Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 472: Chapter 283: Family Reunion

Liang Huarui uttered an inquiry merely as a formality, not waiting for anyone to respond before continuing: ”Xiao Yan’s green tea, Little Su’s coffee, Xiao Ke’s milk tea, coming right up!” With those words spoken, she was already headed into the kitchen.

Luo Ye realized in an instant, no wonder the three siblings snuck out; with a woman like this, feigning democracy but volunteering overbearingly, it indeed can be quite overbearing.

Wen Ke had a conflicted look on his face: ”I’m really at a loss. On her first day here, she insisted we tell her our favorite drinks. With no choice, each of us casually named one, and from then on, whenever we’re around and she is too, we can forget about changing up our tastes.”

”Someone’s looking after you—be content. Where’s all this grumbling coming from?” Grandma scolded: ”We have a guest at home, so be on your best behavior, and don’t embarrass Ye’er.”

”Embarrass Ye’er?” Wen Ke raised an eyebrow, puzzled: ”Other than Yaoguang and Xing Nong, did someone else come with Ye’er? Where are they?”

Wen Yan chuckled, ”Fool, when Grandma says that, she’s obviously not talking about Ye’er’s classmates. Could it be that Ye Xuan has arrived?”

Grandma smiled joyfully: ”My eldest grandson is indeed smart. But yes, aside from him, quite a few of Ye’er’s classmates have arrived too. They’ve gone to the back mountain to pick wild fruits.”

Wen Su pointed in disbelief in the direction of Old Master Wen’s study: ”Grandma, are you telling me that Ye Xuan is with Grandpa?”

”Why not?” Grandma retorted, discontent: ”I haven’t even gotten to meet him yet; he’s been completely monopolized by your Grandpa, the old coot.”

”I’m just a lonely little grass swaying in the wind, five years her senior, and she’s already taken?” Wen Ke gripped Luo Ye’s cheeks fiercely, forcing her to look at him: ”Little Ye’er, you’re not being fair. Last time you said you and Ye Xuan weren’t in that kind of relationship. You’re such a complete liar!”

”I didn’t lie; it really wasn’t like that back then. Grandma, you’re my witness.” Luo Ye, unable to turn her head with it being held by Wen Ke, tugged on Grandma’s sleeve for help.

Grandma chuckled and shook her head: ”I can’t vouch for this matter—who knows if Ye’er lied to me and the old man?”

”Grandma...” Luo Ye drew out her words, whimpering.

Wen Su stepped forward and pried Wen Ke’s hands off Luo Ye’s face: ”Okay, Xiao Ke, stop hassling her. In a bit, you can tease our future brother-in-law.”

Wen Ke pretended to be scared and shuddered: ”Forget it, I dare not tease our future brother-in-law. If the little girl gets jealous and really means business, I’ll be the one getting beaten up.”

”Tease away, I don’t mind, I won’t beat you,” Luo Ye generously responded.

”You said it, no takebacks,” Wen Ke sinisterly pinched Luo Ye’s thigh: ”Remember your words. I’m quite curious to meet this legendary individual.”

Wen Yan suddenly said: ”Ye’er, remember you told us that you have a friend named Qu Yue, also a student at S University, right?”

”Yes, he’s a first-year graduate student. Big brother, has something happened to him?” Luo Ye’s face showed concern; she hasn’t contacted Qu Yue and Tang Luo since returning from military training.

”It’s nothing serious, just that...”

”Crash!”

”I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!...”

Everyone turned to the source of the noise, where Liang Huarui was crouched down picking up a fallen tray of cups. Handsome Ye stood two meters away, expression unreadable. Luo Ye hurried over: ”What happened?”

”Ye’er, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do it.” Liang Huarui apologized while tidying up, with Nanny Zhang, Nanny Li, and Sister-in-law Yu coming out with tools to help.

”You guys clean up this place properly and make sure to dry the water spills, to prevent anyone from slipping and getting hurt.” Having directed the servants, Liang Huarui stood up and looked at Luo Ye: ”Congratulations Ye’er; your boyfriend is really handsome.”

Luo Ye looked at her with a half-smile: ”Our relationship has just been confirmed today, including my grandparents, who just found out as well. You’ve been upstairs the whole time and have not come down; how could you know he is my boyfriend?”

”I... I guessed.” Liang Huarui gestured at Ye Xuan: ”He’s wearing a military uniform after all.”

”A military uniform means he’s my boyfriend?” Luo Ye grabbed Ye Xuan: ”Let’s go, you haven’t formally greeted my Grandma yet. My big brother, second brother, and sister Ke have also arrived; let me introduce you.”

Almost bumping into Wen Ke, she quickly stopped herself: ”Big brother, second brother, sister Ke, this is Ye Xuan.”

Wen Yan extended his hand: ”Future brother-in-law, I’m Wen Yan, Ye’er’s elder brother.” ”Pleasure to meet you,” Ye Xuan said with effort, ready to go all out for Ye’er.

Wen Su pushed Wen Yan away: ”I’m Ye’er’s real elder brother, I’m Wen Su.”

”Don’t take advantage.” Luo Ye slapped him and looked at Ye Xuan: ”Both my big brother and second brother are of the same age as you, but they were born in early December, making them over seven months younger than you. Just call them by their names.”

Wen Su reluctantly nodded: ”I’ll spare our future brother-in-law for now. But once you two are married, he must address me as big brother.”

