Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 653: Chapter 384: Father and Daughter Reunited / Meeting the Family

Luo Lian’s eyes misted over: ”I always knew, Mom was missing someone. When I was young, I often saw her holding a photograph and crying. In the photo was a man and a woman, both of whom I did not recognize.

Back then I was young, merely curious as to why Mom would cry over a photograph, then burn it. Next time, there would be another new photo that made her cry, then she would burn it, too.

I asked Mom about it, and her answer was that I was just a child, and I would understand when I grew up. But I hadn’t grown up before she left me.

Her death was entirely due to lovesickness. She kept a diary, which detailed her longing for a man, yet she never mentioned his name.

Before she left, she gave me the Jade Pendant, stating it was a keepsake from my biological father, and hoped that one day, it would help me find him.

Yet she also warned me not to let Emma’s family see the Jade Pendant. Emma was her best friend, who she entrusted me to before she passed away.

Look, she was so contradictory – wanting me to be recognized but worrying others might exploit the fact if they knew. Her whole life, she devoted herself to the man she loved, but what did he do for her?

Cozying up and being intimate with his wife, constantly tormenting her. No matter who sent those photos, the man in them was essentially her killer.

Seeing your reaction to the Jade Pendant, I understand – you could be the man she loved. I also realize, the man in the photos, that is you. As for the woman...” At this point, Luo Lian paused, lips curving into a scornful smile.

”They’ve gone too far!” Qiao Aimin’s eyes suddenly became bloodshot, and with one punch, he struck the table, causing cups and teapots to clatter angrily, startling the waiter who ran over, but was stopped at the door by Jiujiu.

”Lianlian, I can’t do anything to undo the harm done to your mother, but for you, I hope it’s not too late. I will do everything in my power to make amends to you.” Qiao Aimin wiped a tear from the corner of his eye. ”Lianlian, come home, will you?”

”If I hadn’t witnessed your behavior today with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have acknowledged you. Ever since I was a child, I’ve hated the man and woman in the photo; it was because of them that Mom was sad and left me.

Over the years, living at Emma’s, I had to endure bullying from my sisters and safeguard against my brother’s abuse, all the while carefully concealing my talents to win Emma’s favor.

Without you, my life wouldn’t have been so miserable. Can you understand how I feel? I hate your wife, very much so...” Luo Lian said, unable to continue through her tears.

”Lianlian, I am divorced from her now. You won’t have to see her again, nor worry about dealing with her. Please come back. Grandpa and Grandma know about you now and will be very happy.

Grandpa and Grandma always liked your mother and always felt sorry for her. Just a few days ago, Grandma was still talking about finding your mother, if only we had known...” Qiao Aimin covered his face, unable to continue.

After a moment, he felt his left wrist being grasped by a soft little hand. Overcome with surprise, he moved his right hand away to find Luo Lian, with tears in her eyes looking at him, her small hand resting on his wrist. ”Lianlian...” he called, his large hand trembling as he covered hers.

”I’ve decided to be honest with you...” Luo Lian looked at him with clear eyes: ”In the private room, when you bid us farewell, I had already guessed you were the one my mother loved.

Because, her name was indeed Luo Xiang before, Luo Nian was changed later. Yet, your arrival was so sudden, and I hated you so much, I didn’t want to admit it.

The reason for my change of heart was because I guessed the phone call you took was from your daughter, Qiao Xiaowan, and I guessed, the purpose of her call was to reconcile you with Lian Qinghua.

I can’t allow it – the person who killed my mother doesn’t deserve happiness again, while my mom has to suffer in that cold world.

Thus, I followed you, and showed the Jade Pendant deliberately, wanting to confirm whether or not you truly were my biological father.

Whether you are or not, I had to tell you about my mother. She can’t have waited a lifetime in vain and let the person who harmed her live happily ever after.

This, I originally did not want to tell you, but your actions, and that kick you landed for me, made me realize – maybe the man my mother loved is worthy of her love. I cannot let my own actions desecrate her memory.”
