Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1230  Legend

This wasnʼt what Sylas cared about, not in the slightest. The idea that he would need help to get revenge against her father, or even that he had spared the man more than a fleeting thought since what occurred, was little more than a joke.

Sylas wasnʼt someone who got angry very easily, and when he did get angry, it was usually because of confounding events that took place over quite a long period of time.

That was all to say that if he was going to get angry, it needed to be something that was actually worth his energy, and a petty man ”protecting” his daughter wasnʼt anywhere near Sylasʼ list of priorities.

To Sylas, to be angry at someone required him to think that they were on the same level as he was. Even when he killed Lucius, it was more about wiping the smugness off the Grimblade family, and the weight of a Silver Demerit, than the man himself.

Others might think that Sylas was nursing a grudge against the Duchessʼ father, but in action…?

Sylas hadnʼt spared him a thought since he left the dining hall. In fact, to Sylas, the man was little more than a pawn—a pawn that would bring his daughter right to his door.

In the days that he had been here, Sylas had come to understand quite a bit about the nature of Demons and how they worked. Family ties, loyalty, and the various structures that upheld the societies Sylas was familiar with didnʼt work as usual here.

It was why he didnʼt hesitate to kill someone who likely had close blood ties to Ansla, and it was why he knew the Duchess would choose her attraction to him over any loyalty she felt for her father.

Of course, that also meant that if a better Sylas came around, the Duchess wouldnʼt care to remain loyal to Sylas either.

But that was also why the Duchess had mentioned Ansla.

In the world Sylas was used to, Ansla wasnʼt here because she was loyal to her family and father and didnʼt want to see them suffer.

In this world, however, she wasnʼt here because she didnʼt want to ruin her own bottom line and felt that Sylas was more of a danger than an asset to her.

What the Duchess didnʼt know was that Ansla believed that Sylas was of a Race no weaker than the Sanguara. So the calculations she was making were actually far more delicate than the woman before Sylas now knew.

But what mattered the most was… this was exactly the outcome Sylas was waiting for.

So he stood there, crossing his arms across his chest as though he wasnʼt basically naked. The Duchess herself didnʼt seem to notice either, her gaze still trying to read his own.

”Good,” she finally said. ”Have you heard of the golden pillar?

Do you know of the legends?”

”What legend?”

”I didnʼt expect you to know. Itʼs mostly a guarded secret, one that only my Sanguara Race knows the full extent of, but weʼve allowed some of the others to catch small tidbits.”

Sylas silently noted this matter. He didnʼt know a lot about the Demon Race, but what was obvious was that the

Sanguara were on a tier all to their own.

The question was if this meant that they were the main threat he needed to clear to get out of here or not.

If the goal was to kill the Duchessʼ father, or even all of the Sanguara, then… it would be tricky.

The man was truly powerful. Though Sylas could start thinking of some countermeasures against him—maybe

paying the Madness Key to give him some understanding of their weaknesses—helping Megean to clear this would be nigh impossible unless he forewent everything and became E-tier right here and now.

Part of Sylas wanted to hope that this wasnʼt the case, but what were the odds? It would make perfect sense if a realm that Old Brama was so worried about had exactly this sort of impossible task.

If Sylas was correct, the Sanguara were probably the equivalent of a D-Grade Race. No, he was probably selling them short even then. They might be infinitesimally close to C-Grade.

For some reason, they were capped at E-tier in strength here, but he couldnʼt complain about that considering that was the only reason he was even still alive right now.

”The truth is that the golden pillar signifies a challenge of the Gods. Our legends tell of Golden Champions, known to spread their light through our lands, curing the world of the ʼscourgeʼ they believe our Demon Races to be. In the distant past, it was these Golden Champions responsible for our fall and decline, relegating us to various pockets and dimensions within the universe rather than being in our true and rightful place.

”This world is capped and we can only progress to Level 100 as a result, and we have no system to rely on and could only improve using the most ancient of methods.

”However, it is said that the appearance of a Golden Champion comes with a chance to ascend to a higher world where our restrictions will be lifted.

”If we can one day climb through all of the ranks, ascending to the highest world and breaking the chains of the S-tier, then we can finally leave this world and lay waste to the universe, claiming what is rightfully ours.”

Sylasʼ eyes flashed.

”Suppressed?”

”Yes. It isnʼt just the tier of our strength, but even our Race.

My Sanguara Race tells of our roots, tales of our pinnacle where we ruled mountains, rivers, and seas as not a D-grade Demonic Race, but an S-grade one.”

Sylasʼ eyes narrowed.

He had felt that there was something wrong with the Duchessʼ Race, but this… this was not what he was expecting in the slightest.

Never did Sylas expect that his first interaction with an S-grade Race would come like this.

Just how powerful were the Sanguara at their pinnacle? And who could have possibly sealed them here?

And if it was the Gold Lineage, then how the hell had the Unitaur, Aurans, and others fallen so far too?
