Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 487: Chapter 291: Believe in Love

”What job is easy? Your actions tarnish the entire image of Island City. When tourists from other cities talk about taxi drivers in Island City, they feel nothing but displeasure. Is that something to be proud of?...”

”Mr. Qu, don’t argue anymore, let’s go.” Luo Ye tugged at Qu Yue, resolving to talk to her father about this matter.

It’s not that she intentionally wanted to clash with such petty characters. In her past life, the problem of taxi drivers overcharging out-of-town visitors in Island City was so severe that it was infuriating. By the time the government realized it needed to crack down hard, it had already become the norm. If the punishments were slightly severe, the drivers would band together and strike, which itself was quite a spectacle nationwide.

”Go ahead and sue if you want, you two ignorant kids. Just don’t let me run into you again!” The taxi driver cursed in embarrassment and quickly drove away.

At that time, regulation of taxi drivers had not yet been systematized, and the locals in Island City were extremely proud. Hence, Luo Ye was not surprised by his arrogance.

He probably thought it didn’t matter whether you were rich or poor, powerful or powerless. You won’t see them again, so he didn’t care. Regarding suing him, it’s just about losing 300 yuan – affordable for the taxi industry. Probably seeing that pleading wouldn’t help, he just decided to vent his frustrations.

Luo Ye shook her head. In her last life, she could be described as living in a daze, so she was not very clear when this situation had started.

Now, it seems, action must be taken promptly. How could tourists fall in love with a city, and enjoy their stay, if the city’s image is full of scars?

Qu Yue frowned as she watched the taxi drive away. ”Luo Ye, this matter, on a small scale, concerns your father’s development, and on a large scale, concerns the development of the entire city. We cannot let him off.”

”I understand.” Luo Ye spoke as she ascended the stairs. ”Let’s tread lightly, our master and Sister Li and Dongdong must have gone to bed.”

”Aren’t you going to inform uncle and aunt?” Qu Yue hesitated. ”They would surely like to see you right away if they knew you were back, even if it means they get a little less sleep.”

”The specific situation of Qingqing, I’m still not clear. I need to see her first and decide based on the actual situations,” Luo Ye earnestly looked at Qu Yue. ”Brother Qu, Qingqing’s matter concerns personal privacy, I’m not at liberty to tell you, please understand.”

”Look at you, why so serious? Whatever you do, I will support you.” Qu Yue patted Luo Ye’s head. ”Go inside.”

Luo Ye took out the keys and carefully slipped her hand through the hole to unlock the door, the door just opened a crack, and Big Yellow and Big White came running over, making ”woof woof” noises. Luo Ye quickly crouched down and gently stroked the two dogs: ”Big White, Big Yellow, be good, don’t make noise.”

”Luo Ye is back?” The master’s clear voice came over, and Luo Ye looked up joyfully, jumping up and running towards him: ”Master, did I wake you?”

”No, Ye Family is doing well in the East China, and I haven’t finished my work yet. You’re back for Qingqing, aren’t you?”

”Yes.” Luo Ye glanced at Sang Qingqing’s pitch-black window and went straight to the point: ”Master, I want to take her away for a while, to avoid the situation. What do you think?”

Seventh Uncle Ye pondered briefly and nodded: ”Changing the environment and adjusting a bit would be good.”

”Has it spread?” Luo Ye raised her eyebrows.

Seventh Uncle Ye sighed, ”Pretty much. Some people may not know exactly who’s being talked about, but it has become a topic of gossip. The more it spreads, the more it hurts her.”

”Whoever did this, must be held accountable for their actions!” Luo Ye’s voice carried a chilly determination. Seventh Uncle Ye patted her, ”Go ahead.” He chuckled, ”You have a good friend.”

Of course, he meant Qu Yue, who had quietly stayed by the door after closing it and didn’t come over until Seventh Uncle Ye waved. He hurriedly stepped forward: ”Uncle, hello, I am Luo Ye’s friend, Qu Yue.”

”Very good, very good.” Seventh Uncle Ye patted his shoulder: ”Strong young man, keep it up.”

Luo Ye was dumbfounded; the master’s old habit remained unchanged, always judging people first by their physique, ”Master, please find a room for him to rest. I am going to find Qingqing.”

Seventh Uncle Ye waved his hand: ”Don’t worry.”

...

Sang Qingqing sat cross-legged on her bed, staring blankly out the window at the moonlight. Love was something she never wanted to touch in this lifetime, but Su Can’s persistence slowly melted the ice in her heart.

Luo Ye was right, having someone who didn’t care about her past, who loved her deeply, was her fortune. Walking together was better than walking alone.

She thought she could face the reopening of old wounds calmly, but when it actually happened, she realized she was not as strong as she had imagined.

