Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1011: Chapter 592: Thoughts and Turning Point

Small business room.

Director Liu Lirui, former head of the Sha City office, was pacing back and forth with a cup of tea, her knuckles turning white with tension, indicating her unsettled mood.

”Knock knock...”

The cup jolted, a few droplets splashed onto the tea table, quickly forming a spot, Liu Huarui swiftly wiped it with a tissue and sat up straight: ”Come in!”

The door was gently pushed open, and Luo Ye stood charmingly at the door, smiling politely: ”Director Liu, you wanted to see me?”

Liu Huarui nodded and pointed to the seat opposite: ”Come sit down, I didn’t see you last night, so I wanted to chat with you. As the representative sent by the committee, it’s not right not to meet the meritorious one, you know?”

Luo Ye apologized with a smile: ”Sorry, I took a leave yesterday, but managed to make it over later, though it was a bit late.”

Liu Lirui chuckled: ”Luo Ye is always busy wherever she goes, but indeed, it validates the saying ’the capable do more work.’

”Thank you for the compliment,” replied Luo Ye neither humbly nor arrogantly; she had not reached the hotel yet when Li Qingqi called saying Director Liu was looking for her everywhere. Considering past grudges, she reckoned the person had no legitimate reason for seeking her out, probably just wanted to sneer at her.

”Luo Ye, where is your hometown?” Liu Lirui asked with a smile, pouring Luo Ye a cup of tea, ”Have some water, we’re just having a casual chat.”

Luo Ye expressed gratitude and took a sip: ”Is Director Liu asking about my ancestral place?”

Liu Lirui nodded: ”Indeed, GF University achieved such remarkable results in this debate competition; the leaders are giving it great importance. That’s why they specifically dispatched me along with the Education Department leaders, hoping to have some preliminary understanding of each team member for subsequent promotional work.”

If you want to check these, can’t you just pull up the files? Luo Ye secretly grumbled in her heart but maintained a calm expression: ”My ancestral home is Luo Family Village, Yun Meng County, Island City, Ludong Province.”

Liu Lirui abruptly sat up straight, her eyes sparkling: ”Are your parents doing well, and is there anyone else in the family?”

”My parents are doing well; besides them, I have an elder brother who is now a graduate student at R University; Grandpa lives with my parents...” Luo Ye paused, ”Do I need to mention other relatives as well?”

”No need for others, your dad is the Governor of Ludong Province, right?”

Luo Ye nodded: ”Yes.”

”Are your dad and mom getting along well?”

”Very well.” Luo Ye looked at Liu Lirui in wonder, why did this woman seem so interested in her father? Was she being overly sensitive, or was there really something to it?

Liu Lirui quickly explained: ”Don’t misunderstand, we just want to understand the team members’ family and relationships for easier phrasing during promotion.”

”What does the debate competition’s promotion have to do with my parents?”

”It doesn’t concern them, but it affects your education and growth trajectory. As the personal gold award winner of this debate, you are, of course, a reporting subject.”

”Well, if I may speak frankly.” Luo Ye looked at her seriously, ”As far as I know, this kind of promotion is usually handled by the PR department and requires official interviews, right?”

Liu Lirui coughed lightly: ”I... am now a propaganda officer in the PR department.”

Luo Ye realized Liu Lirui was likely entangled in the Monique incident, demoted due to disciplinary action. No wonder she was accompanying them; she had been wondering since when office directors started meddling with Education Department matters. Thinking of this, she smiled politely: ”Sorry, Mr. Liu.”

”It’s alright, the rise or fall of positions is quite normal.” Liu Lirui smiled, ”Could you describe your family’s interaction? For instance, who does the housework? Is your education managed by your dad or mom, things like that.”

”What’s the relationship between this and the debate competition?” Luo Ye looked at Liu Lirui with confusion; she couldn’t quite pinpoint the purpose of these questions, even if she were genuinely a propaganda officer, why ask such questions?

”Indeed, as I mentioned before, it is directly related to your education and growth footprint; I do hope Luo can cooperate.”

”Alright then, but frankly, these questions make me feel like I’m back in elementary school...” Luo Ye spread her hands, ”I’m just expressing my feelings candidly; I hope Director Liu won’t mind.”

Liu Lirui apologized with a smile: ”Just started handling this aspect, my inquiries might be unprofessional, but believe me, once drafted, it will definitely not feel like this.”

”Alright, I’ll answer truthfully. In my family, my dad handles external affairs while my mom manages the home; as for studies, it mostly depends on our own interests, my parents don’t really interfere with our matters.” Luo Ye spread her hands again, ”You’ve asked so broadly, I can only answer as broadly.”
