Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1242  How Dare He?

Sylas felt the world spin around him as he spiraled through the air. As many thoughts as he was sparing to try and get out of this was about as many as he was sparing trying to figure out how it was possible for the Duchess to be this powerful.

He was certain that with his improvement, even if he couldnʼt defeat the Duke in a head-to-head battle without the use of any tricks, he could at least hold his own.

But if his daughter was so powerful, then how could that have been true?

Sylas wasnʼt arrogant without reason. His sense for the strengths of the Demons had dialed in well over these last few days.

Ebison had stats that were easily in the six figures by Earthʼs standards, but they wouldnʼt be more than 300,000 or so.

The Duchess he also felt he had pegged quite well. She was over half a million in average stats easily.

There was no doubt that she was about double Ebison in raw strength and power. And if her Skills were added on top of that, crossing the 700,000 barrier in power output wasnʼt impossible.

They were strong, but when it came to the best of the Sector, like the Leava Clan genius with just over a million in Combat Matrix Index alone—let alone the rest of his actual stats—they should still be inferior by a good margin.

If he extrapolated what he knew about the Duchess, he felt that her father was probably over seven figures in average stat points, but wouldnʼt be so by that much.

Of course, this was using Earthʼs metrics. By the Sectorʼs standards, Sylas believed that this would put the man at four-digit stat points on average.

However, the power the Duchess was using now was off the charts. In fact, she was more like what he assumed her father to be like.

Was this their Unique Gene? A Skill more powerful than he expected? A Gene Class of some sort?

It wasnʼt as complicated as any of his Skills, it didnʼt seem to be some broken Comprehension, it was just straightforward, raw power…

And that made it especially difficult to deal with because there was no weakness to poke at.

As if that wasnʼt a big enough problem, she wasnʼt the only Sanguara here. Maybe the Duke had had his hands tied because of his True Name being spoken, but there were still three others.

It was just that in the Duchessʼ fury, her rampage had made everyone get out of the way. She didnʼt seem like she would be satisfied until she ripped Sylas apart with her own hands.

She appeared before him again, raising her hands up and clasping them together. She slammed them down from

above, her Strength abruptly skyrocketing once again as she tried to crack every bone in Sylasʼ body.

BOOM!

Sylas grunted, his body bending in the wrong direction as his back was struck. He shot down from the skies so fast it looked like a line was being drawn between the clouds and the ground below, explosions of air rippling out in violent concentric circles of combusting wind.

The Duchess bared her teeth, claws extending from her long, slender fingers. Her eyes seemed to become even redder, foggy crimson extending from the corners of her eyes and the soles of her feet.

She had never felt so much rage in her life. Every

embarrassing memory was like another knife through the heart, and every one caused another violent cycle of blood to rampage through her body.

Her cells began to overturn faster and faster, and the impurities that Sylas had put inside of her seemed to be quickly dissipating through the bloody fog emitting from her.

Sylas didnʼt even have the presence of mind to see this, nor was he close enough to do so even if he so wanted.

However, one thing was quite clear… the technique that he had gone through so much trouble to create, even at the expense of his own moral struggle and internal dilemma, seemed like something that the natural healing factor of the Sanguara could do all on its own.

The faster her heart pumped, the more fury she felt, the stronger she seemed to become.

BANG!

She stomped another foot, realizing that maybe she had gotten too angry. If Sylas hit the ground like that, there wouldnʼt be anything left of him to target.

But he was moving faster than she expected.

She closed the distance rapidly, reaching out as they pierced through the clouds toward the ground below.

Her hands almost grasped Sylasʼ collar. But then…

BOOM!

He hit the ground.

The Duchess hurried to cross her arms before her face, the explosion of earth sending out shockwaves in all directions.

As though a nuclear bomb had just gone off, there was first a collapse, then a violent upward propulsion, before it all spread out far and wide.

Cascading browns and blacks, stone crumbling to ash, an uproarious ruckus of bombarding soil and collapsing trees.

Everything seemed to be covered in the destruction.

The Duchessʼ body flashed with crystalline diamond as though a thin layer and sheen of protection had shielded her from most of the damage.

But almost the instant she could, her arms unfurled and she landed with a violent stomp, looking toward where Sylas had landed, only to find that there was nothing there.

Her legs bent and she leapt over, landing at the center of the crater. She began to dig with her hands, her claws so effective that large swaths of land were ripped out.

She wanted to see something, anything left of his body. A piece of bone, some real flesh, and that she did find.

But it wasnʼt enough. Where was he? Where was he?!

The Duchess roared in fury again, her banshee-like shriek peeling across the skies as though formed from its own bolts of lightning.

Even if he was going to die, he had to suffer first. How dare he die so easily?
