She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 795: Chapter 831: Let Him Wait

Sun Gan stood, dumbfounded, as he watched the two figures gradually disappear from sight and didn’t recover for a long while. This was the first time someone had dared to make the Vice President wait!

He had postponed many matters, and had already been waiting for Sheng Ning for half an hour before finding her.

Sun Gan returned alone to the reception room where Su Hai was already drinking his second cup of tea.

“Still haven’t found the person?”

“No!”

“She refuses to come meet me?” Su Hai set down his teacup, chuckling involuntarily, “This girl, does she hold a grudge that much?”

“She was about to meet you when suddenly a friend of Captain Xu arrived, and she went to meet her friend first, asking you to wait.”

“Wait for me?” Su Hai grew furious, “I was here first, and I’m still made to wait? Who is it? Who could be more important than her own uncle?”

“I don’t know!”

“This is too much.” Su Hai stood up and walked out, “Come on, let’s see who this person with so much influence is. Ever since I was transferred, some people just don’t take me seriously anymore.”

Sun Gan muttered under his breath, Who would dare not to take you seriously? The current head of the Inspection Department is as timid as a mouse in front of you. The only person who might disregard you would be your niece.

Su Hai, familiar with the path, found the General Union Dance Troupe. From afar, in the outdoor resting area, he caught sight of Sheng Ning’s back. This girl stood out too much; she was always the center of attention, and passersby couldn’t help but steal glances.

Finding her was too easy.

The man facing her looked familiar. It took Su Hai a moment, then he remembered—he was Shangguan Tao. The last person Xu Qigang had seen before losing contact was him.

“Are you Shangguan Tao?” Sheng Ning recalled that the Living Yama had told her if she ran into trouble, she could seek help from Shangguan Tao, whom he absolutely trusted.

“What can I help you with?”

“I was executing a task with our captain before. I returned first, so the captain asked me to check on you.” Shangguan Tao had been hesitating whether to visit Sheng Ning all this time.

Before they parted, the captain’s words still echoed in his ears. It had been ten days, and he had not returned, which made him increasingly worried. Zhou Hong told him that the captain’s wife called every day. To prevent her from worrying further, he decided to explain things in person.

“He’s okay?”

“He’s fine, just very busy, and there’s no signal there, so he couldn’t call you.”

“Then I’m relieved!” Sheng Ning smiled, “By the way, I left lots of food at home before I left. Since he isn’t home either, you can let Liu Chun take out all the food and distribute it among everyone. Liu Chun has the spare keys.” Jerky and sauces, which stored well, didn’t need to sit unused. If necessary, she could make more whenever he returned.

“Okay!” Shangguan Tao, catching sight of the ill-intentioned Su Hai from the corner of his eye, smiled. “Well, sister-in-law, you’re busy, so I’ll head back now.”

“Take care then.”

“No need to see me out.”

Now knowing the Living Yama was okay, Sheng Ning felt much more relaxed. After seeing Shangguan Tao off, she turned around and saw Su Hai standing elegantly under the basketball hoop with his hands in his pockets, exuding a refined demeanor.

The Su Family all had good looks, and Su Hai, in his early thirties, looked dashing rather than aged. But his staying single and not dating at his age—could there be a problem?

At this thought, she gasped, covering her mouth, her bright eyes moving suspiciously up and down.

Could it be he preferred men?
