CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 368: Chapter 376: Husband or Ex-Husband

This was also Jane’s roundabout way of telling James Carter that her liking for Gwendolyn Young wasn’t a casual remark.

Gwendolyn Young is a folk singer, particularly famous for the Guardian Team Song, and many in the great courtyard, from three-year-olds to those in their sixties or seventies, could hum a few lines.

”What a coincidence, my grandpa was a guard too, and so was my grandfather,” James Carter wasn’t surprised at all that Jane grew up in the team area courtyard.

The two spent a while in James Carter’s study on the second floor, where Jane also looked at his early manuscripts. They continued chatting until Gwendolyn Young called them downstairs for a meal.

As she went downstairs, Jane noticed an extra man in team uniform, who was helping Gwendolyn carry the vegetables out from the kitchen. Gwendolyn was standing right next to him, whispering something softly, and after finished talking, she laughed very cheerfully. ”Why is dad back at this time?” James Carter was a bit surprised as he came downstairs.

”Your mother said you brought a friend home so she asked me to come back and play host,” Father Carter responded when he heard Jane greet him as uncle, he nodded and hummed in acknowledgment before realizing something else and added, ”Feel free to ask for anything you’d like to eat; just tell James and he’ll get it for you.”

It wasn’t until then that James realized that his mom, and his father who was called back from the guard team by his mom, might have misunderstood something.

Jane was his friend, but Mrs. Young might have mistaken her for his girlfriend, and that’s why she specifically called his father back, probably to meet his future daughter-in-law, right?

Realizing this mix-up, James let out a soft chuckle, but noticing Jane seemed unaware of any discrepancy, so he didn’t explain it to his parents in front of her to avoid making her embarrassed.

When the meal was served, Jane couldn’t help but exclaim, ”Teacher Yang’s culinary skills are really amazing!”

”Hey, if you’re calling James’s dad ’uncle,’ why still call me Teacher Yang? Just call me Aunt,” Gwendolyn Young specifically corrected Jane’s way of addressing her.

The title ’Aunt’ sounded much warmer than ’Teacher Yang’ after all.

Father Carter glanced at his wife, guessing she was quite taken with the girl.

Thinking about his wife’s personality, Father Carter assumed she hadn’t clarified everything. Thus, once they started eating, he casually asked, ”Your name is Jane Sampson? It’s a very nice name. What do your family members do for work?”

”My family?” Jane didn’t find anything wrong with Father Carter’s question, so she directly answered, ”My husband is a guard, my father is a businessman, my mom is a full-time wife, my grandpa is a guard.”

”Pfft~”

”What did you say? Husband?”

Both Gwendolyn Young and her husband were stunned.

After a moment of shock, Gwendolyn Young asked, ”Husband or ex-husband?”

Gwendolyn Young thought to herself that if it was an ex-husband, it was still okay as long as the girl was nice. It wasn’t easy for her son, who was already at such an age, to fancy a girl, voluntarily pick her up from the airport, and even bring her home.

If she had been divorced, so be it. Looking at the girl, she seemed decent, and this daughter-in-law, she had to accept.

”Husband.” This time, Jane picked up on something amiss. After all, what was this about an ’ex-husband’?

”Dad, Mom, Jane and her husband have a good relationship,” James Carter said with a smile, his mouth corners curled up, watching his parents who looked as if they’d been struck by lightning. ”Her husband is also a guard; I’ve met him.”
