Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 398: Chapter 233: First Encounter

”Report!”

”Step out!”

Yan Han stepped forward: ”Report to the chief instructor, does that mean Luo Ye and Zhan Hao have already been predetermined to be among the final 16 remaining members?”

”No!”

Yan Han’s face showed stubborn defiance: ”But what you said was that they will serve as the monitor and monitress of the male and female classes until the end of training!”

”You’re quite good at picking at words.” Mo Datong’s stern face cracked a hint of a smile.

”Report to the chief instructor, I don’t like the predetermined actions of the privileged class, which is why I switched from being an athlete to a soldier. I’ve always believed that soldiers are the most upright and selfless. If so-called privilege also appears in the military, I don’t know where else I can find justice!”

Mo Datong stared at Yan Han for a long time, until the latter uncomfortably swallowed his saliva, then retracted his gaze, looking towards the students who were sneakily glancing at him: ”Alright, let me add one more thing, if Luo Ye and Zhan Hao get eliminated, their terms as class monitors will also end.”

Yan Han saluted: ”Thank you, chief instructor!”

”Soldiers, indeed, are the most upright and selfless. But it doesn’t mean that your actions just now were correct. Yan Han, if you don’t realize what your issues are, the road ahead will be very tough for you. Return to formation!”

Yan Han’s face showed a hint of resentment, but out of respect for Mo Datong’s authority, he didn’t dare say anything more and saluted before returning to the line.

”At ease!” Mo Datong surveyed the group with a stern expression, ”Those who stand here, are all outstanding students in various aspects.

To fairly judge oneself and others is something few can do. It’s natural for most people to recognize their own strengths and others’ weaknesses, and those who excel in many areas are even more prone to this habit.

From today onward, I hope you all learn to fairly measure both yourselves and others, to correctly view your own strengths and shortcomings, and correctly view the strengths and shortcomings of others, without clinging to their faults!

Furthermore, in this world, there is never absolute fairness and justice. If you obsess over these matters too much, it will only destroy you.

As an example, the reason you were selected is because you did more preparation than others, whether it be subjective or objective. If one were to consider fairness, could other students not argue that given the same opportunity, it’s uncertain who would actually be superior?

However, in reality, such fair chances to catch up do not exist. Regardless of the reasons that create the differences, you can only accept them. Just like birth, no matter what kind of family you are born into, no one gives you the chance to erase that disparity!

Thus, accurately perceive yourself, accurately perceive others, and only with a positive and rational heart will you find your place in this team and gain your own fairness!

No matter how much I explain, if you can’t understand, then it’s not really reasoning at all. Everyone, go back and reflect on this. I hope in the coming time, you’ll focus your energy where it should be. Dismissed!”

”Eh?” Xing Nong tapped Luoye Yaoguang: ”Look at the main gate.”

Following the direction indicated by Xing Nong, they saw a girl around 20 years old standing hesitantly at the gate, peeking inside, with two conspicuous shiny black pigtails. From a distance, it was hard to see her clearly, but judging from her silhouette, she probably wasn’t ugly.

The students mostly noticed the pigtailed girl, stopping their steps to watch, and stealing glances at Mo Datong’s expression. The mood of the crowd, initially subdued by the reprimand, now flickered with small excitement.

Yue Santie sympathetically looked at Mo Datong: ”Should I go or what?”

”I’ll go myself.” Mo Datong ran his hand through his hair and turned to glare at the audience who were eager for drama: ”Go take your showers already!” Looking at Yue Santie: ”Tell the quartermaster, cut the water supply on time, and cut the meals on time!”

”Yes!”

Hearing this, the students dashed towards the dormitories.

Luo Ye nudged Zhan Hao: ”It just hit me, why on earth did you end up catching one with a kid? Maybe you have a pigtailed girl looking for you too; look at those pigtails, so black and glossy, they’re like...”

Xing Nong interjected: ”Like a bull’s tail!”

”Get lost!” Luo Ye pinched her: ”Who talks like that?”

Li Xiaobei calculated with her fingers: ”It’s so long, it could sell for a good price. I cut mine off before coming to school, about a foot and a half, and got over a hundred bucks for it!”

Luo Ye mischievously continued to tease Zhan Hao: ”Did you hear that? You’ve missed another chance to make money.”

”Hurry up and shower!” said Zhan Hao, quickly escaping, while Wu Zetian chuckled and chased after him: ”Monitor, wait up for me and Liu Xing.”

Yan Han darkly watched Zhan Hao’s back, fists clenched.

Observing the whole scene, Xing Nong rolled her eyes and leaned closer to pat him: ”Yan Han, are you especially resentful that Zhan Hao was chosen as the class monitor?”

Yan Han took off the hand Xing Nong had placed on his shoulder, his face reddening slightly: ”I do resent it; my selection scores in all aspects were stronger than his. Why should he lead me?”

”Did you not pay any attention to what Mr. Mo just said?” Xing Nong scratched her head: ”That’s it, I’ve been casting pearls before swine.”

Yan Han’s expression turned frosty: ”I’m poor, I didn’t have the money to learn the piano, I could only join the long-distance running team that poor people would, to train a special skill.

When you young masters and misses were enjoying yourselves with poetry and art in the music room, I was sweating and running on the track, and maybe because some movement wasn’t done right, I was being kicked over by the coach on the track. However, I consider myself no less noble than you!”

