“Oh, Director Lin, why are you here?”

In terms of administrative rank, Lin Yi was inferior to Ding Wenjun.

However, he knew very well that in the entire Dongsan County, other than Wang Yunjiang, Lin Yi had the greatest say.

Without him, Dongsan County wouldn’t be what it was today.

“Principal Ding, who is this?”

Seeing Lin Yi suddenly barge in, Liu Baoguo felt a little confused.

“This is Lin Yi, the director of Dongsan County’s Office of Poverty Alleviation.” Liu Baoguo nodded subconsciously. He was an educator and this man was from the Office of Poverty Alleviation. The two of them had nothing to do with each other.

He was probably here for something else.

“Principal Ding, Director Lin is probably looking for you for something else. We won’t disturb you anymore. As for the matter just now, I’ll have to trouble you to appeal to the higher-ups. We’ll wait for your updates at home.”

“Let’s go,” Ding Wenjun said coldly.

“Wait, don’t go yet.”

Lin Yi stopped Liu Baoguo.

“Director Lin, why are you looking for me?”

“It’s not a big deal. I just want to verify the situation with you.” Lin Yi smiled.

“I heard you’re asking the county to raise salaries to 4,500 a month, plus five insurances and one housing fund, is that correct?”

“Yes, I think my request is not excessive; it should be considered the most basic requirement,” Liu Baoguo said with conviction.

“The request isn’t high, after all, in cities like Zhonghai and Yuhang, the salary has reached 6,000 a month, and they also provide five insurances and one housing fund.”

“Huh?”

Liu Baoguo was a very smart person. He immediately understood what Lin Yi meant.

“Director Lin, what do you mean by this?”

“I just want to tell you that once the situation in Dongsan County improves, we can probably raise your salary and provide the requested beenfits,” Lin Yi paused before continuing.

“But right now, with the county’s economy just beginning to recover. A salary of 3,500 a month plus three types of insurance is already quite good. There’s no need to fixate on the immediate benefits.”

If possible, Lin Yi really wanted these people to stay.

After all, there was only one school in the county. Primary schools, junior high schools, and high schools were all here. The teachers had always been in a shortage. It would be very difficult to cover the entire area with the people he had found.

Hearing that Lin Yi was here to persuade him, Liu Baoguo’s expression changed.

“This is our baseline requirement. I’ve already told Principal Ding just now. Director Lin, don’t try to persuade us. If we are short a single cent, we won’t work here anymore.”

“Can’t you consider it for old time’s sake?”

“You might not know, but 1 am the only outstanding teacher in the county.

Many schools have tried to recruit me, offering salaries around 5,000. It’s only because of my loyalty to the past that I haven’t left. Even coming here to negotiate, I’m only asking for 4,500 a month. Haven’t 1 done enough?”

“That means there’s no room for negotiation.”

“Yes, precisely.”

Lin Yi turned around and looked at the twenty people outside. “Are you all in agreement?”

“Yes, 4,500 yuan a month, plus insurance and house money. If we are short on any one of these, we won’t work here anymore.”

Compared to Liu Baoguo, the teachers waiting outside clearly have lower emotional intelligence, lacking even the basic ability to speak bureaucratically. “Alright then, since there’s no room for further discussion, you might as well pack up and go home.”

“Let’s leave today’s matter here, but it would be best if a decision could be made quickly. Several schools are contacting me, and if there’s no result within a week, I’ll have to leave.”

“You don’t have to wait a week, just leave now,” Lin Yi said.

“What do you mean?”

“Isn’t it obvious? It’s impossible for the school to offer such conditions, and you won’t relent. There’s an irreconcilable conflict between the two sides, so you can only resign.”

Resign!

Hearing these words, the 20-odd teachers outside the door panicked.

This was because they did not want to resign at all. They only wanted to fight for more benefits for themselves.

If they really resigned, they would have no income in the future. How could they support their families?

Liu Baoguo saw the commotion and said unhurriedly,

“If the county can’t meet our minimum conditions, there’s no point in working here. Everyone, pack your things and leave.”

Everyone’s gazes landed on Liu Baoguo. They realized that he was looking at them as he spoke. He probably had other intentions.

The teachers understood tacitly. As expected of Teacher Liu. He was putting pressure on the principal.

“Let’s go, let’s pack up. Earning so little each month, it’s meaningless to stay here. There are so many schools out there; it’s easy to find one that pays better. No need to waste our time here.”

The crowd hurriedly left, returning to their offices to pack up, acting like they were prepared to resign.

“Director Lin, why are you…”

Seeing that Lin Yi had chased these teachers away, Ding Wenjun panicked a little, but he didn’t dare to say anything.

Lin Yi shrugged and said,

“I didn’t want to do this either. But they don’t want to stay in school anymore. What can I do?”

“Do we really have to fire them?”

“What else? Can the county offer that benefits package?”

“But if they leave, the school won’t be able to hold any classes.” Ding Wenjun said awkwardly.

“This is not a big issue for most of the students, but the fourth and third-year students are about to take the middle school and college entrance examinations. We can’t delay this for even a minute.”

“Don’t worry, Principal Ding. I’ll help you resolve this matter.”

“Resolve it?”

“I helped you bring in 32 outstanding teachers from Yuhang City. All of them are experienced and are willing to stay in the school for a long time.” Lin Yi said.

“I can’t comment on their standards, but I think they should be much better than the ordinary teachers in this school.”

“You brought in outstanding teachers from Yuhang?”

Ding Wenjun’s expression was shocked, as if he had heard something unbelievable.

“He called me just now and said that the bus has arrived in the county.” Lin Yi looked at his watch.

“I gave them the location of the school. They should be arriving soon. Let’s go out and welcome them. We have to show them ample respect.”

“Alright, alright, alright. Let’s go out and take a look. We can’t neglect them.”

In the teachers’ office, Liu Baoguo and the other teachers did not pack their things. Instead, they gathered together.

“Teacher Liu, are we really going to resign? I’m still relying on this salary to support my family.”

“What are you panicking for? Why are you so impatient?”

Liu Baoguo calmly lit a cigarette, as if everything was under his control.

“If we really resign, what will happen to the fourth and third-year students?” “Can’t we do a fake resignation? There’s no need to pack our things, right?” “No, we have to clean it up. We have to put on a good show,” Liu Baoguo said. “When no one goes into the classes, they will be dumbfounded. They will definitely look for us.. After this, won’t we have successfully increased our salary?”
