Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 477: Chapter 477 Croton Powder

The woman was startled, nearly dropping the paper-wrapped package into the pot. Qin Fen snatched the package, clenching it in his palm.

”What’s this? Who are you to be covering your face in broad daylight?” Qin Fen said as he stretched out his hand and yanked down the thick scarf that was covering her face.

Seeing the other person, Qin Fen was somewhat taken aback, ”You are... Song Yueqin?”

”Qin Fen!” Song Yueqin recognized Qin Fen at a glance as well.

Yes, he had seen Qin Fen’s picture in a frame on the wall when he once visited the Qin Family. From afar, he was hesitant to identify the person.

After getting closer, she dared to be sure of it.

Now, this was bad! She had come to cause trouble, but she had been caught red-handed by Qin Jian’s brother, Qin Fen. She was in for it now.

At this moment, Qin Fen’s gaze was entirely captivated by Song Yueqin, ”You still remember me? You really do remember me!”

”What?” Song Yueqin frowned.

”Have you forgotten? Five years ago, I climbed up your pear tree to steal some pears, and you caught me. You scolded me but ended up picking two pears for me to eat.” Qin Fen had always remembered that.

Afterwards, when he went out to work, in the first year he even went out of his way to leave a present at her doorstep. Seeing her puzzled expression, Qin Fen’s mood was lifted for several days.

He was rather grateful to Song Yueqin in his heart for that incident.

”Oh, so it was you!” Song Yueqin vaguely remembered.

So the boy who climbed trees back then turned out to be Qin Fen. No wonder he looked familiar in the photos; they had such a history together.

Now, things were looking up. Song Yueqin, who had been frantically worrying just a moment ago, felt a wave of calmness wash over her.

Since she had a small favor to call upon, she could plead with him to let her off the hook today.

Song Yueqin was thinking about how to begin talking to Qin Fen when he unfolded his hand and asked her, ”What’s in this package? Why were you pouring it into the big pot?”

”Uh... well...” Song Yueqin stuttered. People were coming out one after another to get their second bowl of rice, and she feared being discovered. If found out, An Hao would definitely not let her off the hook.

As she was panicking and afraid, Qin Fen dragged her to a secluded spot.

Finally, Song Yueqin’s tenseness settled down, but she couldn’t bring herself to speak in front of Qin Fen; she was holding a packet of croton powder.

She just couldn’t stand An Hao!

From the moment she got married to her homecoming, she had become the center of attention in the village.

In just over a year, she had transformed from a poor, dusty, firewood-fetching girl to an object of envy.

She had married a staff officer, and on top of that, she was the daughter-in-law of the Commander in the military region. These two identities had given her plenty of prominence in the village.

On the contrary, she herself had fallen a great deal!

Failing the college entrance exam and returning to the village to farm, she was the same age as An Hao and no less attractive, yet to this day, no one had approached her family to propose.

At her age, she was becoming an old maid in the village!

Why was this, all because of An Hao!

She had ruined everything for her!

Now that she had nothing, she hated her! She hated her so much that she couldn’t sleep or eat, yet she was helpless to do anything!

A few days ago, there was a quarrel between her family and a neighbor, and the neighbor fed some croton to their cow. Thankfully, it was discovered early, and the cow didn’t eat much.

She picked the croton out of the cow trough and thus came up with the idea for when An Hao was returning to her parents’ home. She decided to grind the croton seeds into powder and slip it into the big rice pot.

It wouldn’t kill anyone, but it would be enough to give An Hao a hard time!
