The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 176 - 147: Deception Group’s Plan
Chapter 176: Chapter 147: Deception Group’s Plan”Rest assured, Mr. Albert, we will protect your safety,” Police Chief Charles’s hand rested on Albert’s shoulder, his steady voice soothing him as he trembled all over.

”I... I understand,” Albert’s body was still stiff, he forced a dry smile, then glanced at the dozen burly men around him with broad, rugged faces, and wiped the sweat from his forehead, ”Police Chief Charles, your men...”

”What about them?” Charles turned to look at the officers.

Each officer was fully armed, staring fixedly towards the door, unblinkingly focused and utterly still.

”Are they perhaps... a bit too dedicated?” Albert always found these officers peculiar, but couldn’t quite put his finger on why.

”Isn’t dedication a good thing?” Police Chief Charles looked at him and slowly said, ”These are all top-notch elites from the precinct; that’s why they are relatively... quiet.”

He paused, then added, ”Silence is the most powerful force.”

”Boom—”

Suddenly, a violent explosion sounded, shaking the entire building.

”What... what happened?” Albert looked at Charles, bewildered and shocked, while Charles just stood up with a serious face and walked aside to inquire about the situation.

A moment later, he returned and projected a video onto the pristine white wall.

In the video, a tanker truck was heading straight for the Keyin Company building, bursting into flames with a loud blast.

This tanker truck also, of course, ripped through the police line, in fact, as soon as the officers saw the tanker truck, they rapidly evacuated from the target area under the lead of a Police Chief.

”They actually...” Charles’s eyebrows were tightly furrowed.

”What... what now? Is the situation dire? Should we relocate?” Albert watched the severe explosion in the video, his heart skipped a beat, he hadn’t expected that these people would go to such extents to kill him.

”We can’t leave.” Police Chief Charles shook his head, his voice tinged with resignation, ”Leaving now would only make things worse, and you have to realize, if we can’t demonstrate here that the precinct is committed to protecting you, your future life will be miserable. Can you run forever if we flee?”

”This...” A drop of sweat slid down Albert’s forehead as he suddenly grasped the severity of the situation.

He had thought this whole affair was simple—that he would be safe just by staying under police protection as he was really just a rubber stamper after all.

But now!

This situation frustrated him immensely, why!

Why should that damned fox target him; he truly was just a rubber stamper!

That was it!

Why must he be the one to die!?

At that moment, Charles projected another image on the wall of the outside of the building where the precinct was holding back.

”Hand over the murderer! Hand over the murderer! Hand over the murderer!” After the tanker explosion, an enraged crowd suddenly gathered from the streets and alleys, shouting with raised arms, demanding justice as they understood it.

The streets weren’t filled with gunfire and battle, but rather a large crowd of protesters, and therefore, the officers could only use non-lethal weapons to hold back the demonstrators.

However, this was still District D, where gunfire occasionally stressed everyone’s nerves; once the conflict erupted, it could trigger an unprecedented riot.

The angry crowd needed an outlet, and now, Mr. Albert sitting in this building was clearly an ideal vent.

Though killing him would prove nothing, no one cared about that.

Mr. Albert broke into a sweat again.

”Boom—” The walls of the room suddenly burst apart, throwing up dust, and behind it, three individuals dressed as cleaners appeared, raising their guns and firing several shots in Albert’s direction.

Police Chief Charles was quick to react, pulling Albert away to cover behind a barricade as he rapidly commanded the officers on the side, ”Quick, forward, prioritize the targets!”

In an instant, the clatter of gunfire seemed to strike directly at Albert’s heart, the smell of gunpowder and bullets piercing his nose, making it sting.

A regular white-collar worker who was only there for the pay was unaccustomed to such scenes; he crouched behind the barricade, holding his head with both hands, his body continuously trembling.

But these three individuals dressed as cleaners and bounty hunters were clearly no match for the ten officers present, and were quickly shot down in a hail of gunfire.

”How did they get up here? Wasn’t this building sealed?” Charles stood up and inquired from his subordinate.

”We had sealed off the entire building; these individuals might have been hiding here in advance, we don’t know how many more like them there might be, but this place is no longer secure,” his subordinate swiftly responded.

”Police Chief Charles, should we leave? They’ve already found us...” The recent scare had terrified Albert, interrupting Charles’s conversation with his subordinate.

”We can’t leave; I will arrange for personnel to hold this place. Rest assured, Mr. Albert,” Police Chief Charles was still sure of himself.

But that’s exactly what you said before bringing me here!

And the bullet just now was only five centimeters away from me! If you hadn’t pulled me, I would have died!