”No... you... you are nobler than us all!” Xing Nong carefully edged back next to Luo Ye: ”Luoluo, I think I’ve caused trouble.”

Luo Ye glanced at Yan Han indifferently and pulled Xing Nong along: ”Let’s go take a shower.”

Yan Han roared, ”Stop right there!”

”How so?” Luo Ye turned back to look at him.

Struck by Luo Ye’s clear gaze, Yan Han was momentarily stunned before he said, ”I just wanted to tell you, I will prove through my actions who really is the best, who will have the last laugh!”

”Yan Han, there’s no need to prove anything to us...” Luo Ye paused for a moment before continuing, ”I didn’t want to say more, but since you called me back, I’ll give you a piece of advice. Think carefully about what Mr. Mo said.”

”Delicious, so tasty, the best wild fruit I’ve ever had.” Xing Nong ate the fruits Luo Ye picked and expressed with content, ”Luoluo, this is the best wild fruit I have ever tasted.”

Luo Ye curled his lip, ”That just shows how dull your life has been before.”

Yaoguang nodded in agreement, ”Exactly, I’ve eaten this stuff before.” Then, noticing Li Xiaobei curled up in a ball, she quickly asked, ”Little Bei, what’s wrong with you?”

”Could it be... your period?” Luo Ye put down the gourd basket, took a cup and poured hot water for Li Xiaobei.

Li Xiaobei had a pained expression, ”It started this afternoon. I was lying on the ground and didn’t notice at first, but now it’s cramping and painful.”

”Being a woman is troublesome. Boys never have to worry about this. They say there’s no difference between genders, how can that be?” Luo Ye dug through her bag for pain medication, ”Take one of these, it might relieve some pain.”

Li Xiaobei shook her head, ”Squad leader, I’m allergic to a lot of medicine, I break out in big hives.”

”What should we do then? Our training can start at any moment, and you’ve held on until now.” Luo Ye looked helpless, ”What did you do when you were in pain before?”

”Before, at school, I’d just tough it out. Once home, my grandma would make me brown sugar ginger tea, which really worked!”

”The kitchen door is shut tight. Where am I supposed to find you ginger tea?” Luo Ye tapped her head trying to think of a solution, ”How long does the pain last usually?”

”Two or three days.”

”Two or three days?” Xing Nong smacked her lips in surprise, ”Your pain lasts so long, haven’t you seen a doctor about it?”

”When I was 14, I was planting rice with family, and it coincided with my period. Since then, it’s been painful every time.” Li Xiaobei forced a smile: ”Just a countryside girl, without much fuss. My mom and grandma both say, it’ll be better after marriage.”

Xing Nong pouted, ”Why does everyone say that? Miaomiao is the same, though she gets hers once every three months. Calculating that, she’s a bit luckier than you.”

Luo Ye stood up, ”Forget it, I’ll go speak to the chief instructor. If it was just a few hours of pain, you could bear with it and it’d pass, but two to three days... I can’t even imagine what your previous days were like.”

Li Xiaobei’s face flushed with embarrassment, ”Squad leader, no, don’t... It’s too embarrassing to let the chief instructor know about this!”

”What if you get eliminated tomorrow because of this, would you be willing?”

”I...” Li Xiaobei hesitated and then shook her head, ”I’m not willing, it’s unfair.”

”See? I don’t think it’s embarrassing, what’s there for you to feel shy about?” Luo Ye grabbed Xing Nong by the arm, ”Come on, help me out.”

”Luoluo, hehe...” Xing Nong chuckled awkwardly, ”Are we really going?”

”Nonsense, if you’re not going, I’ll go by myself.”

”Who said I’m not going.” Xing Nong hurriedly followed, while Yaoguang hesitated before staying behind.

”Luoluo, I’ll just stand there and keep quiet.” Upon reaching Mo Datong’s door, Xing Nong stepped back a little.

”Coward!” Mou Ye muttered dissatisfied, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.

”Come in!” Mo Datong’s robust voice came from inside.

Inside the room, apart from Mo Datong, there was a man who appeared to be in his mid-twenties, with a slightly tanned complexion, thick brows, and thin lips. As he was seated, his height was indiscernible.

Mo Datong scrutinized the two, his stern face revealing no expression, ”Luo Ye, Yan Xingnong, what brings you here?”

The man examined Luo Ye with interest, a faint smile hanging on his lips, as if he was appraising a delicacy on a plate.

Feng Tianzhi! The name suddenly flashed in Luo Ye’s mind, noticing the resemblance with Feng Hua, and recalling Ye Mo’s instructions before his departure, she instantly guessed the man’s identity.

”Datong, looks like I’m the more handsome one...” The young man teased Luo Ye, ”Little female soldier, don’t you agree?”

Luo Ye grinned mischievously, ”Feng Tianzhi?”

The man was taken aback before he let out a sigh of relief, ”Did Ye Xuan show you my picture?”

”Too narcissistic,” Luo Ye scoffed, ”I guessed it was you because you and Feng Hua share a likeness.”

”You know Feng Hua?” Feng Tianzhi studied Luo Ye.

”She’s a celebrity at school. If I didn’t know her, I’d be as narcissistic as you.”
