Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 700: Chapter 413: Coming Knocking

Three meters ahead, Qi Dong was being beaten by Xing Nong, yelping for mercy. Little Pumpkin switched his luggage from his right hand to his left, flashing a mischievous smile as he patted Lu Lu on the shoulder: ”Congratulations man, in the future, ah hahaha... you know what I mean... hahaha...”

Lu Lu glanced at him sideways: ”I advise you to think before you speak, or you might bring trouble on yourself and have nowhere to cry later.”

Wen Nan stopped laughing and shook his head: ”No way, Little Mi is really gentle, she would never do something so fierce.”

”That’s not necessarily true. She’s young and hasn’t settled down yet. Who dares to say what she might do in the future?” Lu Lu lifted Wen Nan’s chin: ”Let Grandpa tease you a bit, and when the time comes, I’ll have your back.”

”Step off!” Wen Nan pushed him: ”Really, you two are a pair of hooligans!”

”This kid is addicted to fighting.” Lu Lu shoved the suitcase into Wen Nan’s hands and scurried over, pulling the joyfully brawling Xing Nong into his chest: ”Nongnong, stop it, do you want to beat him to death?”

”Mind your own business!” Xing Nong thrust her elbow back and stomped her foot, causing Lu Lu to inhale sharply from the pain but he kept holding onto her: ”It’s me, cut it out.”

”You... who are you?” Xing Nong stammered.

”Your future husband, current boyfriend—Lu Lu.”

”Who... who asked you to come?” Xing Nong said as she bit his arm: ”Let go of me!”

”Uh?” Lu Lu hummed lightly without much weight to it.

Xing Nong quickly switched tones, smiling ingratiatingly: ”I... I mean, we’re at the doorway, let’s not hug and cuddle, we should be mindful of our manners, right?”

Lu Lu pointed at Qi Dong who had just gotten up: ”Who’s that guy, and why did he provoke you?”

Xing Nong rolled her eyes: ”Him? A shameless scumbag. I won’t talk about the past, but he blocked me early in the morning and said he wanted to chase after me. Lu Lu, he’s trying to steal your girlfriend, and you were pleading for him. Hmph, decide what you want to do!”

”So that’s how it is.” Lu Lu let go of Xing Nong and walked over to Qi Dong while Little Pumpkin hurriedly shouted: ”Hey, go easy on him, don’t kill anyone.”

”Who said I’m going to beat him?” Lu Lu scoffed disdainfully: ”That’s what barbarians do, I’m a civilized person, how could I do such a thing?”

”That’s good.” Wen Nan dragged his luggage forward, shoving Lu Lu’s suitcase into Xing Nong’s hands: ”Here, take your boyfriend’s luggage, it’s your responsibility.”

Xing Nong’s eyes widened: ”What... what do you mean by this?”

Wen Nan looked down on her: ”Are you dumb? He’s here to meet the parents; your Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, and Mom, so they are aware of his existence as their future son-in-law, to save the old folks from worrying and setting up marriages for you, preventing trouble later on.”

Xing Nong growled angrily: ”I say, why didn’t you discuss it with me before coming? Is this how you do things? I’m not even that old yet, how can I bring this up with my Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, and Mom? Do you want me to live?”

”What’s the rush? Be ladylike. We’ll talk about this later, let’s deal with the current situation first.” Lu Lu said as he patted the dust off Qi Dong: ”Does it hurt from the beating?”

Qi Dong sized up Lu Lu, who towered over him and shrank back: ”Just now you said you wouldn’t hit anyone.”

”Right, I don’t hit people. Look how pitiful our Nongnong made you....” Lu Lu took a handkerchief and ”wiped” Qi Dong’s face...

”Ah...” Qi Dong cried out in pain, stepping back and glaring at him: ”I let Nongnong hit me because I like her, that doesn’t mean you can bully me!”

”Nongnong?” Lu Lu curled his lips: ”Who are you to call her that? She’s my future wife, Lu Lu. You’re trying to steal her away from me. Do you expect me to applaud and welcome you?”

Qi Dong looked puzzled at Xing Nong: ”Is he... really your boyfriend?”

Xing Nong looked at him with disdain: ”I’m saying, are you a masochist? I’ve already beaten you to a pulp, and you still can’t give up?”

Qi Dong puffed out his chest: ”Beating is affection, scolding is love. You like me, that’s why you hit me. Nongnong, I really like you, even if he is your boyfriend, I won’t give up. As long as you’re not married, I have the right to pursue you.”

”No wonder I find you so endearing, so that’s why.” Lu Lu kicked Qi Dong’s butt and with a tug on his arm, flipped him over onto the ground.

The sequence of actions was too fast, Qi Dong didn’t have time to react before finding himself on the ground. When he came to his senses, his eyes were filled with fury: ”You... you don’t keep your word.”

”I didn’t hit you. I welcomed you warmly, in the way you wanted,” Lu Lu squatted in front of him: ”I know what kind of a person Nongnong is, she would never treat you this way just because you’re chasing her. I advise you, start anew from this moment on, be a better man. If you don’t heed my advice, next time you won’t be so lucky. Given Nongnong’s temperament, she might actually cripple you. Then, forget about climbing any high branches, even finding an ordinary family might be difficult. Believe it or not?”

