Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 354: Chapter 206: Punished

Luo Ye was on medical leave and found staying in the dormitory boring, so she decided to stay in Ye Mo’s dormitory and keep Mrs. Ye company, listening to her talk about her job, Ye Mo’s embarrassing childhood stories, and her students...

Although she had heard these stories before, listening to Mrs. Ye retell them, she didn’t feel bored at all, and the joy of regaining these moments lingered around her.

In the afternoon, around four o’clock, Ye Mo returned with the materials Mrs. Ye had asked for, and seeing the lively chat between the elder and the younger, he couldn’t help but joke: ”Mom, you might as well adopt Ye’er as your daughter, look how close you two are!”

”You silly child, what are you talking about? How can I adopt a goddaughter the first time we meet?” Mrs. Ye sneakily made eye contact with her son, she liked Luo Ye more and more as they talked, although she was young, who knows what might happen in the future.

”That’s true, let’s talk about it later then.” Ye Mo, feeling embarrassed, scratched his head, ”Ye’er, don’t mind me, I often speak without thinking.”

Seeing that the conversation was going too smoothly, Luo Ye didn’t continue that topic but smiled sweetly at Mrs. Ye: ”As long as Auntie likes it, anything works!”

Mrs. Ye had her own little schemes and didn’t pick up on what Luo Ye said, instead, she pretended to take a gourd to pinch a bit and tasted it, immediately frowning because of its bitterness: ”Xiao Mo, go buy another gourd, this is even more bitter than bitter gourd!”

Ye Mo, not believing it, also pinched a bit to taste and embarrassedly smiled: ”I forgot about this, it really is more bitter than a bitter gourd, I’ll buy another one right now.” He walked a few steps, then turned back anxiously, ”Mom, what if all of them are bitter?”

”That’s impossible!” Mrs. Ye pushed her son, ”Hurry up, if you delay any longer we’ll miss dinner, and remember to buy a tender one, definitely don’t bring back one that can be used as a gourd.” After a thought, she added, ”Or maybe buy an old one too, I can cook it and make a couple of slices for use.”

Half an hour later, Ye Mo reappeared in the dormitory carrying two gourds, Mrs. Ye looked them over carefully, and directly pinched one that was crooked, Ye Mo quickly intervened: ”Mom, that one is for making gourds.”

Mrs. Ye looked baffled: ”My silly son, if you’re buying one for a gourd, shouldn’t you get one that’s round and proper? This crooked one might as well roll back to our hometown, how can you hold it steady to carry anything?”

Ye Mo felt wronged: ”Mom, there were only two that could be used for gourds, one with no handle and one crooked handle, the crooked one is still better than no handle, right?”

Mrs. Ye pinched the tender one and tasted it: ”Hmm, this one isn’t bitter.” Then glancing at the crooked one, she shook her head: ”Gourds really know how to grow, taking advantage of my son, huh?”

”Ha!” Luo Ye burst into laughter, the mother and son together were truly a delight to watch, their warm and amiable interactions irresistibly evoked laughter from deep within.

Ye Mo, tickled by Luo Ye’s laughter, looked at his watch: ”Mom, today’s training ends in five minutes, I have to go do the debriefing.”

”Go, go,” Mrs. Ye waved her hand, ”Work is important.”

”Gourds are important too,” Luo Ye chuckled, and Ye Mo, stumbling, turned back to stare at Luo Ye: ”Little girl, don’t you dare mention this in front of Ye Xuan, got it?”

”Are you afraid he’ll laugh at you?” Luo Ye suddenly slapped her forehead, ”It’s over, it’s over, I was so happy to see Auntie I forgot everything... it’s over...”

Mrs. Ye glanced at her son: ”Why didn’t you tell me Xuan was at noon? Should have called him over for lunch, it’s been half a year since we last saw him, I really missed him, by the way, Little Ye’er just mentioned him, what’s going on?”

”You guys talk, I have to rush out,” Ye Mo quickly left.

”Auntie, your Xuan is my chief instructor...” Luo Ye sulkily frowned, her face nearly wringing out water.

...

Just as she was halfway through chopping the filling, Ye Xuan arrived, and Mrs. Ye joyfully greeted him: ”Xuan, Auntie really missed you, kiddo, haven’t seen you for half a year, seems like you’ve grown a lot taller?”

Ye Xuan laughed: ”Auntie, that’s an illusion, how can I still be growing at my age? How have you been?”

”Good, very good, now that you’re here, you can’t leave, you’re staying for dinner tonight, we agreed, right?” Mrs. Ye said while winking at Luo Ye.

Luo Ye ducked her head hesitantly, peeking out from behind Mrs. Ye, grinning sheepishly: ”Brother Ye, hehe...”

Ye Xuan gave her a stern look: ”Be serious, no giggling!”

”Yes!” Luo Ye immediately stood straight, knowing she was at fault.

”Ye’er, did you know everyone was looking for you at noon, couldn’t you have informed everyone before you left?”

”Reporting to the chief instructor, I... I forgot, who... who was looking for me?”

”Don’t worry about who, the fact is they didn’t find you...” Ye Xuan frowned, his eyes showing a hint of anger: ”Didn’t you know Coach Hang was waiting to catch you?”

Luo Ye remorsefully lowered her head, she just unexpectedly met Mrs. Ye and couldn’t bear to leave.

