CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 760: Chapter 768: Just Calm

”She’s gone?” Jane Sampson asked, dumbfounded as she looked around the empty study. ”When did she leave without even saying goodbye?”

Jane Sampson stayed in the study for two minutes. Since James Black wasn’t there and she was bored being alone, she followed suit and left the study too.

After leaving the study, she first went to the bedroom to look for him, and only after not finding James Black, she went downstairs. In the end, it was by the swimming pool in the courtyard where she found him.

Jane Sampson peeked out from under a tree several times. James Black clearly saw her, but he didn’t even give her an extra glance.

Jane Sampson hesitated for a while before taking small, shuffling steps to James Black’s back. She reached out and poked his shoulder and asked in a quiet voice, ”What are you doing standing here? Don’t you find it hot?”

James Black did answer Jane Sampson.

He said, ”Just trying to cool down.”

Otherwise, if he had stayed in the study just now, he might not have been able to hold back and could have ended up wanting to give her a piece of his mind.

”Then you keep standing here to cool down,” Jane Sampson muttered with pursed lips, and she turned to scamper back into the house.

Rock Bell left Jane Sampson with two scripts when he departed. Although Jane Sampson had already decided to follow Rock Bell’s suggestion and choose the palace drama, she still took the other script with interest and flipped through it.

Honestly, the script for the spy drama seemed quite good to Jane Sampson at first glance; it certainly wasn’t like many of the TV series shot these days, which garnered heaps of criticism before even two episodes had aired.

Things like hand-tear devils or a single bullet hitting an enemy eight hundred miles away, or picking up a stone and throwing it into the air to bring down an enemy helicopter.

When Jane Sampson was young and naive, she’d watch these dramas while listening to Old Master Black and Grandpa Sampton bellow at the screen, calling them nonsense, yet in her heart, she thought those protagonists were so formidable and cool.

As she grew up, Jane Sampson understood the sentiments that those two seniors felt when they cursed at those ridiculous plots.

After flipping through a few pages of the spy drama script, Jane Sampson set it aside and picked up the other script to start reading.

The drama was long, and Jane Sampson hadn’t finished it even after reading all morning, but after getting through part of it, Jane Sampson immediately understood why Rock Bell had suggested she take this drama.

In the entirety of the drama, the villainous female supporting role played a very important part in driving many climaxes and twists. Moreover, this antagonist wasn’t obviously bad on the surface and easily recognized as a villain.

On the contrary, this female supporting role continued to deal with the main characters in a naïve and ignorant manner until about a dozen episodes in. It was only later, to drive the plot forward, that her true nature was revealed, and by that time, she had already secured her concubine position.

Afterward, the female supporting role stopped hiding her ruthless methods and cold-bloodedness. With her family background, good looks, and royal favor, even the Empress had to give her some leeway.

Jane Sampson thought about the fate of this character while cooking in the kitchen.

As a daughter, she was given to the Imperial Palace as a political sacrifice by her family, forced to give up the person she originally loved, entering the deep concubine quarters of the palace.

For the honor of her clan, she had to be scheming every step of the way in the harem.

At first, she was merely trying to survive. When bullied, she fought hard to endure it, biting down on her teeth.
