Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 484: Chapter 289: Xing Nong’s Troubles

Luo Ye walked to the corridor entrance when she heard waves of laughter coming from the different rooms, leaving her somewhat puzzled. Could it be that the news about Feng Tianzhi becoming the new team leader had spread? The girls did seem to like him quite a lot.

Thinking it over, she shook her head. The news shouldn’t have spread that quickly...

”Luoluo.”

Luo Ye looked up and saw Xing Nong standing at the top of the third-floor staircase, beaming at her.

”Why are you so happy?”

Xing Nong laughed as she came down: ”I have good news for you. The school is setting up a computer facility for our Team 5 students, and they’re about to make a big purchase. And this glorious task has been taken up by Wu Zetian and Yan Han. Isn’t it funny that it’s those two...”

Luo Ye interrupted her: ”Is that so laughable? The laughter is filling the corridor; isn’t that a bit of an exaggeration?”

”There’s another piece of good news. The internationally recognized computer authority, Dr. Yu Wenze from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has accepted our school’s teaching appointment. He will teach the computer course for the ’00 class, and...” Xing Nong paused teasingly: ”Guess what comes next?”

”The stairs come after,” Luo Ye said.

”What?” Xing Nong didn’t catch on for a moment.

”Isn’t there a staircase behind you?” Luo Ye rolled her eyes: ”Unless... you’ve grown a tail?”

Xing Nong slapped Luo Ye playfully: ”Naughty, you’re teasing me.”

”Stop playing games, just tell me what it is,” urged Luo Ye, grabbing her arm, ”Does your hand hurt? Mine sure does.”

”You deserve it!” Xing Nong lifted her head proudly: ”Flatter me, otherwise I won’t tell you.”

”I’ll go ask Yao Yao,” Luo Ye let go of her and started walking toward the dormitory.

”Alright, alright, I’ll tell you, there’s no fun in this.” Xing Nong caught her and pulled her into a corner, then looked around mysteriously.

Luo Ye slapped her: ”Hey, from the sound of it, everyone seems to know, so does it need to be so secretive? Is it that I’m not supposed to know? Or is it related to me?”

”Some things are openly known, but I also wanted to tell you some not so openly known stuff,” Xing Nong glanced slyly at Luo Ye: ”Luoluo, be honest, where have you been just now?”

”If you don’t want to say it, forget it.” Luo Ye turned to leave, tired of the guessing games.

”Okay, okay, I’ll tell you, isn’t that enough?” Xing Nong grasped her arm with a pitiful look: ”Mainly, I also have something I want to tell you.”

Luo Ye nodded: ”Alright, say everything you have to say in one go. If you hold back again... you can figure out the consequences yourself.”

”I know, I know, the good news is, in addition to the two talented graduate students becoming Professor Yu Wen’s assistants, three more will be selected from the new computer science freshmen to assist and participate in the research and development of a defense system, which is supposedly technology leading the international front.

It’s said that countries are competing for his talents, and our school has somehow managed to get him to willingly become a professor and researcher.

Everyone’s excited, hoping to be selected as his assistant, which could be a big opportunity. Luoluo, aren’t you excited too?”

”Professor Yu Wen?” Luo Ye muttered.

”Yes, Luoluo, do you know him?” Xing Nong asked curiously.

”How could I? I just think the surname is quite nice,” Luo Ye’s smile was forced. Yu Wenze, the computer genius, was the kind of mad genius who could work for a month without going home. But in the end...

”Luo Ye, what are you thinking about?”

Xing Nong’s inquiry interrupted Luo Ye’s thoughts, and she quickly took a breath and blinked: ”Worried I won’t be chosen, I’m nervous.”

”I have faith in you, my student,” Xing Nong raised her eyebrows: ”Are you really worried about not being chosen, or are you thinking about someone?”

Luo Ye poked her finger at Xing Nong: ”Can’t your brain hold anything decent? Anyway, wasn’t there something else you haven’t said yet? Hurry up.”

”It’s just... just...” Xing Nong hesitated, struggling to continue.

”What is it exactly, is Qiu’er also capable of being this shy? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for someone and you want me to help you pass a love letter?” Luo Ye inquired, eyeing her: ”Hmm, this bashfulness, it looks so apparent!”

”It’s not...” Red blush rapidly spread across her cheeks... her neck... and continued to deepen into a crimson tint...

”Haha?” Luo Ye lifted Xing Nong’s chin with a finger: ”My delicate girl, who are you so coyly trying to allure? Spill the beans!”

”Luoluo...” Xing Nong looked around again and lowered her voice, ”You must help me.”

”Spit it out, quick.” Luo Ye gave her a look, ”Do you think you are Lin Daiyu or something?”

”That... in the afternoon, weren’t we picking sour dates? Weren’t you away? As we walked, we got more scattered, and I was with Lu Lu the whole time.

