Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Which wretched bastard played dirty tricks on me?

The man grunted, ”Which little punk blindsided me?”

Yunyi, hearing herself called a ”punk,” gave him another whack on the back with the stick. ”How dare you come to my territory and spew nonsense? You really need to be taught a lesson.”

The first blow with the stick was only meant to stop him, but the second was enough to make him suffer. His internal injuries wouldn’t be light. Still, Yunyi was averse to trouble. She had controlled her strength perfectly, ensuring he wouldn’t cough up blood on the spot and ruin her image.

Just then, the people chasing from behind caught up and quickly subdued the man. ”Comrade, you’re quite bold.”

Yunyi raised the stick in her hand. ”I had no choice. I had to defend myself and ensure the safety of the patients being treated here.”

Soon, the other intruder was also subdued, and both were swiftly taken away. The man walking last presented his identification to Yunyi. ”We’ve taken them away. We’ll need you to cooperate with our personnel tomorrow to give a statement.”

Yunyi nodded. ”Of course.”

Once those people had left, the doors to the two central patient rooms opened. ”Doctor Chu, that was terrifying! What just happened?”

Yunyi didn’t elaborate. ”The public security officers were handling a case just now. It’s all over. Everyone should get some rest.”

She said that, but she knew very well that if the public security officers hadn’t pursued them, those men wouldn’t have spared anyone in the clinic. Those people were probably frightened by the recent commotion. Seeing Yunyi was reluctant to say more, they all tactfully closed their doors and returned to their rooms.

Worried about Guo Anyi, Yunyi hurried to his patient room. She saw the small boy hidden under the blanket, shivering slightly, and her heart ached for him. She quickly approached. ”Don’t be afraid. It’s me.”

Hearing the beautiful doctor’s voice, Guo Anyi suddenly threw off the blanket and clung to Yunyi. ”I’m scared!”

Yunyi hadn’t expected him to throw himself at her like that. But feeling the child tremble, she hesitated only for a moment before hugging him and comforting, ”It’s alright now. The bad men have been caught by the public security uncles.”

She gently patted his back, repeatedly assuring him, ”It’s alright now.” It took a long while for the child to calm down.

Just then, the public security officers who had left earlier walked back in. Seeing the situation in the room, one asked, ”Comrade, is the child alright?”

Yunyi already knew when they returned. It seemed her hunch was correct: those two men were after this child. Yunyi nodded at them and deliberately asked, ”Is there something else you need?”

The public security officer looked at the child in her arms. ”We will stand guard here tonight. You can both rest easy.” He said this so the child would hear it and feel safe enough to sleep peacefully.

Yunyi looked down at the now-calm Guo Anyi. ”You heard him. This public security uncle will be on watch here tonight, so you can rest easy.”

Guo Anyi felt a bit embarrassed and said in a tiny voice, ”Sorry.”

Yunyi helped him lie down and tucked him in with his blanket. She then took the thin top quilt from his bed and also fetched another quilt from a different bed, layering it on top of him. ”Sleep now.” She had a bad feeling. The boy had already been badly frightened from falling into the water, and then he was terrified again just now. She feared he wouldn’t escape a fever tonight.

Guo Anyi was now very dependent on Yunyi. Although he knew it wasn’t right, he didn’t want to let go of her. Having no alternative, Yunyi soothed him softly, ”I won’t leave. Sleep peacefully.”

Perhaps Yunyi’s comfort worked, or perhaps his body and mind simply couldn’t take any more. After a short while, Guo Anyi fell asleep. Even in sleep, he didn’t let go of Yunyi’s hand.

Yunyi only managed to pull her hand away after pressing his sleep-inducing acupoint. After tucking him in properly, she turned to the public security officer behind her. ”The child had a terrible fright today and might develop a fever. Please keep a close watch on him. If anything happens, come find me in the front office immediately.”

Having given all necessary instructions, she left for the front office.

Meanwhile, in the neighboring Zhang Family Village, all of Guo Shuiyu’s in-laws were taken away by the public security officers, including the young children in the family. This event greatly alarmed the village cadres and the neighbors from Zhang Family Village who had come out to see what the commotion was about.