The carelessness of the past was because I planned to seek revenge and then find my parents. Now, my concern centers around wanting to live well. So, I must consider the feelings of those around me. After much thought, the only choice I have is to give up the right to love. But what about Ye’er? Will this affect the company’s development...

Luo Ye gently pushed open the door, and the lonely figure of Sang Qingqing under the cold moonlight seemed pitiful, the oversized pajamas hanging loosely—gone was her former charming grace. She stepped forward and gently embraced her: ”Qingqing.”

Sang Qingqing mechanically lifted her head to stare at Luo Ye. It took a while before she recognized who it was in front of her. Her body softened and she curled up in the other’s arms, sobbing like a child.

Luo Ye gently patted her, letting her vent. It seemed these days, she had almost reached her limit. Her gaze fell on the small bottle in her hand, which she snatched to examine under the moonlight; she could just make out the bold words ”Western Medicine.”

”Qingqing, you’ve survived the real storm, are you going to give up so easily now? You’re really disappointing me!” Luo Ye’s voice was tinged with anger.

”Ye’er, maybe my departure would be a relief to everyone.” Despite being so close, Sang Qingqing’s voice seemed distant, as if coming from the sky.

”Would it?” Luo Ye pushed her to meet her gaze: ”Once feelings are invested, can they easily be withdrawn? I consider you my own sister, and my master treats you like his daughter. Have you thought about our feelings if you just left like this?”

”Ye’er...”

”I know what you’re worried about, so now I’ll give you the answer. This won’t affect the company, and as for the rest, I believe you’ll slowly figure it out.”

”How did Ye’er know?” Sang Qingqing’s expression became frantic: ”I’m aware of the military academy’s rules; if Ye’er comes back this way, won’t there be punishment?”

”No, there won’t be. I asked for leave.” Luo Ye embraced her arms, speaking solemnly: ”Qingqing, living well and happily is the best way to honor those who’ve passed away. When love comes, don’t reject it; face it bravely. That is what a life of quality truly means.”

”Love, will it come again?” Sang Qingqing murmured softly: ”Is there true love in this world? But, even true love, isn’t it selfish? I’m really doubting whether I’ve misunderstood it all this time.”

Luo Ye thought for a moment and said, ”Let me tell you a true story. In Yamahos Town in the United Kingdom, there was a priest who at 38 was diagnosed with cancer. Aware that his end was near, he did something unexpected; he advertised for a husband for his wife.

Of course, his wife disagreed, for they had promised to only love each other for life, but he said he was the one breaking that promise first by leaving her.

Hence, he must ensure she lives happily so he can rest peacefully. Until the end of his life, ignoring his wife’s objections, he printed many flyers for distribution, but alas, he couldn’t find a suitable partner for his wife before his departure.

His last wish was for the content of the flyers to be inscribed on his tombstone, to continue seeking happiness for his wife. Only if she were happy would he be at peace.

The inscription reads: ’I, John Crowston, must now bid farewell to this world I cherish. I know it’s unfair to my wife; I promised to be with her until our hair turns white, but I can no longer fulfill this mission of love. I hope a kind, loving man will complete this mission for me. My wife, 36-year-old Maria, is a kind and beautiful nurse, a woman worthy of love. Her address is 9 Church Lane, Yamaleth Town.’

His profound love led to his wife marrying shortly after his death and she lived very happily, understanding that only her happiness could set him at ease.

Qingqing, this is real love. Similarly, the expectations from love and familial affection are alike. Don’t dismiss it as just an exception.

An exception implies that it does exist within a certain group, so you need to believe, see clearly, be certain, and not hesitate further, as that would cause harm to both yourself and others. If you really do something foolish, no one will forgive you.”

After a long silence, Sang Qingqing took a deep breath: ”You, at such a young age, always do things beyond your years. Let me think about it for a while, okay?”

Luo Ye nodded: ”No problem, come with me to Sha City for some time. A change of environment will help clear your thoughts and help you decide how to proceed.”

Sang Qingqing seemed tempted but then shook her head: ”No, I can’t abandon the company.”

Luo Ye raised the medicine bottle: ”When contemplating this, did you not think of the company? Don’t worry, Luo Shui will handle the software side, Sister Li has Wenxin Garden, and Liangyou’s professional managers are very capable. It’s okay if you take some time off. I shudder to think what might have happened if I hadn’t come back tonight...” Luo Ye choked up, unable to continue.

”I’m sorry...” Sang Qingqing hugged Luo Ye: ”I really feel like I can’t hold on any longer, and moreover, my current plight is my own doing.”

”What do you mean? Do you know who was behind this?” Luo Ye’s voice suddenly rose.
