“I feel that this request is a little too much,” Xiao Bing interjected.

“Although Dongsan County’s economic level has improved, it has only reached the level of an ordinary county. For the teacher, a package of 3,500 yuan plus three insurance is already not bad.”

Lin Yi and Li Qingkai thought so too. They felt that their demands were a little high.

“What does the county think?” Lin Yi asked.

“We can’t possibly agree to them. Otherwise, the people from the other departments will definitely complain, and we might as well pack our bags and leave.”

“Alright, I’ll go take a look.”

“Hurry up and go. You’re capable and have many ideas. See if you can resolve this matter. Secretary Wang is losing hair over this.”

Lin Yi laughed. “Then I really have to help. It won’t be good if he ends up like Xie Guangkun.”

“That’s right. Let’s go and take a look.”

After chatting with Li Qingkai for a while, the two of them drove to school.

When they arrived at school, Li Sijin was waiting outside the door.

“Brother Lin, you’re here.”

“You knew we were coming?”

“Brother Li told me.”

Lin Yi nodded and introduced the two of them to each other before walking towards the campus.

“How’s the situation in the school?”

“Let’s not talk about it. There are more than 20 teachers in the office negotiating with the principal.”

“Is it like this every day?”

“This happened a week ago, and then they all took leave to go home. To get the children back in class as soon as possible, the relevant leaders discussed it and decided to increase their salaries by another 100 yuan. So, they were all called to the school today, and they are discussing it inside right now.”

“Who’s leading this?”

“There’s an outstanding teacher in the school, Liu Baoguo, who led the uproar,” Li Sijin said. “Otherwise, it wouldn’t have escalated to this extent.”

“There are outstanding teachers in this place?” Xiao Bing was surprised.

“If they really had such ability, they could easily find a job in Yuhang City.”

“When I first came here, 1 thought the same. But over time, I realized that this title doesn’t hold much value. It’s a quota given by the higher-ups, one per school, so it was given to that teacher.”

“Alright, I understand.” Lin Yi said.

“Let’s not talk about this for now. Lead the way. I’ll go in and take a look.”

“Okay.”

Like Li Qingkai, Li Shijin had an inexplicable confidence in Lin Yi.

She felt that once he made his move, he would definitely be able to succeed.

In front of the principal’s office, more than twenty men and women were standing around. Most of them were old, and the youngest was already in his forties.

These people were all teachers of the school, accounting for more than 70% of all the teachers employed here. This was a large proportion of the faculty.

“How long has it been? Why haven’t we reached a conclusion yet?” A short-haired middle-aged woman said.

“Don’t be anxious. Let’s take our time. As long as we continue to strike, the school will have to suspend classes. The initiative is in our hands. Thus, I’m not in a hurry,” said a bald man.

“They are truly bullying us. The conditions in the county are continuously improving. The other departments have already received a raise, but they won’t give us a raise. They’re clearly treating us as fools.”

“Isn’t that so? Them even said that he would reimburse us at a later point. Who would believe them!”

“Our original salary was 2,800, and it took a lot of effort to raise it to 3,500. With the soaring prices in the county, how is that money enough? If it’s not raised to 4,500, we’ll all resign collectively and see what they do!”

“Yes, it’s settled then!”

At the same time, there was a heated discussion in the office.

The principal and dean of the school were all gathered inside.

There were two people sitting on the sofa, a man and a woman. They looked to be in their fifties.

The man’s name was Liu Baoguo, and he was the only outstanding teacher in Dongsan County.

The other woman was called Zhang Chunlian. Although she was not an outstanding teacher, she was the most experienced one.

The two were the elected negotiators discussing terms in the principal’s office.

“Teacher Liu, Teacher Zhang, the county has already decided to give you another 100 yuan. 3,600 yuan a month is already the limit.”

The person who spoke was the school’s principal, Ding Wenjun. His hair was white at the roots, making it obvious his hair had been dyed back.

“Principal Ding, the situation in the county is getting better by the day. In the end, they only gave us this bit of money. Isn’t it too little?” Liu Baoguo was unmoved and insisted.

“Our demand is 4,500 a month, and we must have the five insurances and a housing fund. We won’t go any lower.”

“But do you know that the highest salary in other departments of the county is only 3,800? A monthly salary of 4,500 will bring you up to that of a division-level official!”

“You simply can’t compare it like that,” Zhang Chunlian said.

“Over the years, the number of teachers in schools has been decreasing year by year. One person has to teach several classes, and with such a high workload, it’s normal for our salaries to be higher than theirs.”

“But according to the regulations of the municipal education bureau, the salary for ordinary teachers at the county level is fixed at this amount, and we’ve even added an extra 100 yuan on top of that. This is already really good,” Ding Wenjun said.

Liu Baoguo sighed and pretended to be troubled.

“As the saying goes, the capable do more work. 1 don’t think such a request is too much. Moreover, with such a salary, we can’t explain it to the other teachers outside. I hope Principal Ding can think of another way. It hasn’t been easy for us either. After working in school for so many years, we already have feelings for this place and don’t want to leave.”

Ding Wenjun’s face was cold. He knew very well what these people were thinking.

He made it sound so nice, but if this was ancient times, it would be considered a rebellion!

“But that’s all we can offer. I hope you’ll consider it carefully. We’ve been colleagues for so many years. Can’t you give me some face?”

“We’ve already talked at length. If I were by myself, I’d agree.” Liu Baoguo said.

“But like I said just now, there are more than 20 teachers outside. The two of us are here on their behalf. Even if I agree, they won’t. Principal Liu, why don’t you talk to the higher-ups and fight for some benefits for us? We’re all trying to make a living here.”

“If I can fight for it, I wouldn’t waste my breath here. I really can’t give you that much.”

“Sigh…”

Liu Baoguo sighed. “I didn’t expect it to come to this. Then we can only resign and go to other schools.”

Liu Baoguo and Zhang Chunlian got up from the sofa and prepared to leave.

They knew very well that they had the initiative in this matter and had to seek benefits for themselves.

Therefore, they had to put pressure on the school. If the school didn’t agree, the students here wouldn’t be able to attend any classes!

In the end, the school was the one who would be forced to compromise!

Crack!

At this moment, the office door was pushed open, and Lin Yi and the other two walked in.

“Why are you already leaving? Have you already reached an agreement?”
