Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1046: Chapter 614: Held Hostage?

”Why... not agree to him? He’s truly a good man.” Qi Ziheng smiled weakly, ”Actually, I’ve been awake for a while, I’ve heard everyone’s conversations.”

Luo Ye glared at him: ”Why worry about these things instead of properly recuperating?”

According to the doctor’s diagnosis, Qi Ziheng’s departure is in the next few days. Mrs. Qi found Luo Ye just to convey this matter; she said nothing else.

With her intelligence, Luo Ye naturally understood the implication behind it, so she voluntarily requested to stay overnight to keep watch.

As for Feng Tianzhi’s inquiries, she resisted them with silent protest.

That kind of inquiry, if she claimed it didn’t touch her at all, it would be a lie. But she had rejected before, more than once; silence seemed the best answer.

The disappointment in Feng Tianzhi’s eyes was clear when he left, but she could only choose to ignore it. The madness and obsession of this man truly left her at a loss.

She secretly pondered, if she had met him before Ye Xuan, would she have liked him? Would they have been together? The answer — she didn’t know.

Qi Ziheng observed Luo Ye’s expression, sighed lightly, and changed the subject: ”Luoluo, there’s a green notebook in the drawer of the bedside cabinet, please help me take it out.”

Luo Ye stood up, picked up the notebook and handed it to him. In the lamplight, Qi Ziheng’s face was pale, eyes sunken, yet his pupils were sparkling brightly: ”Originally, I intended for Mom to give this to you after my passing, but now being able to do this in person, it makes me very happy.” He closed his eyes, hugging the notebook and taking a deep breath, then handed it to Luo Ye, ”Please accept it.”

”For me?” Luo Ye took the notebook in wonder and opened it — her portrait emerged clearly before her eyes! Page after page, all were sketches of her, the technique adept, strokes robust, lifelike!

Qi Ziheng blushed with a shy smile: ”When I had nothing to do lying on the hospital bed, I imagined and drew various versions of you, it was my greatest motivation to sustain me until now.”

”Thank you!” Luo Ye’s voice was somewhat choked up.

”Luoluo, don’t cry...” Qi Ziheng’s smile deepened, ”Once I had a girl I liked, having a chance to see her before leaving made me feel very lucky, so even now, there’s nothing to regret.”

Luo Ye tried hard to squeeze out a smile: ”Senior, when did you start liking me?”

”At that New Year’s Day performance, your charisma of mastering both English and French deeply attracted me, however, back then...” Qi Ziheng chuckled lightly, ”Back then, I was quite proud, even if I liked you, I wouldn’t say it voluntarily, but couldn’t help paying attention to your news.

Every time you achieved something, I’d hide away to secretly laugh alone, in the hope that when you graduate, I could tell you in person, that I like you.

Learning that you had a fiancé, especially that your fiancé was the Chief Ye Instructor, made me particularly sad. Though proud, I had self-awareness; compared to Chief Ye, I had no advantages at all.

This affection accompanied me silently year after year, yet unexpectedly, before your graduation, I had to leave.

Saying ”I like you” has become impossible, but spending my last days with your companionship made me truly satisfied, unfortunately, I look so bad now, did I scare you, Luoluo?”

”Senior, you’re still so handsome...” Luo Ye trying hard to hold back tears, ”Be strong, I’m waiting for you to create miracles!”

Qi Ziheng nodded with a smile: ”Alright, I’ll strive to create miracles, aiming to say at graduation, ’I like you,’ even if rejected, I must say it.”

”Okay, I’m waiting, whoever breaks their promise is a little dog.” Luo Ye extended her little finger, ”Pinky swear.”

”Pinky swear hang, don’t regret it for a hundred years!”

The woman in bed 28 secretly turned away to wipe her tears, the man glared at her, his own eyes gradually turning red.

Qi Ziheng noticed the couple’s little actions, and hurried to comfort them: ”Uncle Wang, Aunt Li, I’m fine, I’m especially happy today, really.”

The woman forced a smile and explained: ”Uncle and Aunt are happy for you, not sad.”

Standing outside the sickroom, Mrs. Qi was already overwhelmed by tears, seeing her son’s spirit and energy, the time perhaps was... imminent.

”Why stand outside?” Mr. Qi hurried over, fearfully looking into the room, Mrs. Qi grabbed him, ”Miss Luo is inside.”

”Miss Luo came?” Mr. Qi peeked in and sighed softly, ”For the rest of our lives, our motivation is just to repay her.”

”Boss Qu and Miss Luo are both good people, you must work hard, the son’s medical expenses, besides the army, Boss Qu contributed the most.”

Mr. Qi nodded: ”I know, that’s why I didn’t tell Boss Qu about Ziheng’s situation, otherwise, he definitely wouldn’t let me work night shifts.”

With Luo Ye’s keen hearing, how could she not clearly catch the couple’s dialogue? She sighed heavily with her eyes closed, looked at Qi Ziheng: ”Senior, Uncle and Aunt, I will take care of them.”