Ye Xuan softened his tone: ”Better now and running around?”

Luo Ye promptly stretched her arms and legs: ”Better now, had noodles for lunch made by Auntie, sweated a lot, all healed!”

”Since you’re so energetic, run 10 laps around the track!”

”Xiao Xuan, you’re joking, right?” Mrs. Ye approached with a smile. ”This child has just gotten over a cold, you shouldn’t make this kind of joke.”

”Do I also need to carry you on my back?” Ye Xuan glowered at the standing Luo Ye.

”Yes!” Luo Ye quickly ran outside.

”Wait! Wait!” Mrs. Ye grabbed Luo Ye. ”Little Ye’er, you’re not really going to run, are you?”

Luo Ye giggled, ”Auntie, there are no jokes in the military; of course, I’m really going to run. I can’t help you wrap dumplings, but when it’s time to eat, I won’t miss a single one. You won’t resent me for reaping without sowing, right?”

”Of course not!” Mrs. Ye anxiously looked at Ye Xuan. ”Xiao Xuan, don’t be too harsh on the girl. I was the one holding her back with conversation, it’s not her fault.”

Ye Xuan shook his head. ”Auntie, it’s her fault. With so many eyes watching, she must be punished!”

”Sigh, it’s all my fault.” Mrs. Ye looked distressed.

”Auntie, you can’t say that. I enjoy chatting with you. Besides, if I slacked off, I have to make up for it, right? I’m heading out.” Luo Ye waved and ran out, while Ye Xuan nodded towards Mrs. Ye: ”Auntie, I’m going as well.”

”Wait a moment.” Mrs. Ye held onto Ye Xuan. ”Come back here for dumplings later; you must come, or I won’t talk to you again.”

”Sure, I’ll come.” Ye Xuan quickly responded.

A hint of a smile flashed in Mrs. Ye’s eyes. ”Go on then, let her run a few less laps if you can. She’s a girl and still weak, don’t train her like one of your soldiers.”

Not long after Luo Ye and Ye Xuan left, Ye Mo returned and glanced around, puzzled at Mrs. Ye: ”Why did Ye’er leave?”

”Xiao Xuan punished her to run laps on the field.” Mrs. Ye sighed: ”It’s my fault for not understanding the situation and keeping her occupied all afternoon, causing her to be punished.”

”No wonder I couldn’t find Ye Xuan either, he came here to throw his weight around. Ye’er has just recovered from a cold, that boy’s being too harsh!” Ye Xuan comfortingly patted Mom. ”You can’t blame yourself, Mom. It’s a good match. Ye’er has been away from home for a while and was fond of seeing her mom. She forgot some matters; after all, she’s still a child.”

Mrs. Ye paused her movements and looked seriously at her son: ”Xiao Mo, I like Little Ye’er.”

Ye Mo laughed, ”Mom, don’t be so serious. I have eyes; of course, I can see you like Ye’er.”

”You silly son!” Mrs. Ye hit her son playfully: ”By saying I like her, I mean you should win her over. I noticed Xiao Xuan likes Ye’er. Since Xiao Xuan can like her, you can too. You’re only a year older than him; age isn’t an issue, is it?”

Ye Mo’s eyes flickered. ”Mom, you think too much. Do you want me to help wrap dumplings?”

”No need, how about I just make a pot of dumpling soup?”

”Mom, you’re underestimating me. We often make dumplings in the team!”

”That’s still not necessary!”

...

After five laps, seeing Luo Ye’s sweat-drenched back and her slightly sluggish steps, Ye Xuan felt heartache. After all, she had just recovered from a cold and still struggled to keep up. Had he known, he would have only punished her to five laps.

At the time, he said ten laps because he was really annoyed by her; making lunch and not being able to find her until the afternoon drill started, not even a trace.

He didn’t dare ask Xing Nong and others, fearing the situation of not finding her might get out, which wouldn’t look good. He spent the afternoon worried and anxious and ventured to Team Five’s office, just to see if Menglin Hang had caught her.

As one could imagine, he faced some sarcasm from Menglin Hang, but that also let him put his mind at ease. As long as she wasn’t caught by Menglin Hang, there was nothing to worry about.

He knew Luo Ye was with Ye Mo because on his way back from Team Five’s office to the field, he happened to meet Xiao Dan from Team Six, who mysteriously reported that Tiger’s mom had come and was accompanied by a beautiful girl looking quite close with Tiger...

He was desperately looking for her, and yet she ran off to enjoy her time under Elder Ye’s roof, totally carefree and unaware!

Moreover, from Menglin Hang’s tone, it seemed she had seen Luo Ye and Mrs. Ye together. Thus, just to be cautious, he felt he should still punish her.

But ten laps seemed really too many; after a thought, he decided to run behind Luo Ye, quietly consoling, ”If Ye’er is tired, slow down a bit. Brother Ye is also doing this for your own good.”

Luo Ye nodded: ”I know. I don’t blame you; it’s my mistake. Please don’t run behind me. It makes me uncomfortable!”

Ye Xuan was puzzled: ”How does that create a shadow?”

”Do you want to punish me and let everyone envy me?” Mou Ye pouted. ”Handsome men are a disaster!”

”This...” Ye Xuan touched his cheek, his looks were not his choice?
