Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 690: Chapter 405: Thoughts and Reunion Plans

Waiting for Grandpa Luo’s words to settle, Luo Lian said, ”No wonder Mom recorded in her diary that she rarely saw Grandpa happy. It must have been this issue that troubled Grandpa all the time.”

Luo Ye looked at Grandpa Luo with a puzzled face: ”Just because of the marriage, Great Grandpa left home and never contacted the family again?”

Grandpa Luo sighed: ”My elder brother was not a heartless person. Although he fell out with your Great Grandpa back then, he still longed for his hometown.

The reason he never contacted us probably stems from two points. First, when he was driven out of the Luo Family, your Great Grandpa drew up a deed, found witnesses, and declared that he was no longer a member of the Luo Family.

My elder brother was a proud and self-respecting man. Initially, he probably didn’t return to the Luo Family due to saving face. Later on, it was probably because of that particular era.

In fact, there were people who made an issue out of my brother’s situation, but since the written agreement to sever ties existed, and Secretary Nian Ligang, who was the town party committee secretary at the time, helped to speak for us; plus, after your Great Grandpa left, there was no further contact with the family, and no traces of him were found, so in the end, the matter fizzled out.

My brother probably heard about these rumors, didn’t want to cause trouble for the family, and so he endured and didn’t contact us again. Ah, truly, fate plays with people.”

”Grandpa and Grandma passed away in a car accident, and Mom was only fifteen years old at the time. When she arrived at the hospital, Grandpa was already at death’s door. He entrusted Mom to return to China for college and take root in China as much as possible. Mom asked why, but he never answered. Now it seems he was really wary of causing trouble for the Luo Family.” As Luo Lian spoke, she started to choke up.

Wen Xin embraced Luo Lian with empathy: ”Poor child, from now on, your Third Aunt will cherish you in place of your sister.”

”Okay.”

Tears brimmed in her eyes, but the corners of her mouth revealed a satisfied smile. Seeing Luo Lian like this made Wen Xin feel even more distressed, and she gently stroked her while tears also welled up in her eyes.

Luo Ye deliberately furrowed her brows: ”Mom and Lianlian are competing to look like the ultimate beauties by the water, leaving me, Sister Pingping, Yanyan, Jiujiu, Qiuqiu, and Xiaoju, Sister Li, wondering how to cope?”

The somewhat somber crowd immediately burst into laughter at her teasing.

Wen Xin poked her daughter’s forehead helplessly, ”You little thing, how did you become so slap-worthy?”

”Little thing?” Luo Ye pouted her mouth: ”Mom, you better see clearly, although I can’t compare to the model-like heights of Yanyan, Jiujiu, and Qiuqiu, I still have obvious advantages over you.”

”No matter how tall you are now, you grew from this tiny,” Wen Xin said, gesturing with her hands, showing that she hadn’t been much bigger than a mouse.

”Third Aunt, was Luoluo really that tiny when she was little?” Luo Lian gestured curiously with the length Wen Xin had just indicated.

”When you were little, you were also that size...” Luo Ye pointed to Ye Xuan: ”Even this tall guy wasn’t much bigger than me as a child, so no one should laugh at anyone.”

”Who’s laughing at you? I’ve never seen a newborn, just curious,” Luo Lian said with a mischievous smile: ”Now that Luoluo has a fiancé, I really hope she hurries up and has a baby, so I can see just how big a newborn really is.”

Luo Ye’s cheeks turned red, but she still refused to back down: ”You should have your own. I’m not old enough to have one.”

Wen Xin laughed and poked her daughter’s forehead: ”Shameless girl, aren’t you afraid Ye will laugh at you?”

Luo Feng spoke with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile: ”He’s probably hoping for it...” Seeing his sister glare at him, he quickly shifted the topic: ”Grandpa, about finding Lianlian, we should notify the uncles and Aunt, right?”

Old Sir Luo nodded: ”I’ll give them a call later. We’ll go back before the year’s end to acknowledge Lianlian’s ancestry.”

...

Shangguan Yingnuo’s home.

”Nuonuo, with your mind elsewhere, what are you thinking about?” Seeing her daughter standing in front of the window for a long time without moving, Mrs. Nuo couldn’t help but ask.

Ying Nuo let out a deep sigh: ”I don’t know if Luoluo and Star Manipulating Moonlight have returned. These heartless ones didn’t even phone me, so annoying.”

”Silly girl, you guys are so close, they’ll definitely tell you when they’re back...” Mrs. Nuo walked to the window and turned her daughter around: ”Tell Mom the truth, besides thinking about them, are you thinking about someone else?”

Ying Nuo stomped her feet in protest: ”Mom, I’m not even nineteen yet, why are you bringing this up again?”

”It’s best to look for a boyfriend early; if you’re late, all the good ones will be taken. Your Sister Minmin is only 23 this year, but she’s got your Aunt so anxious, asking around to introduce her to potential boyfriends.”

”Aunt is worrying needlessly. Your way of thinking from your generation doesn’t apply anymore. Sister Minmin is not in a hurry at all, but Aunt is everywhere trying to arrange blind dates for her. Sister Minmin won’t go, and Aunt becomes unhappy.

Sister Minmin told me, if this pressure keeps up, she’ll just settle with someone randomly. If she ends up happy, fine, but if not, won’t Aunt regret it to death?”

Mrs. Nuo sat her daughter back down on the sofa: ”Parents all hope for their children’s happiness. Nuonuo, Mom knows what you’re thinking, but still, I feel like we are aiming too high.

