Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1030: Chapter 603: Feng Tianzhi’s Invitation

”Captain Feng, thank you for your concern, but I don’t intend to use marriage as a way to avoid risk. If I were to do that, wouldn’t it be too much of a failure?” Luo Ye refused Feng Tianzhi’s suggestion.

”That’s the Little Ye’er I like.” Feng Tianzhi leaned back with a smile, ”Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye out for you. Anyone who dares to touch Little Ye’er will certainly meet a grim fate!”

”Uh...” Luo Ye looked at Feng Tianzhi speechlessly. She must have been seeing things! Or maybe Captain Feng was possessed by something or other! Definitely!

”What kind of expression is that? Let me tell you, my concern is genuine, and my suggestion for marriage is sincere, but...” Feng Tianzhi squinted and smiled, ”Little Ye’er is so ambitious, and that makes me even happier.”

Luo Ye looked at him helplessly, ”Oh, do you have anything else to say?”

”Let me think...” Feng Tianzhi tapped his forehead, ”Right, I’m a shareholder of Liangyou Elderly Home, when will you accompany me to visit the seniors there?”

Luo Ye pouted, ”Forget it, I’m not going with you.”

”Little Ye’er, how can you be so petty? I invested my money so generously, and you won’t even do me this little favor. It’s quite disappointing.”

Luo Ye remained unmoved, ”If you think the money was wasted, you can take it back.”

”Little Ye’er...” Feng Tianzhi’s expression became serious, ”Do I really annoy you that much?”

”...”

”It’s okay, just be honest.”

”...”

”Silence won’t solve the problem. If you don’t give me an answer, I’ll keep insisting. Think it over, will you answer me or not?”

”...”

”Can you say something?”

”Nothing to say.” Mou Ye finally spoke.

Feng Tianzhi’s eyes rapidly filled with amusement, ”Got it, so you’re saying you not only don’t dislike me, but you have some fondness for me, right?”

”Captain Feng...” Luo Ye looked at Feng Tianzhi, helpless, ”Is using reverse psychology fun? Actually, you should have a sense of what I feel towards you. Do I need to keep repeating it?”

Feng Tianzhi lazily looked at her, ”If you don’t say it, how would I know what’s on your mind? I’m not a worm in your stomach.”

”I’ve said it many times, aren’t you tired of hearing it?” Luo Ye looked at him conflicted, ”Or is your memory so bad you’ve already forgotten what I’ve said?”

”Never mind, I won’t tease you anymore, it’s getting less fun.” Feng Tianzhi waved his hand, ”Come with me to the elderly home, this is an order!”

”Why?” Luo Ye pouted.

Feng Tianzhi glanced at her, ”All students from our school have to help at the elderly home. Today, it’s your turn, okay?”

Luo Ye checked the calendar, ”I’m supposed to go next Wednesday.”

”Advance it, you have a task next Wednesday.”

”Bandit.” Luo Ye mumbled softly and stood up to walk out, ”Let’s go.”

”Understood.

”Uh...” Luo Ye looked back at him, ”Captain Feng, you go ahead.”

Feng Tianzhi stretched his hand, ”No need, Luo, you go ahead.”

”Then, I won’t be polite.” Luo Ye sped up and ran a few steps, smugly glanced back, almost bumped into Captain Feng, startled, she quickly turned around. Uh, she was wrong, really wrong, for Feng the Madman wouldn’t care about others’ opinions anyhow.

”What’s wrong, worried I’ll fall behind?” Feng Tianzhi’s voice was full of teasing.

”Hmph...”

...

”Uncle Sun, how’s your leg? Still hurting?”

”Not hurting anymore, Xiao Zhi, the ointment you gave really works, I only used it for three days and it’s fine now. The rest was taken by Lao Miao.”

”As long as it works, next time I’ll bring more over, and it’ll be up to you to take care of anyone here who has leg problems.”

”Alright, alright, thank you Xiao Zhi, Little Ye’er, Xiao Zhi is a good lad.”

”Granny Zhang, how’s your stomach condition?”

”Much better, Xiao Zhi, you’ve got such heart. If I had a son like you, I’d be enjoying old age bliss.”

”Then, you can treat me as your son. I’ll come visit you often.”

”That would be lovely, that would be lovely...”

”...”

Watching Feng Tianzhi chatting and laughing with the elderly all along the way, Luo Ye finally understood why he insisted she accompany him to the elderly home.

Finally finding some spare time, Luo Ye glanced at him, ”Captain Feng, you’ve got quite the good rapport with people here.”

Feng Tianzhi nodded proudly, ”That’s right. I brought you along to show you that when I do good deeds, it’s not with ulterior motives.

Indeed, I initially invested money in the elderly home because of Ye’er. But after a few visits, I discovered that the seniors here are particularly lovable. I sincerely feel that my actions are right.”

From afar, an elderly man rolled his wheelchair over, and Feng Tianzhi quickly went to greet him, ”Grandpa Li, are you out for a stroll on your own?”

