Bear School Astartes

”This is unreasonable!”

Lann and Little Jack crouched in the woods by the roadside, complaining as they watched the Barbaric Jaws Dragon lift its head, vigilantly scanning its surroundings.

The Demon Hunter’s face was expressionless, even twitching at the corners.

Though now, they had a rough idea of how this Barbaric Jaws Dragon was different from its kind.

But this ”difference” was precisely the source of Lann’s speechlessness.

Just by using its hip bone to ram a tree, it managed to develop the muscle dimensions of its entire leg beyond bodily balance... what’s going on?!

Training is an activity that requires knowledge, planning, and execution.

Blindly working hard without absorbing knowledge or communicating with others, thinking that one can achieve results by just practicing diligently, is merely a story after all.

And this is also the source of the significant disparity in limits and lower limits among intelligent species within their groups.

Because unintelligent species cannot undergo high-efficiency training, although there are differences within their groups, in most cases, they are not as vast as heaven and earth.

And the degree of disparity in the quality of members within intelligent species, depending on talent and learning resources, can vary greatly.

Now, the strength of this Barbaric Jaws Dragon’s leg, if compared to humans...

It’s akin to: an ordinary person suddenly hires a world-class fitness coach one day and puts all their effort just into training one leg.

The effect of its leg training is simply not on the same level as the standard line of its species!

”Is it very unreasonable? I think it’s okay.”

Little Jack accepted it with ease, looking as if ’this shouldn’t be considered exaggerated’.

The whole ecosystem is outrageously prosperous, and the monsters’ vitality is strong enough to disdain steel.

Hence, a monster that randomly practiced itself into form due to its abundant vitality, Little Jack wasn’t unfamiliar with such situations at his age.

The time this Barbaric Jaws Dragon stayed on this road clearly exceeded the normal time needed to patrol its territory.

So the two of them could easily understand that this unusual Barbaric Jaws Dragon... its mind was now likely full of revenge!

Scholars from the Star Base once told Lann that the brain volume of large monsters is considerable.

Although the structure is not as complex as that of intelligent species, they generally possess about the intelligence of thirteen- or fourteen-year-old humans.

And those ancient dragon species, called ’calamity’ or ’god’, even their minimum estimated brain intelligence is ’no less than normal humans’.

Therefore, harboring vengeance, patrolling back and forth on the roads where past enemies appeared, hoping for another encounter... this is a logical level that large monsters can achieve.

And anyhow, this revenge from the Barbaric Jaws Dragon was unavoidable for Lann.

He even needed to proactively confront it.

After a long time, Lann began preparing for battle as a Demon Hunter.

He poured Enhanced Dragon Beast Oil onto the broad blade of [Turbid Flow].

The blackened blade became glossy as a result.

Following this, [Enhanced Thunder] and [Enhanced Blizzard] also entered his mouth.

Kneeling in a meditative state, his muscles involuntarily twitched due to the poison, causing him to subconsciously stiffen his neck and twitch the corners of his mouth, the air he exhaled faintly carrying a scorching white mist.

To this day, he could endure the toxicity of these two Magic Potions with ease, but the reaction caused by the poison entering the body was physiological and typically uncontrollable.

The toxic Magic Potion entered the bloodstream from the digestive system, then gathered all the way up to the face of the Demon Hunter.

His flesh turned pale, with slightly dark eye sockets.

In this world, the strong vitality and wild, natural power of the monsters provided Lann a thrill akin to the days when he was youthful and dared to challenge formidable monsters.

That’s why he made full preparation.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Little Jack also made his own preparations for battle.

First, he ate a red fruit, followed by a fruit that looked the same but was yellow.

Then he pulled out a bottle of yellow potion, but hesitated for a moment and didn’t drink it, instead putting it back into his pouch.

Lann was already familiar with those things through his immersive learning during this time.

The red Monster Seed could draw more power from the Hunter’s muscles and bones, equivalent to a natural stimulant. But because it was an unrefined, unintegrated raw plant, the extraction level was not high.

Under the physique of Hunters, the aftereffects could be entirely ignored, merely a few more heavy breaths needed.

Lann had always wanted to integrate the medicine power of this plant into [Thunder] to see what would happen.

The yellow Tenacity Seed, similar in principle to the Monster Seed, had the effect of making the Hunter’s muscles and tendons instinctively tense, enhancing the ability to withstand blows.

The yellow potion might be an energy drink or a Stamina Potion, both able to help Hunters maintain longer activity times during high-intensity work, albeit to varying degrees.

Because those two potions look very similar, Lann couldn’t distinguish them by sight alone.

”Why didn’t you drink that potion?”

Suppressing the slight muscle twitching brought on by the poison, Lann stood up and softly asked. Overall, the Demon Hunter looked normal aside from the toxin-affected pallor of his face.

In contrast, Little Jack appeared much more strained.

His skin was flushed as if sunburned, sweat dripping down from his scalp onto his forehead, panting heavily.

”My body is already at its limit... with my endurance, if I drink the Stamina Potion, I might go straight into a feverish state.”

Using temporary state-enhancing supplies equated to the battle being urgent beyond delay.

So with no further words exchanged, the two picked the closest spot to the Barbaric Jaws Dragon and immediately charged at it from the dense forest by the roadside!

The battle between Hunters and monsters often escalated to an intense state in unexpectedly short moments.

The prosperity of nature here is indeed real, but simultaneously, internal struggles in the natural world become more intense.

Vicious and explosive, it seems to be most monsters’ innate temperament.

The Barbaric Jaws Dragon, which was initially grinding its fangs on a rock, slightly wrinkled its well-developed nostrils first, then heard the clanking of armor pieces colliding during a sprint and looked over.

And those reptilian vertical pupils, the moment they caught a glimpse of a human figure...

”Roar!!!”

The vertical pupils in those eyes shrank into a slit in an instant under the excited emotions!

The roar exceeded a normal human’s eardrum tolerance, unleashed by the monster’s massive lung capacity.

Even for a Hunter or a Demon Hunter, ordinarily, one wouldn’t train their eardrums.

If not for the distance factor lessening the roar of the Barbaric Jaws Dragon, Lann guessed that they would both have needed to cover their ears first before dealing with its roar.

However, the moment they met, immediately entering a state of rage, the Barbaric Jaws Dragon’s fury actually made Lann see an opportunity.

He instantly altered his initial charge path, splitting off to the side with Little Jack.

As expected, the Barbaric Jaws Dragon, driven by revenge, almost without considering, immediately focused most of its attention on Lann.
