Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 387: Chapter 226: Encounter

Hang Menglin’s vehicle was parallel to Luo Ye Xingnong when they had already skewed a considerable distance apart. The instructor driving looked at Hang Menglin for instruction, ”Chief Instructor, do we stop or keep going? Definitely can’t turn left.”

”Stop the car!” Hang Menglin got out of the car, gun in hand, and aimed at the two fleeing figures in the distance.

Xing Nong stumbled and caught sight of Hang Menglin’s actions from the corner of his eye. He felt a chill, ”Luoluo, she looks terrifying, looks like she’s preparing to shoot at us. You don’t think... she’s using live ammo, do you?”

”Could she?” Luo Ye wondered aloud, then immediately pushed Xing Nong in front of himself, ”You run ahead. I’m particularly sensitive to real bullets. If it’s real, I’m sure I can dodge it.”

Xing Nong clung tightly to Luo Ye’s arm, ”No way. I can’t let you face danger alone. Besides, if she really dares to shoot us with live rounds, she won’t get to keep her job. We’re student soldiers, how can she use that kind of tactic?”

”There’s always an exception to everything. Can we really measure her by common sense?” Luo Ye glanced back briefly to see Hang Menglin slowly lifting her gun with a trace of a smile on her lips.

The moment Hang Menglin pulled the trigger, the sensation from that day at Grandpa’s house suddenly returned. A cool feeling at the brow, the view involuntarily skews toward the bullet’s location. Instinctively, Luo Ye pulled Xing Nong towards a safer direction while shouting loudly, ”A ball, it’s live ammo, roll forward, quick!”

”Yes!” In a crucial moment, Xing Nong stopped being picky and followed Luo Ye’s command, which would keep them both safe. However, anger was boiling inside him. How could that madwoman use live ammo?

Setting aside whether she really meant to take their lives, if they were wounded, they wouldn’t be able to participate in the following selection at all.

Luo Ye quickly positioned his gun as if busy, but he was actually using the gun barrel for support to shield Xing Nong as they rolled down swiftly. Bullets flew past, and Luo Ye, with his strong vision, had already realized that Hang Menglin didn’t dare shoot directly at them, merely grazing close to their bodies. This would have scared someone less brave to death.

From this, he also concluded that as long as bullets were fired in his direction, he could definitely sense them. But he would need to further experience how big that range was.

Hang Menglin’s face grew darker by the second, and the two accompanying instructors were clearly trying hard to hold back their laughter. Indeed, she had been confident of scaring the two kids stiff, but instead, they didn’t care about her and rolled away cheerfully. Frustrated, she picked up her gun and chased after them. The two instructors in the car exchanged glances, wondering whether to follow or not.

The instructor in the passenger seat had a better idea, shaking his head, ”Let’s not get involved. Instructor Hang’s actions are not just. According to the rules set by the higher-ups, we should pursue by vehicle and capture as the principle. We don’t have an amulet, so let’s be honest and inform Chief Instructor Ye.”

Ye Mo received the notification from the two instructors and his face reddened instantly. This woman, how does she resemble a qualified commander? She failed to frighten the students, and now she’s forgotten her identity and responsibilities!

Xiao Li, who was assisting Ye Mo, was also furious, ”Boss, that woman is insane. You better hurry over. Xiao Wang and I are here.”

”Lucky I brought you two.” Ye Mo patted the two and hurriedly drove off.

By this point, Hang Menglin was increasingly closer to Luo Ye and Xing Nong, a mere 600 meters apart at most. Fortunately, she had stopped shooting, which was a relief. Even though they knew she didn’t mean to harm anyone, what if a bullet didn’t have ’long eyes’?

”Luo... Luoluo, don’t... worry about me, the ground’s... so soft, too exhausting... I can’t keep up. Female Yama has been in the car, her stamina’s... still strong. Wait, I’ll... I’ll hold her back, I’ll never let go even if it kills me.” Xing Nong gasped, his pace slowing down.

Luo Ye quickly grabbed him, ”Don’t... say useless things. We must... do it together, hold on... Hey? There’s an army coming from up front, down the slope, see that? They’re running directly towards us, quick!”

Xing Nong wiped the sweat-blurred vision from his eyes and indeed, an army troop was running up the steep slope; apparently, they were on a loaded march. The terrain was too low before, and he had not noticed it until now.

Hang Menglin panicked as well. If the two blended into the troop, they would be hard to capture. She regretted her impulsiveness. If she had let other instructors chase after them, maybe the girls wouldn’t have reacted so fiercely, and they might have already been caught.

It seemed she was naturally at odds with these two. She had only wanted to assert her authority early due to the good relationship between Ye Mo and Luo Ye Xingnong. But instead of establishing her dominance, she just made a fool of herself!

”Ye... Brother Ye, it turns out to be your Brother Ye!” Xing Nong exclaimed with joy upon recognizing the tall figure running at the head of the troop.

Ye nodded, ”I saw him. Luoluo, act like we don’t know him, or the one behind us will play dirty.”

”Alright, I wanted... to tell him about Female Yan shooting us with live ammo.” Xing Nong’s face fell.

”We should tell Brother Ye about that matter. Luoluo, we... must adhere to discipline and not turn right into wrong.”

”Understood!”