Qi Ziheng’s eyes brightened, struggling to sit up, Luo Ye hurriedly pressed him down: ”Senior, whatever you want to say or do, I know it all, hurry and sleep, you can’t overexert yourself now.”

Qi Ziheng shook his head: ”No, I’m reluctant to sleep.”

”I will always be with you, don’t worry.” Luo Ye tucked his quilt in, ”Be obedient, or else I’ll leave now.”

”Okay, I’ll sleep, I’ll sleep right away.” Qi Ziheng obediently closed his eyes, half an hour later, his breathing gradually became even.

Luo Ye rose and went outside the ward, seeing the Qi couple leaning against each other sitting on the bench dozing off, she gently patted both: ”Uncle and Aunt, go in and sleep, it’s cold outside, don’t catch a cold.”

Mr. Qi jerked awake, sprang up: ”Miss Luo, thank you, really, thank you so much.”

Luo Ye smiled and waved her hand: ”My senior and I are schoolmates. I’ll do what I can to help, no need to be so polite.” From a distance, Feng Tianzhi walked over, and Luo Ye looked at him puzzled, ”Captain Feng, why are you here again?”

Feng Tianzhi nodded to the Qi couple and pulled Luo Ye aside: ”My car is parked outside, why don’t you take a nap there? I’ll keep watch here with them.”

”No need, with my stamina, staying up one or two nights is no problem...” Luo Ye sighed, ”At a time like this, how could I fall asleep?”

Feng Tianzhi pushed her towards the door: ”Even if you can’t sleep, you should try. Listen to me!”

”Captain Feng...” Luo Ye looked at him helplessly, ”My point this afternoon was clear enough, can’t you just... stop wasting time on me?”

Feng Tianzhi glared at her: ”That’s my business. So young, why so naggy?”

Luo Ye glared back at him: ”Whether I stay or not is my business, why are you so naggy?”

”Little Ye’er...” Feng Tianzhi’s long eyes narrowed, ”Can I take this to mean it’s a couple’s thing?”

”Annoying!” Luo Ye snorted, pushed him away, and walked towards the Qi couple, ”Uncle, Aunt, let’s go inside. We’ll keep him company together.”

Feng Tianzhi watched her back, smiled, and followed them in.

Three days later, Qi Ziheng left with a satisfied smile.

After dealing with Qi Ziheng’s affairs, Luo Ye had a long talk with Qi Ziheng’s parents. The next day, the Qi couple moved into the Wen Family.

Luo Ye wasn’t just being kind-hearted; it was just that sometimes, when opportunities align, you can lend a hand, so why not?

After returning to school, Bai Qingchu’s gaze towards Luo Ye grew more complex. After a long hesitation, she finally found Luo Ye for a talk. It turned out, all Qi’s relatives thought it was disgraceful for the Qi couple to work as servants at the Wen Family. Even though the Wen Family was unmatched in prominence locally, being servants was a bit hard for their relatives to accept.

After listening to Bai Qingchu, Luo Ye sighed softly: ”Qingchu, do you think your aunt and uncle would be happy staying at home?”

Bai Qingchu thought for a moment and confidently said, ”No.”

Luo Ye nodded: ”Alright, let me analyze it for you. If we were to bring your aunt and uncle back to the Wen Family just to live without work, that’s impossible. It’s not about money for me, but first, it would not be proper, and second, they wouldn’t accept it.

Your cousin is gone, and what they need is a job that gives them a sense of security. After all, they face retirement issues in the future.

Working for the Wen Family happens to solve this problem, so is it disgraceful for them to work at the Wen Family? Let me ask, which one of those relatives can guarantee they will support them in their old age?”

”This...” Bai Qingchu frowned, shook her head after a long pause, ”Indeed none.”

”Then that’s settled. If they can’t help, they shouldn’t be pointing fingers. You’ve known me for a long time, and you know your aunt and uncle even better. Tell me, isn’t my way the best way?” Luo Ye patted her, ”I’m not the type to sympathize with everyone I meet, I’m helping them because they’re kind-hearted, and I promised your cousin to take care of them.

Once they’re inside the Wen Family and become workers, their future is secured. Don’t you think this is a win-win situation?”

Bai Qingchu lowered her head in shame: ”I’m sorry, Luoluo, I was wrong!”

”Silly, let’s go.” Luo Ye said as she started walking with her towards the dormitory.

”Luoluo...” Bai Qingchu tugged on her arm, ”In the future, I won’t doubt you again, and I won’t stir up trouble over unnecessary things.”

Luo Ye patted her on the head: ”That’s more like it.”

Liu Xing ran over, sweating profusely: ”Luoluo, I... need to talk to you about something.”

”I’m heading back.” Bai Qingchu blushed slightly, glanced at Liu Xing, and quickly ran off.

”My little aunt just called me, saying Luo Lian was kidnapped. Of course, she’s not sure, it’s just a gut feeling, and I wasn’t sure what to do, so I rushed over to find you.” Liu Xing said urgently.

Luo Ye, without a word, took out her phone and dialed Luo Lian’s number: ”Sorry, the user you have dialed is temporarily unavailable...”

The mechanical female voice repeated over and over, seemingly confirming something.
