Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 453: Chapter 270: Announcement of the List (Part 2)

”Luo Ye, congratulations!” Ye Jia’an’s expression was calm as he awarded the First-class Merit medal to Luo Ye, a stark difference from his demeanor the night before; he seemed like a completely different person.

”Thank you, sir!” Luo Ye saluted. After Vice Chairman Lin and Chief of Staff Ye returned to the podium, he turned around to salute those below the stage and then went back to his place.

”Wow, so beautiful.” Xing Nong stretched his neck to look at the medal on Luo Ye’s chest, daring not to make any small movements, as the officials were all sitting above.

”The following have been awarded the Second-class Merit: Deputy Regimental Commander Li Fujing of Division A’s Regiment 2 from Army A, Battalion Commander Chang Duanping of Battalion 3 from Regiment 1 of Division B from Army A, and Captain Xiang Mingliang of the Great 5 Team. We invite Regimental Commander Li Fujing and Battalion Commander Chang Duanping to come to the stage to receive their awards. We invite Major General Han Leming from the Great Team to receive the award on behalf of Captain Xiang Mingliang!”

The announcement by Bai Yan left the members of the cadet team exchanging glances. Captain Xiang has been awarded Second-class Merit but couldn’t come to receive it himself. What did that imply?

Worry quickly spread across the faces of the crowd. Although they didn’t spend much time with Xiang Mingliang, his careful and tolerant nature was extremely well-liked by the cadets.

It was only upon hearing Bai Yan’s introduction that they learned about what happened two weeks ago on a Sunday. Xiang Mingliang had accompanied his wife and daughter back to Ji County to visit his in-laws. His wife and daughter were staying for the night, so he took a coach bus alone back to Sha City.

The behavior of a woman holding a three or four-year-old boy on the bus had aroused his suspicion. When she got off the bus, he followed.

Sure enough, it turned out that the woman was a member of a child trafficking gang. While calling the police for help, he realized that the gang was about to meet and transfer the children, presumably having found buyers to sell all the children.

Without delay, he confronted the woman, leading to a fierce struggle. In the end, all five criminals were caught without any escaping, while Xiang Mingliang himself was seriously injured from a stab wound and is still confined to a hospital bed.

After all individual Second and Third-class merits were awarded, Vice Chairman Lin stood up and asked, ”What is the mission of the People’s Liberation Army?”

The soldiers below replied in unison: ”To strengthen national defense, resist aggression, safeguard the People’s Republic and the socialist system, protect the peaceful labor of the people, and serve the people wholeheartedly.”

”And what is the purpose of the People’s Liberation Army?”

”To stand firmly with the people, to serve the people with all one’s heart!”

Vice Chairman Lin nodded in satisfaction: ”I am proud to announce that, aside from the comrades who have been commended, everyone has done just that!” After he spoke, he sat down, signaling Bai Yan to continue with the next part of the ceremony.

”Formalism!” Xing Nong muttered under her breath.

Luo Ye poked her, signaling her to be quiet. Vice Chairman Lin did indeed have a bit of a penchant for formalism, a common trait among some leaders.

”During this military exercise, both Division A of Army A and Division B of Army B performed exceptionally well. After the leadership’s final determination, Division A is awarded the collective Second-class Merit once, and Division B the collective Third-class Merit once. We invite Lieutenant Colonel Ye Xuan and Lieutenant Colonel Feng Tianzhi to come to the stage to receive their awards.”

”Your Boss Ye won, wow, standing together, it’s still Handsome Ye who is more pleasing to the eye. Actually, if you just look at Feng Tianzhi, he’s also very handsome. But if you compare the two, it’s over!

Hey, wait, that’s not right. Luoluo, that pretty Major Bai looking at Elder Ye has a very strange expression in her eyes, you should...”

Xing Nong kept muttering endlessly, watching Ye Xuan and Feng Tianzhi on the stage.

Luo Ye glared at her: ”If you keep talking, I’ll sew your mouth shut.” She wasn’t blind; Bai Yan’s gaze towards Ye Xuan was indeed warmer than her gaze towards Feng Tianzhi.

While they were talking, the awarding ceremony below had finished, and Bai Yan smiled towards the cadets’ area: ”Next, General Xia will announce the list of cadet team members selected for Team A!”

All the cadets tensed up, even the formerly grinning Xing Nong.

General Xia stood up and spoke loudly, ”Selecting team members from the new cadets is a brand-new trial, aimed at discovering and fostering versatile military talents at an early stage, allowing everyone to make the best of their abilities as soon as possible.

The general instructors must have talked about the specific reasons many times, so I won’t go on about it. Now, I will announce the list of the selected team members: Yu Na, versatile talent; Wu Zetian, expert in topography; Ji Sisi, versatile talent and Yong Chun heir; Liu Xing, versatile talent with exceptional Flying Knife skills; Yan Han, versatile talent; Yan Xingnong, expert in gun skills. Congratulations to them!”

Luo Ye’s palms sweated with anxiety. So, she really wasn’t selected? What reason did Feng Tianzhi use to hold her back? Besides, she had earned a First-class Merit and had even foiled the missile brigade of the Red Army...

”Luoluo, that’s not right. Why weren’t you or Zhan Hao mentioned?” Xing Nong was the first to react.

”Huh?” Luo Ye carefully recalled and indeed did not hear Zhan Hao’s name. With his results and performance, it wasn’t supposed to be like this. Could someone also be obstructing him?

”Cadets Zhan Hao and Luo Ye, please come up to the podium,” Bai Yan called out.

The two were a bit perplexed; with their achievements, disputes shouldn’t be occurring. Once on stage, Bai Yan smiled, ”Just go straight to the officials over there.”

Vice Chairman Lin called the two to stand in front of him and said with a smile, ”Both of you have performed very prominently in the cadet team. General Lin of Army B believes that not all talents should remain in Army A and wishes to have one of you in Army B. Who is willing to go?”

Without hesitation, Luo Ye replied, ”I wish to join Team A and stay in Army A!”

”Me too!” Zhan Hao said.

”Hold on,” Lin Xibe chuckled, ”Army B is also a part of the Beijing Military Region. The officials have decided to build a special operations battalion in Army B that is no less formidable than Team A. If you transfer over, you won’t have to face exclusion by the old members, and the equipment will certainly be better than Team A’s. How does that sound?”

”Old Lin, are you openly poaching my people? Did the officials say they are providing you with better equipment than mine?” General Xia couldn’t let it go.
