Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 390: Chapter 228: What’s Going On?

After standing still, Hang Menglin stared at the two for quite a while before saying: ”First of all, I apologize for my behavior today!”

”No... no need!” Mou Ye was stunned for a moment and quickly responded, while simultaneously pinching Mou Nong, who yelped and dropped the basin, pulling Luo Ye back two steps and pointing at Hang Menglin’s location, his face pale: ”Snake! Snake...”

Following the direction Mou Nong pointed, they saw a snake slightly thicker than a thumb slowly slithering over to where Hang Menglin was standing. Hang Menglin bent over, picked up the snake by its tail and shook it a few times, turning the snake into limp noodles.

”Are you afraid of this thing?” Hang Menglin shook the snake in front of Mou Nong.

Mou Nong shrank his neck and took a step back: ”A little... a bit afraid.”

”Let me tell you, when I passed through the no-man’s land back in the day, the most common companions I had were these creatures, and most of them were poisonous!” Hang Menglin said and threw the snake forcefully.

”I’ll try my best to not be afraid.” Mou Nong swallowed and moved closer to Luo Ye.

”Trainees may not like me, but if you were to go through the no-man’s land once, you would understand that my strictness is for your own good.

Now bleeding and sweating is to avoid bleeding and tears in battle, ’always be prepared,’ is not just an empty talk! I admit, I can be a bit aggressive sometimes, but my intention is undoubtedly for your good,” Hang Menglin finished.

Luo Ye Xingnong exchanged a puzzled look, unsure of how to respond or what Hang Menglin truly meant. Softening strategy?

”That’s all I have to say, you can go back now.”

”Yes!”

Despite their confusion, they wouldn’t foolishly ask more. If she let them go, they would leave.

”Were you scolded?” Yaoguang had been waiting there all along and quickly approached them as they came.

”No, you wouldn’t believe it. Not only was there no scolding, but she also apologized to me and Luo Luo.” Mou Nong said, shivering, ”Why do I feel a chill on my back?”

Luo Ye curled his lips: ”That’s because you were chilly from the wind after your bath!”

”Is that true, Luo Luo?” Yaoguang looked incredulous.

”Yes, not only you don’t believe it, even we, the parties involved, are still in a fog. Never mind, we’ll find out the reason sooner or later. Let’s go back to the dorm, it’s almost time for dinner.”

”I suspect, Female Yama was playing the kin card with us in advance. Maybe tomorrow the leaders will come to inquire about the live ammunition situation. Then, she’ll just mention today’s talk—it’ll definitely be like this!” Mou Nong pouted, ”I’ll never speak well of her, even if she truly had our best interests in mind. Don’t push it too far! Why doesn’t she use live rounds on her apprentice?”

”Stop speculating. Let’s deal with whatever comes our way. For now, eating to fill our stomachs is the priority,” Luo Ye replied, picking up the pace. ”There might be a surprise drill tonight. Only with a full stomach will you have strength, understand?”

Mou Nong’s face twisted like bitter gourd: ”No way, after being tired all day, bathing in cold water, and now a surprise drill at night? Do they want us to live!”

”Cut it out, it’s not that bad yet,” Luo Ye poked her forehead, ”You need to rest your mouth and save some energy for training. If you fall behind, see if I don’t smack you!”

Yaoguang nodded in agreement: ”Exactly, she wastes her energy talking!”

”I’m not talking to you two anymore!” Mou Nong huffed and went into the dormitory.

Luo Ye shrugged: ”See, she speeds up when she stops talking!”

Yaoguang rubbed his chest vigorously: ”That dead girl, she’s really strong. It took me a while to catch my breath from that drag.”

”What are you guys doing?” Zhan Hao came out from the male dormitory.

Yaoguang’s face flushed red and she dashed into the female dormitory, leaving Zhan Hao confused: ”We just cooperated, and now she turns her back on me? Luo Ye, why is Yaoguang avoiding me?”

”I don’t know, how would I know about your matters?” Luo Ye smirked and leisurely returned to the female dormitory.

Wu Zetian sneaked a peek and came over with a mischievous smile, studying Zhan Hao who looked helpless: ”Squad leader, got choked by my goddess?”

”What your goddess? She’s my cousin’s, got it?” Zhan Hao curled his lip corner: ”Careful or my cousin will take care of you!”

”Squad leader, we shouldn’t be like this, how did she suddenly become your cousin’s?” Wu Zetian complained, pulling Zhan Hao’s arm relentlessly: ”If you say that again, I’m not gonna acknowledge you, bro!”

Zhan Hao snickered: ”Fine, not acknowledging then. With your slippery tricks, unless Luo Ye has faulty vision, she wouldn’t fancy you.”

”I never expected her to like me back, otherwise how could she be called a goddess?” Wu Zetian clung to Zhan Hao’s shoulder: ”Squad leader, tell me the truth, do you like her too? Are you deliberately bringing up your cousin to overshadow me?”