When the sun’s intense light faded and the sky blazed with sunset, reflected on Lu Lu’s body, it looked so pretty. His skin glowed with a tender pink, and his three-dimensional facial silhouette was especially charming.

I was fooled by the sun, really, blurred by the sunshine, and before I realized it, I kissed him...” Xing Nong coughed uncomfortably, ”I... I kissed him on the lips, but let me clarify, I kissed him thinking he was just a kid, but...” She sagged, ”He won’t let it go, said it was his first kiss and that I should take responsibility. Luoluo, what do I do?”

Luo Ye pretended to hold her chin with thumb and forefinger, right by the corner of her mouth, seemingly pondering a solution. Xing Nong watched for a while and sensed something was off, ”Luoluo, I’m dying of anxiety here and you’re still laughing!”

”I don’t want to laugh either,” replied Luo Ye as she let go of her face while laughing, ”but I just can’t help it. Don’t be mad; I’m laughing at Lu Lu. He seems so quiet, but he sure has some ideas.”

”If you keep this up, I’ll ignore you.” Xing Nong’s face showed true anger.

Luo Ye composed herself and exhaled seriously, ”Does he mean... he wants you to be his girlfriend?”

”If that were the case, would I be begging you for help?” Luo Ye rolled her eyes, ”His demand is to report it to our families immediately, to have both parents meet and to... settle things early.

If I don’t agree, he’ll find his way to my house and demand an explanation from my mom and dad. Luoluo, if my parents find out, won’t they kill me?”

”Didn’t you tell him that dating is not allowed in military school?”

”I did, but the kid said, ’Regulations are dead, but people are alive, we can just keep it a secret at school.’” Xing Nong’s face twisted, ”He also said he’s going to take the college entrance exam early this year and join GF University.”

Luo Ye rubbed her forehead, ”Isn’t he the same grade as Little Pumpkin? So, a freshman, right? He plans to finish the high school curriculum in one year?”

”He said he had self-studied the high school knowledge long ago, and never skipped grades just because he didn’t want to leave Little Pumpkin behind.” Xing Nong’s brow was knotted with worry, ”He’s two years younger than me, Luoluo, it’s fun to tease him, but I never seriously thought about being with him. The way he’s acting, he might really approach my parents, or what if he tells the school, what then?”

”I’ve always told you to be careful or you might get yourself into trouble, see?” Luo Ye frowned, knowing the kid is 16 this year, just the age of impulsive behavior, and some things he could very well end up doing.

If the school or the parents find out, it won’t just be a little game—especially for Military Academy Students, it would be practically a death sentence!

”I’m saying, aren’t you hiding something else from me? How could a kiss get this complicated? At 16, he’s no longer a child and not less experienced than us.” Luo Ye stared at Xing Nong seriously, ”Tell me the truth.”

”No, really, every time I see him, I just play with him and ask him things, claiming...” Xing Nong’s voice trailed off, ”I told him not to date little girls, said he was mine...” She mumbled the last part.

”You!” Luo Ye sighed, ”Forget it, let’s not worry for now. Next time you’re on break, don’t go to my Grandpa’s place. I’ll have Little Pumpkin invite him over and talk to him alone. He should be reasonable. Who knows, he might be persuaded.

If he still insists, we’ll just appease him until after we graduate from the military school. By then, he’ll be in his twenties and capable of taking responsibility. By the way, do you know what his parents do? We’ve known each other for so long, and I forgot to ask this.”

”Civil servants.” Xing Nong furrowed her brows, ”And not low-ranking ones.”

”Not surprising, the ones who could be friends with Little Pumpkin, their families couldn’t be too bad off.” Luo Ye had a thought, ”How high-ranking?”

”His father is one of your big uncle’s close aides, and his mother, although not ranked highly—deputy director, but his grandfather sits high, being the Provincial Party Secretary of Xiang Province.” Xing Nong was almost in tears, ”If his family finds out, I’m done for.”

”Oh?” Luo Ye was taken aback, ”I really didn’t expect it to be that high, but his upbringing is indeed not bad, not pompous at all.”

”What’s ’not bad’? If his upbringing is so good, would he be pressuring me like this?” Xing Nong was pulling at her hair, ”If my Grandpa finds out... finds out I seduced a young boy, is he going to skin me?”

”Qiu’er, from how Lu Lu has behaved previously, he wouldn’t do that,” Luo Ye reassured patting her, ”Knowing his family background now, I’m actually more confident in him. With a grandfather and a father like that, they instilled in him values that won’t change. Don’t worry.”

”Luo Ye, your phone call, is Luo Ye there?”

Shouts came from a distance.

”I’m coming! I’m on my way!” As Luo Ye was shouting back, she turned to instruct Xing Nong, ”Let’s talk after I’ve spoken with him, stop worrying. What you need to do now is calm down.”
