Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1107: Chapter 1107: Investigate This Person

”Where is he?” Guan Qing asked with a frown.

”He’s at his home at the entrance of Bei Nong Hutong.”

”Let’s go! Take me to see him!” Guan Qing said as she stood up, wrapped her red coat around herself, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door.

Half an hour later.

Guan Qing arrived at Wang Jiu’s place.

As soon as she entered his courtyard, she smelled a strong scent of alcohol.

Guan Qing scrunched up her nose in disgust and strode into his house, head held high.

Wang Jiu had just finished breakfast, sorghum liquor with chicken feet, savoring every bite.

”Drunk so early in the morning? You seem to be living quite the life,” Guan Qing commented, lips curled as she looked at Wang Jiu.

”Miss Guan! Could you not scorn me, please? I’m barely making ends meet.” Otherwise, who would want to start their day chewing on chicken feet.

What one really needed was an entire chicken.

”You don’t want the money I’m offering you? I think you like gnawing on chicken feet,” Guan Qing said, her arms crossed as she stood at the door, looking down at him.

Having heard that, Wang Jiu burst into laughter, ”Actually, what I wish for is for the official’s daughter to support me long-term.”

”Ha!” Guan Qing scoffed, ”Then you would need to give me a reason. Do you have talent, or are you just good-looking?”

”Neither. That’s why I have to work so hard to feed myself every day!”

”As long as you understand! I won’t shortchange you this time,” Guan Qing said as she took out two thousand yuan from her bag and slapped it onto the table in front of Wang Jiu.

Seeing all that cash, Wang Jiu’s eyes widened. He quickly wiped the grease from his hands onto his clothes and began counting the bills.

”This isn’t for a hit, is it?”

”Of course not! When have I ever asked you to do something like that?”

”That’s good then! I would like to keep this sorry life of mine for a few more days!” said Wang Jiu.

”Stop counting! When have I ever shorted you? This is just two-thirds of what I’m paying you. I’ll pay the remaining third in cash once the job is done.”

”Awesome!” Wang Jiu gave her a thumbs-up, ”I love working with people like you. Tell me, what do you want me to do?”

Guan Qing took out a piece of paper with a name written on it from her bag, ”Investigate this person and all their surrounding relations! Report back to me once it’s done! I’ll tell you what to do next! Once the job is complete, I’ll give you the remaining thousand yuan.”

”This is awesome. I’ll take the job.” As long as the money was good, it was worth the risk for Wang Jiu.

At worst, he’d just end up in jail for a few more days.

”I’ll await your news!” Having said that, Guan Qing left.

An Ping had been receiving education for five or six days, coming and going early and late, and didn’t dare to go back and face An Hao when he returned to the military district’s compound.

He had claimed to be surveying the market, yet hadn’t visited it for a single day, afraid that An Hao would find out and scold him harshly.

A week passed by in the blink of an eye, and on the last day of their education, Qin Jian was set to take them to the Public Security Bureau.

”Brother-in-law, we’re leaving tomorrow! I came to visit my sister but didn’t bring anything and ended up causing you so much trouble,” said An Ping, feeling guilty, ”How about we take advantage of the early hour and you show me around so I can buy something for my sister?”

”No need to buy anything! Let’s just have a meal together when I get back today,” said Qin Jian.

”Have a meal?” An Ping hesitated, ”Let’s forget about it for now! We can eat some other time. After all, we’ve been on edge for the past four or five days, and it’s just one more night. What if my sister finds out? Wouldn’t that cause trouble?”
