The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 170 - 145 The Storm is Brewing
Chapter 170: Chapter 145 The Storm is Brewing”Three million... plus two kilograms of Black Silver... it amounts to tens of millions,” Jiang Shu calculated the value, then directly asked Wolf, ”This Mr. Albert...”

”He’s not the mastermind behind this case, from the evidence we have and my personal speculation... he seems to be just someone who is responsible for stamping approval,” Wolf’s voice carried a hint of confusion, ”I’m also unclear why the Fox is targeting him. Could he be the real power behind the scenes? But he’s just middle to upper management...”

”There are two possibilities,” Jiang Shu said as he got off the bed and began to dress, ”First, just as you said, perhaps this Albert is the real mastermind, and your entire police station has been fooled; or second, the Fox used the money and Black Silver not to buy Albert’s life, but the lives of all other suspects except him.”

”Hmm?” Wolf felt he was onto something, ”You mean...”

”Exactly, beneath heavy gold, there will surely be daring men. There will be quite a few righteous partners or Bounty Hunters targeting this Albert, and the police station will definitely have to deploy a large force to protect this Albert,” Jiang Shu finished dressing and walked into the bathroom.

Today, he was just wearing comfortable casual clothes; if it weren’t for the sake of appearance, who would want to wear a suit?

”A diversion?” Wolf realized the meaning behind Jiang Shu’s words.

”That’s roughly the idea,” Jiang Shu nodded, turned on the tap, and started washing up.

Wolf furrowed his brows in thought; indeed, the Fox was not someone to be taken lightly.

Originally, the Deception Group had to contend against the protection of the entire police station, a clear disadvantage in terms of forces. But now, the situation had changed in an instant to their advantage, and instead, it was the police station that would be run ragged.

And possibly, there was even more to it.

Jiang Shu silently pondered in his heart. If he were the Fox, the significance of this bounty would definitely be far more than apparent.

In a deeper sense, regardless of the outcome, this bounty would stir up the rebellious sentiment of the people. Under the leadership of some profit-driven desperados, the scale of this bounty operation would be substantial.

And the next ”act of justice” by the Deception Group would receive even more support, and the behavior of the public would become more radical.

It was almost like...

Distributing guns to the Zhang gangsters.

But that wasn’t all; according to Jiang Shu’s understanding of the Fox and coupled with the previous letter from the Fox, this bounty also provided immediate benefits.

For instance, those two kilograms of Black Silver would surely attract a number of Key Masters; from the Fox’s words, it wasn’t hard to discern that he was recruiting such Key Masters.

At the very least, he would gain some understanding of these Key Masters.

Moreover, two kilograms of Black Silver should also pique the interest of some organizations, and the Fox could use this opportunity to gain insight into what lies within the murky waters of the Seventh District.

A simple bounty involved so many intricacies.

It’s too easy to mess up with such an approach. At least, if Jiang Shu were in the Fox’s shoes, he wouldn’t opt for such a risky move, as it required absolute confidence in controlling the overall situation, something he didn’t have the luxury to spare his energy for dealing with all sorts of unforeseen circumstances.

And besides, it would require a significant amount of manpower to control the situation.

Manpower?

Where would the manpower come from?

Could it be that the Deception Group had more people? Why hadn’t they been seen before?

That shouldn’t be the case.

Jiang Shu slightly furrowed his brow. He had finished his washing up and emerged from the bathroom, continuing to speak to Wolf, ”Right now, there aren’t many choices for your police station.”

”Hmm?” Wolf waited for Jiang Shu to continue, as he usually took Jiang Shu’s advice before making decisions.

”The problem is evident, you’re short on personnel. So the choice is simple, uniformly assign personnel, protect every suspect from Keyin Company, but as you well know, should the bounty actually attract a large number of ’Hunters,’ and if Albert isn’t the main focus of protection, he won’t be safe,” Jiang Shu continued, ”And if you focus on protecting Albert, the other suspects will probably be taken down one by one.”

”I understand,” Wolf nodded, ”With the current police force at our disposal in the police station, after protecting Albert, we can only properly safeguard three others, while there are a total of ten suspects apart from Albert.”

”Right, if there isn’t enough police force, can’t you call upon the Violent Terror Mobile Team? At times like these...” Jiang Shu recalled.

”As for the Violent Terror Mobile Team... we’ve already notified them, but their nature is different. Once they get involved...” Wolf paused, ”This incident would be categorized as a large-scale terrorist event, and all participants would automatically become hostile terrorists.”

”So, what does that mean?” Jiang Shu asked puzzled, ”What would happen?”

”It would cause a lot of trouble,” Wolf sighed, ”There would be a comprehensive sweep and crackdown, and the Seventh District would be thrown into chaos, making the situation even harder to control.”

He continued, ”So we’re only thinking of borrowing some members of the Mobile Team, but in that case, the handover procedures are somewhat complicated. Our Police Chief is negotiating with them; it will likely take some time.”

”Alright, I get it. So there are still two choices, either separately protect three people properly, or protect all ten remaining suspects together?” Jiang Shu threw out another option, ”I won’t interfere with your decision. It’s yours to make.”

Wolf didn’t hesitate for long and immediately replied, ”Gather them together; that’s exactly our original plan. The only difference this time will be the significantly reduced police force. I’ll suggest as much to Police Chief Charles.”
