Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1108: Chapter 1108: Just This One Time

”You think she won’t get suspicious if you guys keep skipping dinner at home for several days in a row?” That kid is too naive; An Hao had been suspicious for a while now.

If it weren’t for him covering for you, you wouldn’t have lasted a day.

”So... we just go have a meal?”

”Alright,” Liu Xiaolian felt it was indeed time to go, ”After all, we said we came to visit Sister An Hao and also to scout the market. We haven’t even shown our faces with any money in front of Sister An Hao; if we don’t go every day, Sister An Hao might start getting ideas.”

”That makes sense. Let’s go then,” An Ping agreed.

”We need to get our story straight. Can’t let her see through us.”

Three rascals whispered a conspiracy behind, while Qin Jian strode ahead.

Hearing their ridiculous thoughts, Qin Jian couldn’t help but curl the corner of his mouth.

An Hao had grown suspicious of them long ago; tonight, whether they live or die wasn’t up to him anymore.

He had provided all the cover he could; if An Hao really found out, he could only apologize to his brother-in-law then.

The three guys got their story straight and hurried after Qin Jian.

”Brother-in-law, we should still buy something. Even if not for my sister, we absolutely need to get some nutritional stuff for Uncle Ning,” An Ping felt somewhat embarrassed for having imposed for several days.

Showing up empty-handed on the first day was a bit improper to begin with.

If they were to leave just as empty-handed, it would truly be irresponsible.

”I’ll convey your regards. There’s really no need to buy those things! We have plenty at home, so let’s not waste money unnecessarily. Spend this time thinking about how you’ll deal with your sister tonight instead,” Qin Jian said.

”Brother-in-law! That’s solid of you! I knew I wasn’t wrong about you,” An Ping went up and clapped him on the shoulder.

Qin Jian disdainfully shook off his hand: ”This is the first and last time I’m helping you hide this. If something like this happens again, don’t you dare say you’re my brother-in-law.”

”Hehe!” An Ping touched his nose and chuckled awkwardly, ”It was just an accident, right? There won’t be a next time! But if there is, brother-in-law, you’re so kind, I think you definitely won’t refuse to help me, right?”

Qin Jian glanced at him sidelong: ”I really won’t help you next time! Mark my words!”

An Ping: ”...”

Fuck! Brother-in-law, that’s really mean of you!

Forgot who helped you chase my sister back then?

When Qin Jian turned and caught An Ping’s expression, he raised an eyebrow too.

Their glances silently communicated.

You dare say, that was because I got my arm injured trying to save you, and you felt indebted!

An Ping: ”...” Fuck! Brother-in-law, I give up!

Qin Jian: Good that you admit defeat.

When Qin Jian and An Ping arrived home, An Hao was busy in the kitchen.

There was a strong smell of cooking fumes in the house, making her heave repeatedly.

”Honey, why are you the one cooking?” Qin Jian took off his military uniform and headed straight for the kitchen.

”Dad and mom went out! One of dad’s old comrades came and is hosting at Friendship Restaurant,” An Hao covered her nose and waved her spatula, struggling with the meat and vegetables in the pot.

She used to think cooking was enjoyable; now, she felt it was torture.

”Honey, go rest. I’ll handle the rest!” Qin Jian unhooked the apron from An Hao’s waist, tied it around his own, rolled up his sleeves, and took up the spatula to continue cooking.

”Are you sure?” Remembering the soup disaster from New Year’s Day, An Hao felt unconfident in Qin Jian’s cooking skills.
