Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 548: Chapter 548: Trouble Caused by Watermelon Rinds

The next day, Qin Jian brought back some good news.

There was a house available in the family quarters, so they wouldn’t have to stay in the dorm anymore; moving to the family quarters would be more convenient.

It would be ready by tomorrow, and after tidying up, they could move in.

Hearing this news, An Hao was in high spirits, finally able to rid herself of the awkwardness of the dorm.

Otherwise, she had to shower at specific times, or else it would be the male soldiers’ turn.

Using the toilet was also very awkward.

After lunch, An Hao and Gu Shuangshuang went for a walk outside the military camp.

Not far from the troops, there was a vendor selling watermelons. An Hao and Gu Shuangshuang approached and saw several military wives gathered around buying melons.

”An Hao, you’re here to buy melons too?” Mei Ying, who was tasting a watermelon, handed her a small piece. ”Try this, it’s both sandy and sweet.”

”Thank you, sister-in-law.” An Hao broke it in half and gave Gu Shuangshuang a piece.

An Hao bit into the watermelon, finding it indeed delicious, and she too went up to buy a big one.

Feng Chunhua bought two small watermelons; her son loved them, and she did too, so she simply bought an extra one.

Just as she was taking out her money, she accidentally dropped fifty cents. As she bent down to pick it up, she saw An Hao’s slender legs.

The scene of Yang Dahe staring at An Hao’s feet instantly came to mind, and unease filled her heart. Then she casually picked up a piece of watermelon rind and threw it under An Hao’s feet.

An Hao, having bought the watermelon, was walking back with Gu Shuangshuang when the watermelon rind was thrown precisely under her feet.

As she stepped forward, she happened to tread on a seed, and with a slippery noise, she fell to the ground. The watermelon was smashed to pieces, and her ankle twisted, quickly swelling up.

”Oh dear, An Hao, can’t you watch where you’re walking? I toss a rind, and you just walk right into it!” Feng Chunhua laughed loudly at An Hao’s disheveled appearance, thinking to herself, ’that’ll take you down a peg!’

A twisted ankle, let’s see what shoes you can wear now!

An Hao was so angry she trembled all over and, with Gu Shuangshuang’s assistance, stood up.

”I’ve got to give that unreasonable old woman a beating today!” Gu Shuangshuang clenched her fists, ready to hit Feng Chunhua, but An Hao grabbed her.

”Don’t! Don’t go!”

”An Hao, you’re just going to let her bully you like this!” Gu Shuangshuang shouted.

”Don’t go, if we go now, we’ll be the ones without reason. Even if we want to pick a fight, we can’t do it like this,” An Hao’s anger reached its peak.

Upon turning her head, Gu Shuangshuang saw several military wives coming towards An Hao.

Thinking about it, she decided to suppress her anger for now.

She would settle both old and new scores together! This time she wouldn’t indulge her any longer.

”Are you all right?” Mei Ying came up to help her.

”Oh my, your foot is swelling,” Zhang Guifang exclaimed.

”Chunhua, you need to watch where you’re throwing watermelon rinds.” Among them, only Mei Ying dared to call her out directly.

”I didn’t do it on purpose. An Hao, you’re not mad, right?”

”Not at all.” An Hao suppressed the anger in her heart and said with a smile, ”It’s my fault for not seeing the rind. I don’t blame you.”

”That’s good. Just be more careful in the future,” Feng Chunhua said smugly, taking advantage of the situation.

Back in the dorm, Gu Shuangshuang paced back and forth angrily. ”An Hao, I can’t believe her! Among all the military wives, she’s the only unreasonable one.”

”We’ll deal with it in a couple of days. People like her have to be dealt with,” An Hao said through clenched teeth.

Gu Shuangshuang couldn’t wait any longer; she had decided to make Feng Chunhua taste what it was like to be dealt with, today itself.
