She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 780: Chapter 816: A Vicious Tongue

She felt at ease, it was just a visit to see a patient, and she intended to treat it as a normal occurrence.

“Chen Huaying, let’s buy some fruit before we go in! It’s not quite proper to visit a patient empty-handed.”

“Sure!” Chen Huaying didn’t care much; her relationship with Meng Ping was actually not bad. Had it not been for that incident last time, she might have visited earlier. Many people in the compound wanted to visit him, but they hesitated out of consideration for the Su family’s face, feeling embarrassed to do so.

If Sheng Ning visited today, then when she went back and talked about it, many would want to come. After all, Meng Ping had grown up in the compound, the camaraderie still existed.

Meng Ping might be a scoundrel, but he had his limits, never offending people to death, which is why he got along well with everyone in the compound.

There were many little shops opposite the hospital, catering specifically to the relatives of patients. Sheng Ning paid for some fresh fruit and also got canned goods, which the little fat man carried as the three of them headed to the inpatient area.

Meng Ping was staying in a top-tier ward, using Meng Xingzhi and Chairman Meng’s names. When they arrived at the ward, the little fat man knocked on the door from the outside.

“Come in!”

To her surprise, it was a woman’s voice—Sheng Ningyi recognized it as Su Yun’s. She didn’t want to see Meng Ping, and even less so Su Yun. Now that these two people were together, they could be counted among the people she least wanted to see in her lifetime.

She instinctively fell back, wanting to hide yet was tightly held by the little fat man.

“We’ve come all the way to the door; if you pop in to say hello and leave, I wouldn’t mind.”

“…”

Chen Huaying pushed open the door to the ward, and there was Su Yun indeed. She wasn’t in formal attire today, dressed in black homely clothes that looked somewhat grim.

Sheng Ning stood at the back, completely obscured by the little fat man. Su Yun did not see her at first, but instead, her eyes fell upon Meng Ping, lying on the bed with eyes tightly closed, clearly looking much haggard.

Sheng Ning felt a kind of pleasure from revenge, her tranquil heart suddenly boiling with emotion. A whirlwind of chaotic thoughts flooded in, making her feel slightly unstable on her feet.

This meeting felt as if it had been separated by two centuries, two lifetimes so long. Sheng Ning suddenly let go, and her muddled feelings gradually stilled, gazing at Meng Ping. There was no longer the love and hate from a past life, no more the refusal to deal with each other in this life. He was, to her, the brother of her husband’s friend, a relative from her grandfather’s side.

That was all.

“Hey? Auntie Su Yun, you’re not at work today?” Chen Huaying was startled and quickly said her greetings.

Su Yun’s face darkened instantly, “What are you saying, girl?”

Little fat man sensed trouble and quickly whispered in Chen Huaying’s ear to explain, “She’s retired!”

“Retired?” Chen Huaying didn’t know before that Su Yun had retired, but now she saw no reason not to kick someone while they were down. She had never liked Su Yun back in the General Union Dance Troupe, and after Su Yun had repeatedly bullied Sheng Ning, her dislike only grew. Now that she had the chance for payback, she would be a fool not to take it.

“Auntie, so you’ve reached that age! It’s good that you’ve retired, now you can just stay home and take care of your grandchildren. Let Bai Tian’e, your favorite daughter-in-law, give you a big fat grandson.”

Little fat man couldn’t bear to look; Chen Huaying was truly venomous with her words, unbearably so.

“You little bitch, say that one more time?” Su Yun was infuriated, moving to twist Chen Huaying’s ear, but Chen Huaying deftly avoided it. Poor little fat man behind her wasn’t as lucky, his face turning red from the twist.
