Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 470: Chapter 282: Acceptance

Under the stern gaze of Old Master Wen, Ye Xuan stopped dodging: ”Grandpa, since Ye’er and I have confirmed our relationship, the matters of the Wen Family are also my own.

Of course, I understand that with the Wen Family’s background, there are hardly any problems that can’t be solved, but I cannot just stand by because of this.

Whether the Wen Family needs it or not, I should be by Ye’er’s side, sharing the burden with her. She would certainly disagree if I called her in advance, so I took the liberty of acting first and reporting afterward. Please forgive my impudence, Grandpa.”

Old Master Wen’s expression softened, but his words were still not polite: ”The relationship between you and Ye’er is only established by yourselves, which doesn’t really count, so for now, you have no place in the matters of the Wen Family.”

Ye Xuan thought for a moment: ”Grandpa, are you still satisfied with me?”

”Not at the point of being satisfied yet.”

”That means you’re not dissatisfied, but you don’t particularly like me either.” Ye Xuan figured it out, looking expectantly at Old Master Wen: ”Grandpa, I have a request. From now on, when Ye’er returns to the Wen Family, can I come with her?”

”If Ye’er wants to bring you back, I have no objections.” Old Master Wen fondly patted his granddaughter’s head: ”Ye’er, Grandpa still stands by what he said. If you truly like him, both Grandma and I will not interfere. However, Ye’er’s status is something we cannot afford to give up even a little!” The servants conscientiously retreated to a distance, and with only the three of them in the hall, Old Master Wen spoke without any reservations.

It seems that Grandpa always felt guilty about what happened with my mom and was afraid to argue about her issues, wary of hurting her. Luo Ye hugged Grandpa tenderly: ”Grandpa, you’re always looking after me, I understand.”

Ye Xuan hurried to express his stance: ”Grandpa, rest assured, Ye’er’s status has long been decided, and now we’re just lacking the formal ceremony. Of course, I hope it can be as soon as possible. However, because Ye’er is a Military Academy Student, there are many restrictions and inconveniences, so I plan to ask the elders to set a date for an engagement during the winter break. Is that okay with you?”

”Ye, everyone in these prominent families is well aware of your excellence. Elders with eligible daughters in their homes would probably be more than happy to have you as a son-in-law.

Hence, many people think that Ye’er marrying into the Ye Family is a more than favorable match, and we should be jubilantly accepting it.

But at this age, I have come to realize and see through it all - the strength of a family should never be maintained through the sacrifice of its children.

My saying this doesn’t mean that Ye’er marrying you constitutes a sacrifice. You are both intelligent children and are surely aware of the intricate matters between the elders.

I have always felt guilty towards your grandpa and your dad - as a father, I didn’t care for my daughter enough, which led to tragedy.

However, the Ye Family was in no way at fault in that event, so it’s no wonder your grandpa was very angry, declaring to cut off all ties and favors with the Wen Family.

For your generation to come together is to make up for past regrets, but if your family still harbors resentment, it can’t be considered a felicitous event.

A happy marriage should be cherished and blessed by all elders. Ye’er is our treasure, and I absolutely cannot tolerate any harm coming to her.”

”Grandpa, since you’ve asked, I will not lie. Among my direct elders, Grandpa and Grandma and Dad are supportive, only Mom has some reservations, but rest assured, I will convince her. Moreover, I believe that once she meets Ye’er, she will certainly like her.”

”Grandpa, I’ve asked about this too; he did say that,” Luo Ye quickly vouched for Ye Xuan.

Old Master Wen thought for a moment: ”Ye, I don’t mean to make things difficult for you, but it’s common knowledge that the Yu Family wishes to ask for your hand in marriage to their family. I hope the Ye Family could show a clear stance.

”Don’t worry, Grandpa, after Ye’er and I confirmed our relationship, I already notified the elders. From now on, any family that proposes should be clearly rejected, and they have agreed.”

”Alright, I’ll trust you for now.”

Ye Xuan breathed a sigh of relief: ”Grandpa, now could you please tell me what’s going on at the Wen Family? Since I’ve come so abruptly, I want to do my utmost to help.”

After pondering for a while, Old Master Wen replied, ”Well, the Ye Family’s intelligence network is something the Wen Family cannot match. Even though it’s a small matter, solving it sooner will ease the mind. Let’s go to the study together.”

Grandpa actually agreed to let Ye Xuan enter the study? Luo Ye’s little face turned excitedly rosy, and she got up, hugging and rubbing herself against Grandpa’s arm once more, then again.

Old Master Wen smiled and patted his granddaughter’s head affectionately: ”You little girl, tell the truth, are you closer to Grandpa or to Ye?”
