Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 658: Chapter 386: Investigation / Seeking Death

Inside the GF conference room, Luo Ye sat face to face with a male and female military officer. The woman was in her forties, held the rank of Major General, was slightly plump, had silkworm eyebrows and up-slanted eyes—also known as phoenix eyes—forming a shape similar to an inverted ”8,” making her appear particularly stern. The man was in his thirties with the rank of Lieutenant, had thick eyebrows and narrow eyes, and wore a pair of glasses, projecting a gentle and refined demeanor.

These two were from the Military Committee General Case Investigation Office. The woman was named Li Yongping, the Deputy Director of the General Case Investigation Office, whereas the man was Hua Mingsen, the head of one of the departments in the office. They sought Luo Ye, naturally, to investigate the case involving her and Qiao Xiaowan.

Seeing that ten minutes had passed and both Li Yongping and Hua Mingsen had remained silent, Luo Ye secretly curled her lip. Did they consider her a criminal? Using psychological tactics, wouldn’t it be better to spend this time investigating Qiao Xiaowan?

”Luo Ye, do you know why we have come?” Li Yongping finally spoke up as she saw Luo Ye shift in her seat.

”I don’t know,” Luo Ye replied indifferently.

”Don’t know?” Li Yongping arched an eyebrow, a trace of coldness creeping onto her originally serious face.

”Deputy Director Li, to tell you the truth, I really don’t understand. The recording clearly captured the entire incident, yet your mannerisms and tone of voice...” Luo Ye paused and did not continue.

Li Yongping narrowed her eyes, ”Indeed, the video is very clear. I believe most people who have watched it would think you’re innocent.

However, under normal circumstances, when an object is flying towards oneself, the natural instinct is to block it with one’s arms. Yet you, why did you instead lift a chair and smash it back?

If you were a soldier who had undergone years of training, I wouldn’t be surprised, but you have only been in the military for less than half a year as a new trainee. Isn’t this reaction rather peculiar?”

Luo Ye clenched her fists, her eyes full of anger, ”Is swift reflex also a mistake? According to you, Deputy Director Li, would you only find it unsurprising if I were lying in a hospital, completely disfigured?”

Li Yongping smiled faintly, ”Luo Ye, this is the duty of the General Case Investigation Office. We cannot overlook even the slightest doubt. Given your current trajectory, you’re destined to participate in some important missions in the future, so there can be no flaws, understand?”

”I don’t understand. This ’flaw’ you speak of is truly beyond my comprehension.”

Li Yongping stared at her directly, ”Luo Ye, I know you’ve undergone specialized training, and for this, we specifically reviewed the training schemes from that time. The records show that your training did not involve such specialized tasks.

Your reaction at the time could only be explained in two ways: instinct or prior knowledge. Given the training you’ve received, such an instinct is impossible, leaving only one possibility—you knew beforehand.”

”Heh...” Luo Ye couldn’t help but laugh in anger, ”May I ask, Deputy Director Li, according to your guess, how could I possibly be aware of Qiao Xiaowan’s actions?”

A fierce glint flashed in Li Yongping’s eyes, ”That is precisely what I want to ask you.”

Luo Ye studied her, ”What’s the purpose of your investigation?”

”To uncover the truth of the matter and to determine whether you can stay with Fierce Tiger.” Li Yongping’s eyes narrowed sternly, ”Luo Ye, a member of Fierce Tiger must hold political ideology, hand-to-hand skills, knowledge, and appearance in equal importance.

Upon joining Fierce Tiger, you will encounter top-tier leaders. If team members are too vicious, then they are unsuitable for staying with Fierce Tiger.”

”Vicious?” Luo Ye was so exasperated that she was at a loss for words. How had she become ’vicious’?

”If you were aware of Qiao Xiaowan’s actions in advance and still took that action, causing her disfigurement...” Li Yongping paused, ”then you would be unsuitable for staying with Fierce Tiger.”

Luo Ye’s expression turned cold, ”Was it Vice Chairman Lin’s suggestion for me to join Fierce Tiger? Did he ask you to investigate me?”

Li Yongping waved a hand dismissively, ”Fierce Tiger currently consists of eight members, recommended by Vice Chairman Liang, Vice Chairman Lin, and Commander Yan respectively.

Under normal circumstances, you eight are already official members of Fierce Tiger, but after the incident with Qiao Xiaowan, a superior raised objections regarding your character. My duty is to clarify the case while also deciding whether to keep you with Fierce Tiger.”

Li Yongping’s words gave Luo Ye some clarity. When she phoned Vice Chairman Lin, he had laughingly said that if she had been two days late, her spot might not have been reserved.

At the time, she had thought he was merely joking. Now it seemed possible that it was indeed serious, evidently, her last-minute change of decision had disrupted the plans of some leader.
