Eternal Thief

Chapter 1409: A Strange Encounter

At this moment, Ace was finally able to break free from the suction force, and the surrounding darkness vanished. But when his vision settled, he was dazzled by the luxurious golden hall.

”Steward...?” Ace was bewildered as he called, but he couldn’t complete his sentence when he suddenly noticed a regal woman in a faceless mask sitting on an imposing throne and staring at him with a hint of subtle amusement.

The moment he locked eyes with her, his mind seemed to suddenly come to a standstill, as if falling into an illusion. But almost instantly, the Holy Twilight Spirit Qi in his body circulated on its own, and he instantly returned to his senses.

Ace instantly averted his eyes, as his back was already drenched in sweat. He no longer dared look at her, but his heart was beating wildly because he couldn’t perceive her with his sharp sense, as if he were one with her surroundings.

’Who is she!?’

”Oh?” Prosperity Matriarch seemed somewhat surprised, before she spoke impassively, ”You are Ace?”

Ace suppressed his urge to escape and replied respectfully, ”This disciple is indeed Ace. May I know who the senior is?”

Prosperity Matriarch didn’t answer. Instead, she questioned, ”Who do you think I am?”

”I don’t dare to be presumptuous enough to guess your exalted identity.” Ace politely responds while keeping his head low.

Although he couldn’t guess this woman’s identity, given what had just happened, he was sure she was terrifyingly powerful—so powerful that he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to react if she decided to make a move.

’Could she be...?’ A terrifying thought surfaced in his mind as he sweated.

But this only made him even more disquieted, and the abruptness with which he was pulled back from the mission and then dragged to this place made him know this matter was anything but simple.

Prosperity Matriarch looked at Ace deeply before she commented impassively, ”At least you know your place.”

Ace’s heart beat wildly, but he remained respectful and submissive, secretly ready to pull his avatar back.

At this moment, ”Is this the other one?” a man’s gruff voice rang with a hint of curiosity.

Ace was shocked because, at this moment, he glanced in the direction of this voice and saw a tall, handsome middle-aged man in a golden robe with long white hair standing right beside Prosperity Matriarch’s throne.

But this mysterious man wasn’t there a moment before, and Ace felt his presence wasn’t any different from that of the woman. Both were unfathomable.

Prosperity Matriarch nodded in affirmative without saying anything. At this moment, Ace suddenly felt a terrifying law sense locked on him, ripping past his spiritual defenses, probing his very foundation and soul!

Ace was shaken because, despite the Avatar of Holy Twilight’s Ascension Warrior cultivation, even Ascension Lords might not be able to break past his defenses, especially so easily.

Furthermore, this act was considered extremely rude and like stripping others naked while probing others’ secrets. Moreover, if other cultivator foundations were weak, this could directly maim them, yet this man didn’t even hesitate to do it. Killing intent rose in Ace’s heart, but he didn’t show it and endured while gritting his teeth.

Prosperity Matriarch didn’t stop this man, but she seemed to observe Ace’s reaction closely.

The middle-aged man’s eyes shone profoundly before a hint of disappointment surfaced, and he finally retracted his law sense.

He commented dismissively, completely ignoring Ace, ”He seems ordinary compared to the other one. But there is indeed something extraordinary about his soul and cultivation. I guess he’s born with a special soul-type, fantastic physique.”

Ace wanted to curse, but he was suicidal enough, and he had already remembered this grudge in his heart.

’What other one is this bastard talking about?’ Ace instantly picked up those important hints while he pretended to be out of breath as if he was in shock.

Although this wasn’t his main body, his mind was the same, so it didn’t affect his mental state much. If this were his real body, Ace knew this man wouldn’t be able to break past the system’s defenses.

The Prosperity Matriarch also ignored Ace, looked at the middle-aged man, and said, in a gentle tone, ”This is the chance we’ve been waiting for. Go and make preparations. I’m entrusting you with a very important task; don’t disappoint me.”

The middle-aged man appeared ecstatic and quickly reassured her, ”Don’t worry, Matriarch! Wait for my good news.”

The next moment, the middle-aged man turned into a golden streak and vanished from the hall like a ghost.

”As for you...” Prosperity Matriarch finally looked at Ace and waved her finger on the throne handle, and the next moment, a golden ethereal sheet filled appeared in front of Ace, ”Sign this Law Constant, and you’ll be promoted to a Core Disciple of my sect. All the resources will be available to you, and I’ll also assign a Prosperity Elder to instruct you in your cultivation.”

Ace was startled by this sudden boon. Given how easily this woman decided something like this, her identity was more or less confirmed, making him even more shocked. At the same time, he was wary, especially after what that mysterious middle-aged man did.

He glanced at the ’law contract’ and when he saw the words on it, his eyes contracted because those words weren’t in the language of Mortal Assassin Heaven.

If it were someone else, they wouldn’t have been clueless, but Ace wasn’t just anyone, and he instantly comprehended the content of that contract. When he read the few lines, Ace suddenly wanted to laugh aloud, but kept his expression in check.

Ace pretended to be excited, and without any hesitation, he bowed deeply towards Prosperity Matriarch as if moved by her favor.

”Thank you for your acknowledgment! I’ll work hard and won’t disappoint you!”

Prosperity Matriarch thought little of Ace’s reaction since, in her eyes, it was only natural for someone like Ace to be moved by this sudden windfall. After all, the position of a core disciple of the PHW King Sect was extremely prestigious.

Without any delay, Ace signed the law contract, and the next moment, it turned into a streak before vanishing into his glabella.

But something shocking happened the moment the ’law contract’ was signed. A golden rune suddenly appeared on Ace’s forehead, and the same rune surfaced in Prosperity Matriarch’s eyes.

The next moment, that rune vanished before Prosperity Matriarch nodded and waved her sleeve, sending Ace away.

Prosperity Matriarch muttered at this moment, ”Calamity or blessing, I shall prevail!”