Those high doors and big households are not necessarily happy. For a family like ours, it’s better to find a well-matched partner and live a comfortable life, which beats everything else.”

Mom says this and you might not like to hear it, but you’ll understand in the future. When a woman falls in love, everything seems wonderful, but once you’re really married, you’ll find that many things are not what you imagined.

It’s better to marry someone of equal social status who will cherish and pamper you, treat you like a treasure. If you aim too high, you’ll spend your life looking up to others and that’s not pleasant. Think about it, which life would be happier?”

Ying Nuo hesitated for a moment, then looked seriously at Mrs. Nuo: ”I admit, I like Luo Feng, but he has a girlfriend. Mom, don’t worry about it for no reason.”

”Who is it?” Mrs. Nuo’s voice suddenly rose by five degrees.

Ying Nuo, speechless, rubbed her forehead: ”Why are you getting so worked up?”

Mrs. Nuo mumbled: ”Actually... think about it, the Luo family has great temperaments. It’d be a shame to miss this chance...”

Ying Nuo interrupted her: ”What’s with this incoherence? Mom, are you entering menopause early? One minute you’re telling me I can’t like him, the next you’re regretting a missed opportunity, what do you actually want?”

”If it weren’t for my daughter’s happiness, would I be so conflicted?” Mrs. Nuo gave her daughter a disapproving look: ”If I were greedy for power and wealth, I would hope for you to be with Luo Feng. If I were arrogant, I would force you to break up. But I’m neither, I just want my daughter’s happiness, which is why I’m so torn, and you’re not even appreciative.”

”Okay, okay, my fault, I know you care about me the most.” Ying Nuo chuckled as she caressed her mom’s cheek: ”Mom’s becoming more childish.”

Before Mrs. Nuo could respond, the phone rang urgently. Ying Nuo answered first, ”Hello, this is Ying Nuo.”

The voice of Aunt Shangguan Yunhong came through the phone: ”Nuonuo, hand the phone to your mom.”

”Probably Sister Minmin has another match-making date.” Ying Nuo mumbled as she passed the phone to Mrs. Nuo.

”That child.” Mrs. Nuo took the phone with a slap on her daughter’s hand: ”Big sister... yes... okay... I understand, we’ll be there on time.”

After hanging up, Ying Nuo pouted: ”Mom, I’m not going. Three times a month, every time listening to Auntie interrogate someone’s entire ancestry is so boring.”

”This time it’s not matchmaking. Your aunt mentioned that it’s Minmin’s boyfriend’s family inviting us, at the VIP hall of Liangyou Hotel. She’s notified your dad too, told us to be there by six o’clock sharp.” Mrs. Nuo spread her hands: ”Would it be polite not to go?”

Ying Nuo blinked her big eyes: ”Did Sister Minmin work it out with the guy from last time?”

”Yes, your aunt said, his dad is a deputy director at the North City Construction Office, his mom is the head of the second division at the National Tax Bureau, and he is their only son, so they are a good match.

Tonight, both families will meet officially.” Mrs. Nuo said as she stood up: ”For such a formal occasion, we need to dress up; I’m going to go buy some clothes for you and your dad.”

Ying Nuo rolled her eyes: ”Mom, is that really necessary?”

”Of course, it’s necessary. Your aunt likes to save face. If we’re not dressed up enough, she’ll feel disrespected. We haven’t bought clothes for the New Year anyway, now’s the time.” Mrs. Nuo checked the time: ”It’s exactly four o’clock, there’s still time, hurry up and change, come with me.”

”I can’t stand you guys.” Ying Nuo made a face without moving.

”Quick.” Mrs. Nuo was pulling on Ying Nuo when the phone rang again, ”You answer it, it’s probably your aunt forgetting to mention something.” Ying Nuo said lazily.

”Probably.” Mrs. Nuo said as she picked up the phone: ”Big sister... oh? Luo Luo, sorry, I just got off the phone with Nuonuo’s aunt, I thought it was her...”

Before Mrs. Nuo could finish, Ying Nuo grabbed the phone: ”Luo Luo, you’re back?”

Ying Nuo’s voice was full of surprise, making Luo Ye’s heart instantly warm, and chuckling he said: ”Yeah, Nuonuo, did you miss me?”

”Have the nerve to say that, huh? When you guys are all together, you probably forget about me, right?” Ying Nuo’s voice took on a hint of sadness, and tears welled up.

Seeing her daughter acting like this made Mrs. Nuo laugh uncontrollably; she quickly grabbed a tissue and helped her daughter wipe her tears: ”Are you not embarrassed?” She shouted into the phone: ”Luo Luo, Nuonuo’s crying, come and console her quick.”

”Mom is so annoying!” Ying Nuo pushed Mrs. Nuo away, sniffling: ”When did you get back?”

”I came back this afternoon. Nuonuo, my dad has arranged a meeting with Uncle Shangguan and Grandpa Yan. Tonight, our three families will get together. We’ll pick up you and your aunt at five-thirty. Can you ask your aunt if that’s okay?”

”When did Uncle Luo arrange a meeting with my dad?” Ying Nuo hurriedly asked.

”About ten minutes ago. I was waiting for dad to finalize things before I notified you and Xing Nong, just in case we set it up and they didn’t have time.”

Ying Nuo nodded: ”Alright, I’ll tell mom. We’ll wait for you at home.”