”Think what you want.” Zhan Hao gloomily brushed off Wu Zetian: ”Dinner’s ready, hurry up and get your food container!”

”Comrade, avoiding isn’t a good behavior...” Wu Zetian grumbled and followed him.

...

After dinner, Xing Nong was forced by Luo Ye to tidy up the interior.

”Luo Luo, that’s enough, I’ve packed my backpack using your method, I definitely won’t slow anyone down.” Xing Nong hugged Luo Ye’s arm ingratiatingly: ”Good Luo Luo, I won’t lose my temper anymore, can the punishment end please?”

”You think I’m punishing you for losing your temper? Your backpack packing is fine, but it’s not like you have to carry it on your back every day.

Your speed in tidying up is up to standard, but compared to the elite selected, you’re definitely the last, not good, keep practicing!” Luo Ye remained unmoved.

”Overbearing!” Xing Nong pouted and continued folding, she didn’t want to listen, but what could she do when she couldn’t beat or outrun him?

Ji Sisi approached: ”Xing Nong, Luo Ye is doing this for your own good, after all, most of the time you still have to fold things. However, I roughly estimate, tonight there might be an unexpected check.”

”I should practice as well.” Upon hearing this, Li Xiaobei hurriedly began working on her own back, and suddenly slapped her forehead: ”If I pack well and don’t open it, wouldn’t that work?”

”What about sleeping? Who knows what time they will surprise check? Can you sleep without a blanket in this season? If you need to cover with this layer, this hard board...” Ji Sisi forcefully patted the large bed space: ”Won’t it kill you? Master the tough skills, that’s stronger than any clever tricks, stop thinking about shortcuts, they’re useless!”

”Little Bei, look how loosely you rolled it,” Luo Ye couldn’t bear to watch, moved next to Li Xiaobei: ”Actually, sleeping in large beds makes packing easier, like this...” Luo Ye knelt at the top of the blanket: ”Press it down with your legs little by little as you roll forward... See, this way it’s small and solid, convenient whether you carry it on your back or put it in a backpack, right?”

”Right! Right! Right!” Li Xiaobei nodded continuously: ”Luo Ye, you’re so smart!”

Xing Nong’s face fell: ”If it was just packing bags, I would have passed a long time ago, why do I still have to fold blocks of tofu, no matter how square and neat it is, it’s still a blanket, its purpose is still for sleeping, round or square, it’s all the same.” Saying this with repeated hand waves: ”Please, don’t lecture me with grand principles, I understand it all, just complaining a bit.”

”At our home, we roll the blankets and mats together in the morning, and when we unfold them at night, the bed is still warm,” Li Xiaobei said nostalgically: ”In my memory, the happiest moments were during winter break, waking up in the morning to nibble on the hot sweet potatoes my mom cooked, along with cabbage stewed vermicelli, that taste, truly nostalgic.”

”Xiao Ruo,” sighed: ”You’re clearly homesick, it’s only been a bit over a month, to taste the flavors of your dreams, still four more months to endure.”

Leaving parents might initially be exciting and thrilling, but after a month, that novelty and excitement were worn away. Coupled with brutal training, their longing for their parents and family deepened, and Xiao Ruo’s words precisely triggered everyone’s thoughts, immediately plunging the room into silence.

Just at this moment, Hang Menglin walked in, scanned everyone, and after pondering the expressions, her brow furrowed slightly: ”This is only the first day, and you’re all like this, look at yourselves in the mirror, do you resemble soldiers at all?”

Everyone: ”...”

...

The anticipated tough treatment didn’t occur as expected. When the wake-up call sounded, the dawn was breaking. After a hurried yet orderly rush, everyone stood in the open area.

Ye Mo and Hang Menglin along with several instructors had already been standing there, all with serious faces.

”At ease!”

Ye Mo scanned everyone: ”From the moment you entered the school, you all became prospective soldiers, after three months of military training, unless there are any accidents, you will have the opportunity to become real soldiers!

Those who pass the preliminary and endure till the final selection will become a special existence among soldiers, this special status is not only in terms of honor but includes training and all other aspects.

Today, you all will face the most special event, that is, on the first day of training, changing the chief instructor and the deputy chief instructor!”

”Ah?” Shock and surprise appeared on the students’ faces, that’s too sudden, isn’t it? Everyone was hoping for Hang Menglin to leave, but they were quite fond of Ye Mo, especially... the female students.

As Ye Mo’s voice fell, a man about 180 tall dressed in special forces camouflage walked out from the instructors’ office, followed by a dozen robust soldiers.

Students were even more stunned. The chief instructor was replaced, and the assistant instructors too, could it be because of yesterday’s shooting incident? But why replace Ye Mo also?

Luo Ye glanced inquiringly at Ye Mo, was it because Hang Menglin reported the incident involving Ye Mo letting her and Xing Nong go, resulting in this punishment?
