Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 482: Chapter 288: Collision

Hang Menglin stared at the wall clock, her heart pounding with an unexpected nervousness. She thought to herself that perhaps it was because of her earlier embarrassing performance that she felt this way.

Indeed, if she kept letting that little girl take the initiative, wouldn’t it be a joke? No need for others to laugh; her grandpa would be the first to do so.

There is no second place in the military; this was the creed her grandpa had instilled in her from a young age, and she had always striven for that goal. Unfortunately, she never became the first.

And now, there probably wouldn’t be any more chances. She had hoped her disciple would achieve it, but up to now, she hadn’t seen a glimmer of hope...

”Thirty-nine!”

”Thirty-eight!”

”...”

There were eight seconds left. Hang Menglin was excitedly stirring within, then stood up and decided to block Little Ye at the door. If she didn’t regain her ground today, she wouldn’t be able to sleep well!

Humph, men are really no good. The girl is only so young. They’d rather have her take the punishment than bring her back earlier, all while putting on the facade of a gentleman, claiming to be uninterested in the opposite sex. It turns out they’re all the same, aren’t they?

”Report, student Luo Ye has arrived to report!” Luo Ye showed up at the office door.

Startled out of her reverie, Hang Menglin glanced at the clock—two seconds to go! Disappointed, she pretentiously glanced at the clock again: ”Hmm, you’re on time. Go back.”

”Yes!” Luo Ye let out a sigh of relief, turned around, and almost bumped into someone, quickly stopping in her tracks. Looking up, it was an old acquaintance—Feng Tianzhi.

”Lieutenant Colonel Feng,” Luo Ye greeted in surprise, saluting.

After Feng Tianzhi returned the salute, he said with a smile, ”You should change your way of addressing me, call me Captain Feng.”

”Captain Feng?” Luo Ye looked incredulously at him. With his talents, how could he possibly be assigned as the captain of a student team? How had the Feng Family’s elders agreed to this?

”Surprised?” Feng Tianzhi chuckled: ”Little Ye’er, you know captains and students are not allowed to date, so rest assured, I won’t hit on you while I’m your captain.”

”Hmph!” Before Luo Ye could speak, Hang Menglin snorted first.

Feng Tianzhi glanced at her: ”That big sister over there, are you looking to date me? I’m not interested in women older than me, especially not those who can’t be clearly categorized as male or female.”

Luo Ye stifled a laugh, standing at attention: ”Captain Feng, goodbye!”

”Go on,” Feng Tianzhi said, not lingering any longer and waving his hand cheerfully.

”Feng Tianzhi, I’ve already submitted a request to swap partners. Don’t get too smug too soon,” Hang Menglin glared at Feng Tianzhi with a furious expression.

”You’re saying...” Feng Tianzhi moved closer to her, his narrow eyes curving with a smile: ”Whose request do you think the higher-ups will choose between the two of us?”

”You!” Hang Menglin was left speechless. Indeed, if both submitted requests at the same time, whose would the higher-ups select? The answer was obviously clear!

But to partner up with this notorious madman, she really couldn’t accept it. If she worked with him, would she even have a say?

Hang Menglin was still pondering when Feng Tianzhi spoke up: ”I’m responsible for organizing and managing the students’ daily life and training, while you’re in charge of the political work supporting my duties. Can you do that?”

”You... you...” Hang Menglin was so angry that she trembled, unable to speak.

”I am the captain, and you are the instructor; isn’t this the normal division of work?” Feng Tianzhi raised an eyebrow: ”I see, you’ve always performed the duties of a captain before, you’ve gotten used to it, right?”

Hang Menglin finally collected herself, her voice low: ”Not just me. Before, Ye Qingzhu also worked this way with Captain Xiang.”

”What happened before has nothing to do with me. Now that I’m taking over as captain, we must follow the rules completely,” Feng Tianzhi glanced at her: ”The higher-ups appointed Captain Xiang to train you all. With his age, it’s impossible for him to struggle alongside the students.

Under those circumstances, swapping your duties was normal. But I’m younger than you. If we were still to swap our duties, would that be acceptable?”

”Feng Tianzhi, why must you come here and get involved?” Hang Menglin scoffed coldly: ”Is it just to compete with Ye Xuan and to be closer to Luo Ye, trying to have the advantage of proximity to the water?

Let me tell you, that’s a pipe dream. The relationship between Luo Ye and Ye Xuan has already been reported; their togetherness is legitimate. Do you want to disrupt a military marriage?”

”I’m aware of all that,” Feng Tianzhi said comfortably leaning back: ”So what? Let’s not talk about the fact that they’re not yet married, even if they were, there’s nothing that can stop me, Feng Tianzhi, from doing what I want to do.”
