Bear School Astartes

Faced with the Sword Master’s reminder, Lann seemed more ’amused’ than ’alarmed’.

[Qi]puts internal pressure on the body, limiting the combined use of various techniques.

To Hunters, this is a natural phenomenon.

But Lann is different.

”Internal pressure of the body... what do you think, Mentos?”

Walking up the wooden stairs of the stars, the Demon Hunter began to communicate with his bio-computer.

”When you use the [Qi] technique, internal pressure indeed increases. Specifically, it manifests as persistent muscle fatigue, accumulation of stress in the bones that cannot be released, abnormal fluctuations in hormone levels across various organs...”

Like reciting a menu, Mentos, using an English butler tone set up by Lann, reported the internal anomalies of Lann’s body when using the [Qi] technique.

’Increase in internal pressure’ is actually a very general statement, but Mentos, relying on its powerful computational ability, materialized this general statement into various physiological indicators for Lann’s reference.

The conclusion reached was indeed quite similar to the Sword Master’s explanation.

If the techniques of several hunting weapons are mixed, chain reaction-like bodily symptoms will occur.

For example, muscles would dissolve before they reach their limit.

Bones would become fragile and brittle due to the inability to release internal stress. If external impact triggers the internal stresses of the bones, this type of bone would even explode like a grenade when fractured, causing greater harm to the body.

The consequences of hormonal imbalance are even more unpredictable.

However... these apply to ordinary people.

While most Hunters’ performances can hardly be called ’ordinary’, that’s only regarding their physical toughness.

In terms of ’multi-functionality’, Hunters are still in a very ’primitive’ stage.

”Based on the data obtained from [Deep Memory Dive]...”

Following Lann’s command, Mentos began incorporating new parameters into its computational model.

The Demon Hunter pinched his chin with his index finger and thumb, revealing an intrigued smile.

The collision between biotechnology and martial arts, both fields he has great interest and talent in, made him feel anticipation.

”Input the data of [Inner Steel] to tackle muscle abnormalities and bone stress anomalies.”

[Inner Steel], also known as [Tendon Coil]. It is an implantable, self-proliferating mechanical device.

It can accurately distribute within the recipient’s internal muscles, strengthening the recipient’s defenses while significantly increasing their muscle power.

In Mentos’s computational model, the icons representing ’muscle dissolution anomaly’ and ’bone internal stress anomaly’ were swiftly smoothed out when [Inner Steel] was introduced into the calculation.

The importance of biotechnology to Lann lies in: he can accurately identify where the problems in his body are and make targeted adjustments.

No longer needing to, like Hunters in this world, rely solely on instinct to avoid the damages brought by approaching the limits with [Qi] technique.

”Input the data of [Holy Chant Gland] to manage hormone imbalances.”

Lann continued.

[Holy Chant Gland], a cerebral membrane used to secrete and regulate hormones, substantially enhancing other advanced organs within the body.

The integration of the two source organs into the calculation allowed Mentos’s computational model to run smoothly in an instant.

”Calculation complete, sir. As you expected, the limitations of Hunters’ [Qi] for your future ’multi-functional’ advanced organs is not an unmanageable drawback.”

Lann’s lips curved into a satisfied smile.

But then, that smile froze with Mentos’s next words.

”Of course, how far into the future, who knows, right?”

The bio-computer’s tone was as pretentious as ever, but Lann, having been with it for a long time, could immediately tell.

This was: Mentos had met Mentos—specializing in ’taking the fizz out’.

With a ’snap’, Lann immediately tossed the task of constructing the original casting organs to the top of Mentos’s task bar.

Although he had gotten the method to create the original casting organs through [Deep Memory Dive], figuring it out under the condition of being detached from Empire technology still had many hurdles to overcome.

In an instant, the bio-computer that was originally relaxed, even humming carefree tunes, had its computing power completely drained, devoted to analyzing these advanced biochemical organs.

”It’s not...sir...we, we must have... some misunderstanding!”

Amid Mentos’s stuttering defense, Lann gave a cold chuckle.

”No, I don’t think there’s a misunderstanding.”

The Demon Hunter’s pronouncement was as merciless as a demon’s: ”Overtime begins now, Mentos. Enjoy it!”

A few days later, Lann had thoroughly learned the basic techniques of fourteen weapons.

These techniques were initially designed to be simple, straightforward, and convenient for Hunters to use and spread, with their ceiling being pulled up entirely by the Hunter’s personal experience and quality.

The difficulty of the technique itself wasn’t much.

At noon, using the [z] he earned during this period, the Demon Hunter ordered a nutritious grilled meat set from the Weapons and Mountain Cat Pavilion.

He and Wende, Aibo, had previously received a request from the head chef to find specialty fungi in the ancient forest.

Once the task was completed, many new dishes were added to the Weapons and Mountain Cat Pavilion’s menu.

It seemed the head chef used these specialty mushrooms as seasoning ingredients.

However, this also prompted Wende and Lann to mock.

Isn’t it that the people from the previous four period teams were a bit too focused on work?

Tasks like ’increasing cafeteria dishes’ which could greatly enhance life quality were still one-star collection tasks.

They only resolved tasks like these after the Fifth Period Team and the people from the other world arrived, what’s going on?

While complaining internally, Lann arrived at the circulation area on the first floor of the Star Base.

At the edge of this area, near the exit of the base, was a small hill made up of various books.

And the old man from the Douding Dragon Race of the ecological research institute, as usual, was sitting contentedly reading on top of the book hill.

This was the place where Lann came to quickly catch up on the intelligence regarding the world’s monsters.

With the enthusiastic Gaffi’s introduction, Lann could complete the task of organizing books with his own strength. The reward for the task was the scholars’ answers and explanations.

It must be said, although this world seemed to be in a relatively affluent medieval state.

These scholars, just discussing knowledge in the field of natural ecosystems, were likely far surpassing ’modern’ levels.

After all, the natural world here was extraordinarily magical.

”Yo, you’re here, Lann.”

The old man from the Douding Dragon Race slowly raised his head and fixed his glasses frame.

If it were the just-arrived Lann, he might still believe in the other’s ’esteemed director of the research institute’ role without a doubt.

But now...

”’Taming a Bubble Fox Dragon in Another Way’... truly rare, last time I saw you, the main character was still the female Rathalos.”

With quick and precise moves, Lann swiftly snatched the book sandwiched in the other’s grasp before the director could react.

On the book cover, a charming Bubble Fox Dragon depicted with deliberately pink atmosphere was gazing seductively at a young Hunter with broken equipment.

Lann couldn’t help but purse his lips and closed the book.

”Director, I remember... brightly colored Bubble Fox Dragons... are all males, right?”

The Demon Hunter looked with disbelief at the still unperturbed director of the ecological research institute.

”The evolution speed in dragon romance can be this fast?!”

”What nonsense are you talking about, Lann. This is research.”

The director’s words, matched with that aged yet serious face, appeared as if he really abandoned society’s vision and devoted himself to research.

...If one could ignore his actions trying to sneak the inappropriate book from Lann’s hand.

”Humans are just a part of the ecosystem, researching this obviously wrong XP is also ecological research!”
