She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 797: Chapter 833 Trial

Sun Gan was like a mute who had swallowed bitter herbs and found it hard to speak.

Su Hai looked at the Phoenix manuscript intently, the more he read, the more satisfied he became. Now that he was in charge of culture, he had to make achievements. The stagnant publications had to take new steps to keep pace with the times in this era of reform and opening up. If one couldn’t lead in progress, they would vanish within it.

Su Hai’s vision was always sharp, and he strived for innovation to make a political mark. Now, the Phoenix novel in front of him marked the beginning of his innovations, and One Weekly was his experimental field.

Among so many cities in the nation, he was determined to make the city’s culture and sports far surpass the rest of the country and become a beacon of the era’s progress.

Su Hai flipped through the manuscript in his hand over and over again, and a rough plan of operation had already taken shape in his mind.

A month later

Today was the day Shen Yu would be sentenced, and the death penalty was inevitable. The General Union court officially began proceedings at eight in the morning, and before it even started, many leaders had already arrived at the scene.

Even Su Jiang from the Southern District had come, followed by Qin Yue. The solemn doors opened, and the leaders stepped in, with Chairman Meng clad in sharp attire, his chest adorned with so many medals it was dazzling.

Qin Yue, walking behind Su Jiang, hardly knew where to look.

“Don’t gawk around.” Su Jiang said, annoyed.

“Where’s President Meng? Why don’t I see him?” Qin Yue asked in a low voice.

Upon hearing this, Su Jiang’s gaze swept over the room subtly, noticing not only was Meng Xingzhi absent, but Hai Yunfeng hadn’t arrived either. The Shen and Hai families were relatives by marriage, and for such a significant event, the province had issued a notice requiring the attendance of all senior leaders to serve as a warning. It was to sound the alarm for each leader, to ensure no future missteps.

“He should have come with the older leaders.”

Qin Yue understood; the Meng family patriarch had come in person. After all, he couldn’t just swallow the death of his own grandson!

“President Meng, may I go see Shen Yuxing?” Qin Yue whispered, “The Living Yama hasn’t come back yet, and I’m worried. Perhaps I could get something out of Shen Yu.”

Su Jiang hesitated for a moment, “Go ahead! But be careful not to cause any trouble.” For a whole month, they had tried various means to forcefully cross the Heihe river, but unfortunately, they lacked the strength.

Xu Qigang had left in a hurry, not even properly equipped, and his fate was still unknown, which was worrisome. Luckily Ningning was busy performing with the Song and Dance Troupe, not having the energy to investigate. If she had stayed in the General Union, she might have noticed something amiss by now.

Su Jiang found Ningning to be alarmingly intuitive, a promising candidate for rescue. Why had she chosen to join the Song and Dance Troupe?

“Alright! Don’t worry, I’ll keep a low profile,” Qin Yue gestured a salute and slipped away undetected.

Qin Yue had already located the temporary Detention Room where Shen Yu was held before his arrival, and after navigating down the corridor, he reached the last room.

“Who’s there?” someone challenged as he approached.

Qin Yue sternly took out his and Su Jiang’s identification and handed it over, and after a quick glance, the guard stepped aside.

“Thank you!”

Qin Yue walked unhindered into the interrogation room. Upon opening the door, he saw a row of iron bars, and through them, he spotted Shen Yu, handcuffed.

Having been imprisoned for a month, the current Shen Yu looked nothing like his former self. His hair was shaved close to the scalp, his figure emaciated, and at just over thirty, his back was already slightly hunched.