”Let’s talk about it in the future, first, meet my Grandma.” Luo Ye brushed the two aside and pulled Ye Xuan with her.

Grandma had been eagerly watching them all along. As they approached, she stood up with a beaming smile, examining Ye Xuan: ”This kid, he’s quite handsome, even more than Xiao Yan and Little Su.”

”Hi, Grandma,” Ye Xuan said carefully, helping the elderly lady sit down. ”Let’s sit and talk.”

”Wow, brother-in-law sure is attentive,” Wen Ke playfully nudged Luo Ye.

Luo Ye raised her eyebrows, a smug look on her face: ”Of course, how can I like someone without such attentiveness?”

”Look at how pleased you are,” Wen Ke teased Ye Xuan, ”Brother-in-law, call me ’sister’ and let me hear it.”

Ye Xuan turned his head, giving her a brief glance: ”If Ye’er agrees, I have no problem with it.”

”Ye’er, I am your only cousin. Let me indulge in this small wish, will you?” Wen Ke playfully nudged Luo Ye’s elbow, whining, ”Even just once is fine.”

Luo Ye shook her head: ”No, everyone should be treated equally.”

”How annoying,” Wen Ke pouted as she dragged Luo Ye to sit opposite Ye Xuan. ”Brother-in-law, you’re not just ordinarily handsome, I warn you, even if women throw themselves at you, you’ve got to firmly push them away.”

”Xiao Ke, what nonsense are you talking about?” the old lady scolded.

”Granny, I’m just looking out for Ye’er’s best interest. There’s a saying, ’Ugly words go forth,’ ’good manners come after.’ I mean, that’s the gist of it.”

Wen Su looked helpless: ”There’s a saying about ’good manners come first, then comes force,’ but aren’t you doing ’force first, good manners after’?”

Wen Ke casually waved her hand: ”It’s all the same, brother-in-law understands, right?”

”I understand,” Ye Xuan nodded, pulling out a jewelry box from his pocket. ”Grandma, I know you lack for nothing, but this is a token of my first visit.”

”You’re very thoughtful,” the old lady said with a smile, taking the box.

”Granny, show us what’s inside. What treasure did he bring?”

”You, always in such a hurry. When are you going to change that temper? If you continue like this, no one will dare marry you,” the old lady said helplessly as she reprimanded Wen Ke.

”If nobody marries me, then I won’t marry! Granny, quick! Show us!”

The old lady shook her head in speechlessness, no longer scolding, and opened the jewelry box. Inside lay a jade scraping board gleaming with lustrous sheen.

”This kid is truly thoughtful,” Grandma said delightedly, closing the box. ”Ye, based on your attentiveness, I can put half of my worries to rest. I’m sure you understand what I’m worried about. Ye’er’s Grandpa has probably talked to you about it too. Can you give me a solid promise?”

Ye Xuan looked determinedly at the old lady: ”Grandma, you can rest assured, Ye’er is more important to me than my own life. I won’t let her suffer the slightest grievance.”

”That’s good to hear. Since that’s the case, I won’t say any more,” the old lady said, extending her hand to caress the face of Luo Ye sitting opposite her. ”Girl, if you’re wronged, speak up. Grandma and Grandpa will ensure you get justice.”

”And us too,” Wen Yan said seriously, staring at Ye Xuan. ”If you do anything to wrong Ye’er, us brothers will never let you off the hook. The Wen Family would spare no expense to get justice for our sister.”

”Brother...” Luo Ye looked at them all, moved, ”Don’t worry, I’ll be happy.”

”I don’t want to make any more explanations; my actions will speak for themselves,” Ye Xuan said affectionately, gazing at Luo Ye. ”Ye’er, even if you’re a little bit unhappy, you must tell me. For you, I can change anything.”

”So corny,” Wen Ke shivered, ”You’re just rubbing it in our single faces.”

”You, aristocratic singleton?” the old lady chuckled at her granddaughter. ”Look at your behavior, does it even remotely fit with aristocracy?”

”Granny, are you nitpicking again?”

Liang Huarui came over carrying a tray: ”Mom’s grapefruit juice, Xiao Yan’s green tea, Little Su’s coffee, Xiao Ke’s milk tea, Ye’er’s rose tea.” Lastly, she placed a cup in front of Ye Xuan, smiling, ”I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I made the same as for Ye’er! Oh, and I haven’t introduced myself yet, I’m Ye’er’s little aunt.

I’m so sorry about earlier. I was carrying the drinks out and suddenly you appeared before me, I got a bit flustered. Thank goodness you dodged quickly, otherwise...”

No wonder it took her so long, she had gone back to the kitchen to make the drinks over again. Luo Ye didn’t know what to say to her, didn’t she realize that such awkward behavior only made people look down on her more?

Wen Ke looked sternly at Liang Huarui: ”Little aunt, I didn’t want to embarrass you in front of others just now. Grandma and Grandpa are too kind to ask Nanny Zhang to do chores, wasn’t what you did to her a bit too much?”

”I believe that in a big family like ours, there should be proper conduct between the masters and the servants, and we ought to treat everyone equally in front of other servants.

Just like me, serving you all because I understand that in a large family, a wife brought into the family should fulfill her duties. Am I wrong to do this?” Liang Huarui looked tearfully at the old lady: ”Mom, do you also think I’m wrong?”