”She wouldn’t treat me that way,” Qi Dong stubbornly said.

Xing Nong glared at him: ”I would. If it weren’t for Lu Lu stopping me today, I wouldn’t have let it go. Also, don’t tell me you like me to disgust me. We both know exactly why you’re chasing me.”

Alright, I’ll tell you based on your measure of standards. Lu Lu’s Grandpa is a Provincial Party Secretary of a certain province, and his dad is the Deputy Mayor of a Prefecture-level City. Tell me, what do you have compared to him?

”True feelings cannot be measured by family background.” Qi Dong asserted confidently, though his voice was getting weaker.

”If you know what’s good for you, let this be the end of it. If you continue to cling on, I don’t mind. It’s a good opportunity to practice my skills,” said Xing Nong with a malicious grin. ”Right, I’m actually in need of a shooting target. Why don’t we make a deal and you can be my target?”

”I... I have something else to attend to. I’ll come back another day,” Qi Dong said, retreating with terror in his eyes, his face probably turning pale, though it was hard to tell because of the purplish hue.

Xing Nong stopped paying attention to him and looked at Lu Lu: ”I’ll take you to Luoluo’s master’s home. It’s pretty empty there; it can accommodate both of you.”

Lu Lu held her hand and headed toward the courtyard: ”We’ll talk about this later, let’s go meet the elders first.”

”Hey, can’t you be reasonable?” Xing Nong was pulling back: ”I haven’t spoken to my family yet. If we just show up like this, it will scare them. Let me break the news to them first, okay?”

Lu Lu shook his head: ”No, your ’vaccine’ might take years to prepare, and you’ve already met my family. It’s only fair.”

”Little Pumpkin...” Xing Nong pleaded with Wen Nan.

Wen Nan, dragging two suitcases, looked helpless: ”I can’t do anything about it. If it were up to me, we would have gone to my aunt’s house to settle down after getting off the plane before coming to find you. But he insisted on meeting your family first before anything else.”

”Once settled in, who knows into which turtle shell she’ll retreat,” Lu Lu said while pulling Xing Nong toward the main courtyard: ”A cut with the head extended or retracted is still a cut, might as well get it over with.”

Xing Nong sulked and muttered, ”If you know it’s like facing the knife, why force me to go through with it? You say you like me, but it’s all nonsense. Anyone who really likes me wouldn’t make things so difficult for me.”

Lu Lu looked serious: ”Because I like you, I must meet your family before the New Year. Initially, my parents wanted to come too, but I persuaded them not to scare your family. You know our families; it’s possible that during a conversation with friends, the topic of our marriage could be agreed upon. Better to be open about it in advance, don’t you think?”

Xing Nong frowned in conflict: ”But you’re way too young.”

Wen Nan had caught up and kicked Xing Nong’s foot: ”Hurry up. No one can change Young Master Lu’s mind once it’s made up. Just give in.”

...

It was rare for Mr. Yan and Mrs. Yan to come home and gather together. Grandpa Yan and Grandma Yan didn’t go out either, and they were all enjoying tea and conversation when the door was pushed open.

Mrs. Yan, seeing that her daughter had returned, scolded in habit: ”Nongnong, did you forget something again? You’re always so forgetful.”

”It’s not...” Xing Nong smiled awkwardly, pointing to Lu Lu and Wen Nan who had entered: ”They’re my friends, just coming to familiarize themselves with the place.”

Grandma Wen stood up smiling: ”And they’re still dragging their luggage. Put it down and come have some hot water to warm up in this freezing weather.”

”Thank you, Grandma,” Lu Lu bowed politely and then said: ”Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Auntie, my name is Lu Lu, and I’m Xing Nong’s boyfriend. I came specially today to visit the elders.”

”Boy... boyfriend?” Mrs. Yan stammered and repeated, looking at Xing Nong: ”Tell me, what is this all about? How old are you? How old is he?”

Xing Nong shrank: ”I...” she looked pleadingly at Grandma Yan.

Grandma Yan, feeling sorry for her granddaughter, quickly invited them: ”Sit down, let’s talk about this slowly.”

”Mom, don’t indulge her in this. How old is she?” Mrs. Yan glared at her daughter: ”Answer the question I just asked.”

”Auntie...”

Mrs. Yan glared at Lu Lu: ”You shut up. It’s none of your business.”

Xing Nong braced herself: ”I’m 18, he’s 16. I’ve already met his parents. He will join me next year at GF University as my classmate, and in the future, we will surely be together.”

”You... you...” Mrs. Yan trembled with anger, ”Dad, Mom, look at her. She’s no better than a little hooligan. Just look at her attitude, huh...”

Grandpa Yan waved his hand: ”Don’t blame Nongnong’s mom right away, I think young Lu isn’t bad. If he hadn’t said it, I would’ve thought he was about the same age as Nongnong. And the boy is certainly more sensible than Nongnong. It’s not when the marriage happens; it’s whether the two are compatible. Honestly, I’ve been envious of the Luo Family and the Shangguan Family recently, seeing their children paired up, while our Nongnong is still single. This is good now.”

”Dad...” Mrs. Yan was dumbfounded.