”Indeed, Xiao Zhi, you’ve come?” Grandpa Li smiled with squinting eyes, examining him, ”Xiao Zhi, you seem thinner again. Have you been particularly busy lately?”

”Yes, the students had special training for a month, and I trained along with them. I appear to be a bit more robust.” Feng Tianzhi said this while massaging the other person’s shoulders, ”Old man, I notice your complexion has improved quite a bit. How is it, does coming out often make you feel better?”

”You’re right. Why did I always like staying indoors before?” Grandpa Li wiped his eyes’ corners, ”Unfortunately, Lao Miao is gone. He was the one who kept me company for the past while.”

Feng Tianzhi gently patted him, ”Grandpa Li, don’t be sad. Those who are alive should live happily; that’s what’s most important.”

”Indeed, I know.” Grandpa Li looked at Luo Ye, ”Ye’er, you’ve gotten thinner too. You need to eat more and build yourself up.”

”Thank you, Grandpa Li, for your concern. I will.” At this moment, Luo Ye seemed calm but was actually exceedingly shocked inside.

This Grandpa Li was once the notorious dweller of the elderly home.

In the Vietnam War, the elderly man killed many enemies but lost a leg while seizing a high ground, forcing him to retire. When he returned home, he realized his parents had passed away two years prior.

The town, considering him a hero, arranged for him to guard the town hall. The elder’s hatred for evil led him to not have many friends there.

Later, the town leadership found a reason to send him home, giving him a meager monthly stipend.

During those times, there were many such retired soldiers, and the country couldn’t take care of them all. The elderly man, being someone who didn’t wish to bother others, suppressed his grievances.

When he first came to the elderly home, he was almost like a mute. Whether it was service personnel or other seniors who spoke to him, he would look at them with indifferent eyes and not respond.

Luo Ye had also chatted with him one-on-one a few times, but unfortunately, there was never any result.

Unexpectedly, Feng Tianzhi managed to get the old man to open up and return to normalcy.

”How did you do it?” Inside the office, Luo Ye couldn’t resist asking.

Feng Tianzhi chuckled, ”You all treated him as a weakling, a wounded one to persuade. But think about it carefully; if he were truly weak, how could he have gone to the battlefield and killed so many enemies? And how would he endure not receiving fair treatment?

In those days, endurance was a form of strength. To them, not troubling the country was the most correct thing. So, when we talked, we started with his past glories. Gradually, he started accepting me.

Once the knot in his heart was untied, his personality brightened. Now, he has good relations with the service staff and quite a few of the seniors in the home.”

”Understood.” Luo Ye stood up, ”I’m going to get changed for work. How about you?”

”Ye’er, I asked you to come for another reason.” Feng Tianzhi checked the time, ”Someone wants to meet you. Can you oblige?”

”Who?” Luo Ye looked at him puzzled, ”I should know everyone in the elderly home. Who exactly wants to meet me?”

Feng Tianzhi coughed awkwardly, ”My grandpa.”

”Grandpa Feng?” Luo Ye frowned, ”What’s this about?”

”My grandpa has been in Sha City recently. Since I’ve invested most of my money here, he wants to take a look and also has an additional condition to meet you.” Feng Tianzhi coughed again, ”If I had told you beforehand, you likely wouldn’t have come along with me, right?”

”Not necessarily. After all, you’re also a major shareholder of Liangyou Elderly Home...” Luo Ye sighed lightly, ”To be honest, there are very few charitable structures seriously focusing on the elderly community. It’s difficult for Liangyou alone to expand this matter. For the companies and individuals supporting Liangyou Elderly Home, we are genuinely grateful from the bottom of our hearts...”

Feng Tianzhi interrupted her, ”Providing for the elderly is a social responsibility. It’s not something to burden upon you. There’s no point in saying who should be grateful about this. Let’s leave it; this topic is too broad. Let’s focus on what’s right in front of us.

Ye’er, I suspect my old man’s going to want a one-on-one chat with you. If he says anything you don’t like, you don’t have to pay attention to him. Elderly folks are like that; they always think they’re right and like to lecture.”

Luo Ye nodded briskly, ”Alright.”

Feng Tianzhi paused, scratched his head, ”However, don’t go picking a fight with the old man. He’s quite old now and has a bit of high blood pressure. If something happens, it’s not good.”

Luo Ye was at a loss, ”Am I that unreliable?”

Feng Tianzhi chuckled softly, ”From your tone earlier, I thought you might do something that unreliable.”

Luo Ye thought about it, seriously looking at Feng Tianzhi, ”I’m meeting your grandpa because he too is considered a major shareholder of Liangyou. Nothing else, understand?”

”Understood. I won’t misunderstand.” Feng Tianzhi scratched his head, ”Does that mean, in your heart, I’m that unreliable?”

”Uh...” Luo Ye was speechless; how did he turn her words back on her now?
