Eternal Thief

Chapter 1417: The Chained Item

Damien gave Ace a meaningful look, and he couldn’t refute Ace’s words. Just as Ace said, despite Ace backing down, Damien won’t trust him so easily. In fact, it would have been strange if Ace had done that, and now that he had proposed this plan, Damien was happy to comply.

After all, Damien wasn’t here for the cultivation technique or the mystic abilities; he wanted the item. If Ace wasn’t here, he wouldn’t mind taking them, but since that wasn’t the case now, and Damien was afraid of alerting the Wealth King, he conceded to Ace’s demand.

Moreover, if he could win the loyalty of a Heaven Chosen like Ace by just giving up those two items that were useless to him, it would all be worth it. Not to mention, Damien still needs to get out of the PHW King Sect before the Wealth King notices this, and he knows she will notice it very quickly after he took the item. He had already made arrangements, so all that was left was to achieve his objective.

”Sounds good.” Damien nodded in agreement before he moved towards the chained item.

Ace headed towards the scripture slate, both of them keeping their distance.

But at this moment, Ace suddenly questioned, ”By the way, what is this item exactly? How could the PHW King Sect leave it in this place for so many years?”

Damien remained silent for a moment before he said, ”Leave it here? Heh, it’s not so simple. This item is the part of this Law Legacy, and without getting acknowledged by it, it’s impossible to take it away. To create a Law Legacy, one needs to be at least a Transcendent Being, an expert far more terrifying than an Ascension King.

”As long as one does not meet the full requirements of a law legacy, it’s impossible to take everything unless someone stronger than the law legacy creator takes action.

”The PHW King Sect might’ve acquired the Scripture and even the Mystic Ability Perceptions, but as long as they can’t meet the full requirements set by the owner of this law legacy, they can’t take away this item. As for what this item is, you don’t need to know.”

Ace was startled by this information as he looked at Damien before he asked another question, ”Then doesn’t this mean those Law Legacies within the other five Top King Sects of the Mortal Ascension Heaven are the same as this one?”

Damien didn’t deny this statement and nodded, ”They should be. But as I said, it’s not easy to acquire the recognition of a Law Legacy. You could do it here and reach this level because the Prosperity Law acknowledged you, but it might not be the same for another law legacy, unless you are the Son of Heaven! Now, stay quiet and let me concentrate!”

’Tsk, tsk, did he have to flaunt this fact every time? Don’t tell me he has some kind of superiority complex? Did I have it as well?’ Ace couldn’t help but think as he closely observed Damien.

At this moment, Damien suddenly reached out with his hand as if he wanted to grab the item, which was wrapped in chains and shaped like a glob of chain.

But a profound aura suddenly emitted from the chains, and the next moment, a terrifying pressure descended in the entire legacy space. Even Ace was affected by it and barely able to stand.

”Hmph! Dare to refuse the mercy of Justice! Be obedient!” Damien sneered coldly. The next moment, a brilliant golden scale symbol appeared on his glabella, and the pressure released by the chained item was instantly suppressed.

Ace couldn’t help but feel apprehensive about that pressure, as he had already experienced it once when he had just arrived in the Mortal Ascension Heaven. Now, he was sure that Damien was really Heaven’s Advocate.

Damien’s entire body was emitting a golden brilliance as he reached out again, and this time, he was able to touch the chains. Seemingly pleased, Damien suddenly started to chant something, and under Ace’s astounded look, kaleidoscopic runes suddenly appeared around Damien.

The next moment, those symbols suddenly shot towards the chain like shooting stars, and every time each symbol touched the chain, it trembled violently. But the terrifying, profound power within the chain seemed to be weakening.

’Just as I expected, he came prepared for it. But it’s quite clear that he wasn’t acknowledged by that item; instead, I felt a vague reasoning with it...’ Ace’s eyes flickered with a hint of thievish intent as he silently observed Damien.

At this moment, the runes stopped the moment the final chain trembled violently, then shattered into golden motes.

The pressure that had wrapped the chained item finally relented. The ’glob of chains’ hanging in the air cracked—not like metal, but like laws being rewritten.

When the final rune burst in a silent flare of golden light.

A deep, resonant hum echoed across the legacy space, not heard by the ears but by the soul. The chains wrapped around the item writhed like sentient serpents caught in judgment. Then—snap.

One by one, the ethereal chains shattered—not with violence, but with authority. Each link dissolved into glimmering threads of value essence, evaporating into the golden mist above.

From within the unraveling, it descended slowly and regally. It was a ruler!

An antique design like a measuring staff, approximately one meter long, forged from a mysterious blend of platinum and jade. Its surface was smooth and metallic, but symbols shimmered beneath its skin—unreadable glyphs that shifted between glamming constellations, symbols, barcodes, and runes of arithmetic.

On one end was a quill-shaped nib, inked with stardust, as if this ruler had once written the value of everything.

On the other end, a blunt square tip bore a sealed sigil which was exactly like the law of Prosperity sigil, but more profound.

Along its length, segments were marked, but not with numbers. Each division pulsed with shifting golden lines, occasionally replaced by strange visions.

When Ace laid his eyes on it, even without touching it, Ace felt its pressure.

”...A ruler?” Ace muttered, narrowing his eyes. ”No... that’s not just any treasure if that guy wants it so badly...!”