The moment the two sides crossed paths, Ye Xuan secretly gave them a thumbs up and ran towards Hang Menglin’s direction. The two kids heaved a sigh of relief, proceeded forward with their heads down, drawing the soldiers’ curiosity. It truly showed that the troops Ye Xuan commanded were well-trained; in such a long line, not a single one spoke out of turn.

However, Hang Menglin, after spotting Ye Xuan, reached out to stop him: ”You, did you intentionally run this way?”

Ye Xuan nodded to a lieutenant beside him, who handed over a map: ”This is our training route, you can take a look.”

Hang Menglin scrutinized the map, snorted in disdain, and quickly chased after the group. Ye Xuan bellowed: ”Snake-shaped training on soft sloped terrain, speed up.”

Hang Menglin was so angry she almost vomited blood. Wherever she ran, the team would turn; they were clearly blocking her path. But she had just looked at the training route they had marked on the map, and indeed, this section required snake-shaped training.

Luo Ye and Xing Nong broke away from Ye Xuan’s team and had barely run a few steps when Ye Mo’s car arrived, screeching to a halt. He approached them with an anxious face: ”Are you two alright?”

”Chief Instructor Ye, there’s a problem, there must be a problem. Luoluo and I almost died. Instructor Hang... Instructor Hang actually shot at us with live ammunition. If it weren’t for... Luoluo’s quick thinking, if it weren’t for... meeting Brother Ye’s team, you wouldn’t be seeing us right now.” Xing Nong sat down on the ground and began to sob uncontrollably.

”Calm down, stop crying, get up quickly. We haven’t reached our destination yet.” Luo Ye struggled to pull Xing Nong up, while Ye Mo quickly lent a hand. Looking at the two kids covered in dirt, a look of regret flashed in Ye Mo’s eyes: ”From here, walk downhill and turn right, about 800 meters and you’ll reach the destination. Go ahead, I’ll wait here for Hang Menglin.”

Luo Ye pouted her lips: ”She will say you’re playing favorites and disqualify our scores.”

Ye Mo waved his hand: ”During the selection, not everyone will be blocking you two. The number of personnel blocking each section is pre-arranged. Don’t worry.” He took two bottles of water from the car and handed them over: ”Have some water to quench your thirst.”

”Isn’t this against the rules?” Xing Nong looked uncertainly at Ye Mo, a bit confused from the running, slightly paranoid at this point.

”It’s not against the rules.” Ye Mo waved his hand again: ”Hurry up, Ye Xuan won’t be able to hold her off for long.”

Despite having a multitude of questions in their heart, now was not the time to ask. Luo Ye pulled Xing Nong and quickly left. The journey was smooth, and upon reaching the destination, there were already two groups of people sitting in the courtyard, separated by a small aisle. Xiao Li pointed to the side with only a few people: ”Go over there.”

The two observed carefully and recognized Zhan Hao, Yaoguang, and Ji Sisi. They had vague impressions of the other three but couldn’t remember their names.

”What happened to you two to end up like this?” Zhan Hao and Yaoguang immediately came over to support them and sit down.

”The instructor aimed a gun at us and shot live rounds. If it weren’t for Luoluo’s innate sensitivity to bullets, who knows what you would have seen...” Luo Ye pinched Xing Nong, who quickly changed the subject: ”Imagine the rest for yourselves, enough said.”

Yaoguang searched them for injuries: ”Are you hurt anywhere?”

Xing Nong slapped Yaoguang’s wandering hands away: ”Stop that, don’t take advantage of me. If I were really hurt somewhere, would I be here?”

”How could she do that?” Zhan Hao was infuriated: ”We student soldiers, exceptions aside, have only been training for one month. She’s treating us like veterans, which is too much.”

”Forget it, don’t talk about it. Liu Xing and Wu Zetian are back, and they’ve been hit.” Seeing Liu Xing and Wu Zetian being delivered in a jeep, Luo Ye looked on with sympathy.

The second chance, if never used, would mean a score of 5 points each time. Ultimately, everyone’s ranking would be the cumulative sum of the points obtained during training.

”It must be that kid Wu Zetian’s fault. Just looking at his frustrated expression tells it all.” Zhan Hao shook his head helplessly: ”The guy has been going to the gym since elementary school, and his physical fitness isn’t a problem; it’s just that he’s too impetuous.”

”By the way, was your journey here smooth?” Luo Ye carefully examined Zhan Hao and Yaoguang, who seemed to be quite clean.

Yaoguang spread his hands: ”We have to thank Zhan Hao for that. His flying needles were flying everywhere, I hardly had to lift a finger.”

”Zhan Hao, did you injure the instructors?” Xing Nong asked curiously.

”Nope, I only hit their acupoints. After handcuffing them and pulling out the needles, they could move again.”

Xing Nong looked at Zhan Hao with admiration: ”Wow, I never realized there’s a hero among us. Should I stop learning Flying Knife and start learning flying needle instead?”

”If you really want to learn, I won’t stop you. How soon you master it depends on your own aptitude. Remember, there are over 700 acupoints in the body, not a single error is permissible. Otherwise, if you just prick someone, it’ll only hurt a bit, got it?”

”But from what you’re saying, it seems like Luoluo can definitely master it. Why is that?” Xing Nong giggled, teasing Luo Ye: ”I’m not comparing myself to you, just curious.”
