She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 776: Chapter 812: Something Big Happened

There was no one in the Trade Union Dance Troupe Dormitory, Sheng Ning filled a hot water bag and pressed it against her belly, wrapped in a quilt sitting on the bed, writing Phoenix’s novel. Soon, Wu Youli also arrived, her hands carrying a pack of brown sugar.

“Here, this is from the General Union; they asked me to bring it to you.” Wu Youli placed the brown sugar on the table, considerately asking, “Do you feel any better? Let me make you a cup.”

“Thank you!” Sheng Ning hadn’t expected Yang Wenyin, the stern and strong woman, to be so attentive, “How come you’re back too?”

“My ‘relatives’ have visited too,” Wu Youli shrugged helplessly, “but I’m not in as much pain as you.” ‘Relatives’ was just a euphemistic way of speaking, for rural girls are shy, always using ‘relatives’ to refer to it, so everyone understood.

“When I was a kid, I was ignorant and had no one to teach me. I got sick because I was greedy for the cool in the summer.” Thinking about her childhood, the vague memories suddenly became clear.

At that time, Shen Luhua had just married in not long ago; she really disliked this stepmother. About girl matters, her mom taught her, but she wouldn’t listen and even acted defiantly, which over time led to her experiencing agonizing pain every menstrual period.

Sheng Ning guessed she might have a cold uterus and planned to ask Huo Yan to take her to a doctor after he was done with his busy work, hoping that maybe she could get pregnant soon.

Wu Youli prepared the brown sugar water, placed it on the table, and returned to sit on her bed, slowly flipping through a book. Being naturally quiet, just give her a book and she could stay silent for half a day.

The dormitory area had become more lively, with voices occasionally coming from outside.

“Why are so many people back in the dormitory?”

“The General Union gave everyone on their period a day off, and a third of the people left,” Wu Youli covered her mouth and chuckled softly, “I find it strange, our periods didn’t use to sync, how come now it seems like everyone’s aligned?”

“Uh… I heard it’s contagious?” Sheng Ning remembered somebody had mentioned in her previous life that girls living together for a long time could sync their menstrual cycles.

“By the way, do you think something big is happening at our union? When I came in, I saw large trucks loading people in groups, and even though it’s important practice, it’s never been this grand. Each comrade was holding a weapon, it scared me so much I hurried back here. Could it be a war? Or has an enemy spy infiltrated our civilians’ group?”

Sheng Ning also thought it was strange, but none of them, being newbies, would be informed of such matters. All she could do was worry.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the dormitory door.

“Could it be Dabao coming back? She wouldn’t be visiting her ‘relatives’ too, right?” Wu Youli muttered as she went to open the door; to her surprise, it was Chen Huaying.

“Oh? You’re here!” Wu Youli was delighted, “Haven’t you started school yet? I envy people who have winter vacations.”

“Yeah! School starts in a few days.” Chen Huaying pushed past Wu Youli and ran inside, only to find Sheng Ning sitting on the bed, which almost blew her mind. “You’re still in the mood to sit here?”

“What happened?” Sheng Ning held her cup, sipping the brown sugar water slowly. The water was too hot to drink quickly, yet if left to cool, it wouldn’t be effective, so she just held the cup and talked while sipping, “What happened?”

“Your union is fully mobilized; isn’t that big news?” Chen Huaying snatched the cup from her, “Hurry, come with me; there’s a big issue.”
