Qin Fen handed over five yuan to the conductor.

”Delivering vegetables again today?” People who often took this bus knew the situation and would occasionally poke their heads in to ask him a question.

”Yes!” Qin Fen replied.

”The vegetables look pretty fresh.” An old lady peeked over and glanced at the tomatoes in the crate, ”Are those from the greenhouse? Are they expensive?”

Qin Fen quoted a price offhandedly.

Upon hearing it, the old lady said, ”The vegetables are quite cheap. You don’t know how expensive the vegetables in the city have become nowadays.”

”That’s right! Our vegetable garden provides quality assurance,” Qin Fen didn’t forget to advertise.

”I often think about visiting my daughter. I was worrying about what to buy for her. Here’s an idea, young man, sell me some vegetables.” They were fresh and good, saving her the hassle of wandering around the city looking for stuff.

”These vegetables are designated for delivery to the city! You can have some, but not too much, as they are usually pre-weighed for others,” Qin Fen said.

”Sure, sure!” the old lady agreed cheerfully.

So, she picked and chose some vegetables from the crate, spending five yuan on them.

When the old lady handed the vegetables to Qin Fen, he stashed the money directly into his pocket as if it were his.

An Ping was fuming inside, practically wishing he could rush up and slap Qin Fen twice.

But he held himself back.

He was on a mission, and now that the vegetables were short, he wanted to see how Qin Fen would make up for the shortfall when they reached the army base.
