She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 774: Chapter 809: Must Offer Help

”I’m really looking forward to stripping Chairman Shen of his clothes.”

”You’re too bold!”

Lu Yuan really wanted to speak up for his old buddy, but he thought better of it. You like to be arrogant and proud; look how bad your personnel are. Now you see?

”Call the Rescue Association for me, I need to find Shen Feihu.”

”Yes!” The communicator used a direct line, and after connecting, said, ”Hello, I am from the Research Institute... Yes, yes... Okay!”

”What’s the matter?” Lu Yuan asked, puzzled.

”Dean, Chairman Shen has already gone.”

Everyone in the meeting room was shocked to their feet, hands bracing on the table as they stared wide-eyed at the communicator, startling him into dropping the phone with a clatter.

”I heard that the War Wolf Rescue Team Leader and the captain of the fourth squad are missing! That’s the only news we’ve been able to find out.”

”Living Yama is missing?” Now, there was no staying calm.

”We must go and help too.”

”Yes! Dean, our Research Institute owes Living Yama more than a hundred lives!”

”Dean, please give the order! Our Research Institute must give the Rescue Association a hand.”

Not only the administrative department was unsettled, but even the Vice Dean and the Executive Director couldn’t stay calm.

Lu Yuan stroked his chin. The situation was unclear now. He couldn’t be like Shen Feihu, that hothead, charging in without thinking.

”Call the provincial-level Rescue Association for me, inquire about the situation.”

”Yes!”

The phone connected, and Lu Yuan personally picked up the receiver to speak, ”Inquiring about the Rescue Association’s sudden action, do you need assistance? Alright... Yes... We are on standby at all times.”

After hanging up, everyone looked eagerly at him.

”Dean, what did they say?”

”Did you get in touch with Chairman Meng?”

Lu Yuan nodded, ”I did. The Rescue Association is on a secret mission.”

”No way? Why do all the good things always go to the Rescue Association?”

”We’re so left out; the Rescue Association gets the meat, and we don’t even get a chance at the soup.”

”It’s so painful just to watch.”

”Dean, why didn’t you argue with Chairman Meng?”

Lu Yuan, with a headache, said, ”Obey orders, meeting adjourned.” He turned and walked out immediately, the Executive Director hurriedly following him upstairs.

”Old Lu, our President Meng is actually undertaking such a big operation; there must be some hidden information we don’t know, right?”

”All we can do now is to be ready to support at any time.”

”Yes!”

It wasn’t just the Research Institute that got the news; the Shen Family did too. When Father Shen received an urgent report from his subordinate, it took him a long time to recover.

”Leader? Are you alright?”

Father Shen stared blankly for a moment then quickly regained his composure. ”What’s the situation now?”

”The War Wolf Rescue Team has taken control of the quadrangle; now, not even a fly could escape.”

”So quick!” Father Shen’s hands were clasped behind him, his heart anxious, ”Meng Xingzhi is really ruthless with this move!”

”Who would have thought that President Meng, always so gentle and elegant, could make such a sudden move—revealing the tough character he truly is,” sighed Father Shen. He had known Meng Xingzhi for many years; how could he not understand his personality?

Like leader, like follower. If he weren’t ruthless, how could he have pried away his most capable lieutenant from Su Jiang’s hands in the face of losing a son in middle age?

Father Shen was secretly shocked that he’d let Meng Xingzhi grow so strong under his own watch.

”Where is Shen Yu now?”

”At the quadrangle!”

”What?” Father Shen finally lost his composure, ”What’s he doing there? He rarely goes to that place, doesn’t he?”

”I’m not very clear on the specifics; Shen Yu has been going there frequently lately.”

”That bastard, he must be hiding something from me.” Father Shen slammed his hand on the table, the glasses clinking softly, which in the oppressive study sounded exceptionally alarming.

”What are we to do? Now that Shen Yu is trapped inside, it’s impossible for him to get out. Should we step in to rescue him?”

”No need!” Father Shen slumped into his chair, ”With Meng Xingzhi lashing out like this, using such force, anyone’s attempts to intervene would be useless! Besides, if others dare to target him so openly, they must have something on him.” This son had always been his pride, the future hope of the Shen Family.

Since when had this son begun to acts so paranoid, so gloomy? Father Shen had a vague feeling that something was wrong, but it was already too late. He, as a father, had put so much pressure on his son from a young age, then was surpassed by Meng Fan, probably hiding his distress despite appearing fine on the surface. The men of the Shen Family had always been proud; how could they allow others to press down on them?

Understanding the pain in his son’s heart, he had turned a blind eye. Later, when Meng Fan died, he thought his son would let go but only became more paranoid, eventually getting involved with Meng Fan’s fiancee.

He had thought that was the worst it could get, but now it seemed there was much more.

Shen Yu, oh Shen Yu, how much trouble have you brought to the Shen Family?

”Leader, this... isn’t it a bit too much? Shen Yu is your only son.” The subordinate was incredibly alarmed, ”I think it would be better for you to intervene; we can’t allow others to bully us.”

”No!” Father Shen waved his hand off, ”Without my permission, no one is to get involved!”

”...Yes!”

The subordinate left, and the phone in the study rang. Father Shen picked up the receiver, trembling.

An aged voice came through.

”Father!” Father Shen apologized on the phone, respectfully and with shame, ”I have brought disgrace to our Shen Family.”

”You haven’t lost face, but our iron-blooded loyalty.”

Old Mr. Shen’s voice was old; his body was no longer what it used to be, and he rarely meddled in affairs from his rural retreat. Now that he had made this call, it was evident that the situation had disturbed him.

”I’m sorry, father; the fault of a parent’s neglect is mine, I have been careless.” Father Shen was filled with regret. His only hope now was that Shen Yu wouldn’t commit a serious breach. But he knew if it weren’t a significant issue, would Meng Xingzhi need to mobilize such a large-scale operation?

”By your account, I’m also to blame for the fault of a parent’s neglect. I’m about to die, and I’ve lost both face and heart. How will I face the leaders, my former leaders?” Old Mr. Shen’s words made Father Shen’s eyes moisten.
