Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 384: Chapter 224: Preparations and Training Begin

To fulfill Grandpa’s dream sooner and provide him a comfortable life, the mentor studied relentlessly and fervently worked on his projects, all in hopes to ultimately stay on campus and bring Grandpa to live in the faculty family housing.

Before obtaining his Ph.D., school leadership informed the mentor that he qualified to stay on campus. Overjoyed, he rushed home, only to find that Grandpa, unlike usual, did not come out to greet him.

Once inside, he found Grandpa lying on his side in bed, facing away, with vomit beside the pillow. Trembling, he touched him and realized Grandpa’s body had already stiffened.

The doctor’s final verdict was that Grandpa had been dead for over twenty hours, with the time of death being around eight o’clock the previous evening, caused by a heart attack.

I asked him, knowing the old man had a bad heart and being over seventy years old, why didn’t he send him to a nursing home? He said he had forced Grandpa to go, but the staff’s differential treatment was unbearable for Grandpa, who adamantly refused to waste money there.

The mentor regretted not insisting on sending Grandpa to the nursing home, which led to an irreversible tragedy, and he fell into a state of decline for a long time.

Later, feeling he couldn’t let down all the hard work Grandpa had put into his life, he pulled himself together. However, he was merely numbing himself with work, otherwise, he wouldn’t still be unmarried by now, and it seems like he doesn’t plan to marry at all.

During this time, I’ve been pondering this issue. There are many types of loneliness among the elderly, and since we have the capacity to help some and prevent such tragedies, it’s a good thing, right?

”Your mentor’s Grandpa is really pitiful, and so is the mentor,” Xing Nong tearfully said to Luo Ye, ”Luo Luo, can I also put my New Year’s money into it? Is that okay?”

”Sure,” Luo Ye considered, ”Boss Qu, our own capabilities are ultimately limited. Let’s set up a charity donation account, small amounts can be pennies, large amounts are unlimited. We should apply with the relevant departments, and with our families’ influence, approval shouldn’t be a problem. That way we can help more people, what do you think?”

Qu Yue nodded, ”That’s a good idea, I’ll find out the process and aim to have the framework set up by the time you guys are ’liberated.’”

”Our hospital can cooperate on this, taking care of the elderly’s healthcare and training nursing staff for the nursing home!” Dr. Zhong, who had been listening to their conversation after checking a patient, suddenly spoke up.

”Dr. Zhong, we definitely welcome that,” Luo Ye looked at Zhong Yi with surprise, ”But not to nag, would the leadership agree?”

”The hospital has been exploring providing medical support for the elderly recently, this could be a great opportunity. I’ll handle the negotiations, you can count on me.”

Luo Ye, Qu Yue, and Xing Nong exchanged glances, saying in unison, ”Thank you so much, Dr. Zhong!”

”Don’t be formal with me. Doing this kind of thing can genuinely bring joy. I really value your friendship, and regarding investment, I’d like to discuss it with my Grandpa and participate as well. You wouldn’t object, right?”

”Not at all!” everyone waved their hands in unison, Luo Ye’s dark eyes brimming with mischievous mirth, ”Dr. Zhong, remember this isn’t for profit, you can’t back out.”

”Luo Ye, are you underestimating the Zhong family? Our family has been in medicine for generations, and Grandpa devoted his life to the medical profession. Your nursing home aims to enhance the quality of life for the elderly, similar to saving lives, Grandpa would definitely support it a hundred percent.”

Luo Ye couldn’t help but mutter, ”The Zhan family is also a family of medical heritage, I wonder whose medical skills are better, Grandpa Zhong’s or Grandpa Zhan’s...”

”You’re talking about Grandpa Zhan Qiuru, right? He and my Grandpa get along very well. Whenever they meet, they always compare their chess skills, and whoever loses likes to be a sore loser, haha...” Zhong Yi couldn’t help but laugh, imagining the two nearly seventy-year-olds arguing heatedly.

”Can I make a request?” Mrs. Miao finally couldn’t hold back anymore.

”Aunt Miao, please go ahead,” Luo Ye smiled and looked over.

”When the nursing home is built, can I move there?” she quickly added, ”I’m not going to retire, I just want to spend time after work with some lonely elderly people, chatting with them, as I’m quite good at it.”

Qu Yue considered for a moment and looked at Mrs. Miao, ”If Aunt Miao is willing, why don’t you take charge of the nursing home? You needn’t work at Liangyou anymore.”

”But... what about the news?” Mrs. Miao lowered her voice, looking anxious, ”Isn’t that also quite important?”

Qu Yue couldn’t bluntly say it was for her peace of mind, putting on a serious face, ”Don’t worry, Aunt Miao, I will arrange for someone else to handle that. The nursing home needs more help, so it’s better for you to go there.”
