Chapter 173: Chapter 146: Giving the Fox a Surprise.Upon hearing Kirie’s command, all the officers in the room simultaneously went offline with their wristbands before shutting them down.

Jiang Shu followed suit, turning off his own wristband and then turning his gaze to the four Tablet Spirits.

Little did he know that with one look from him, each of the Tablet Spirits bristled, baring their teeth and scowling at him.

Alpha Beta Gamma Ding: ”You can doubt there’s a problem with your own intelligence, but you cannot insult the firewall that Ruo Ma has set up! How could we be breached by such a weak hacker!”

Jiang Shu pondered the words of the four Tablet Spirits for a moment, unable to figure out whether they were scolding him or themselves.

”Do you know what technique they used?” Jiang Shu moved past this issue and asked Alpha Beta Gamma Ding.

Alpha Beta Gamma Ding immediately got busy, as did Miss Kirie, who was also checking the system for faults but could not restore the intranet communication no matter what, leaving the data center completely paralyzed.

And now, with the intranet unusable and unwilling to log into the Lonely City network, and the surveillance compromised, they had no idea what the current situation really was.

”How could this be?” Kirie’s forehead beaded with sweat as she murmured something indistinctly under her breath.

The officers nearby exchanged glances, unsure of what exactly had happened.

Kirie was already a very strong technician, with a wealth of knowledge, one person equalling three from other police stations.

Not only could she address the day-to-day issues of the station and her research abilities were also high, but her computer skills were also formidable, and now she was stumped by this hacker?

And what about those White Hats that the police station had invited? Why hadn’t they managed to make any contribution?

Thinking of this, the officers simultaneously harbored a hint of worry in their hearts; though professionally trained not to fear the unknown, this inexplicable sense of oppression still made their hearts race.

”Can you still contact the other officers on defense duty?” Kirie asked the officers present.

The officers shook their heads, ”Our wristbands have been shut down, and as for the radio... we just tried it, and it’s broken too.”

”The radio’s broken too? When did this happen?” Kirie’s delicate eyebrows furrowed more intensely, as the situation seemed to be spiraling out of control.

”Right when you discovered the collapse of the data center.” An officer responded, ”I switched on the radio then, but all I could hear was static.”

Silence fell once again, with only Kirie continuing her futile check for network vulnerabilities.

Suddenly, Jiang Shu broke the quiet; he quickly walked to Kirie, showing her the data from little Alpha, ”Alpha found something, look. It says... this hacker physically intruded.”

”Physical intrusion?” Kirie looked at Jiang Shu, her large eyes flickering with a layer of moisture. She suddenly understood something.

Indeed, although he understood nothing, he had the foreknowledge of facts.

With his help, there was no need to worry about failure at all.

Thinking this, Kirie felt considerably more at ease. Reviewing the data collected by little Alpha, she pondered for a while and nodded, ”I got it, they haven’t come in yet, we’re still safe. You three, go find the other officers on defense and tell them to shut down their wristbands, then regroup towards the direction of the conference hall.”

”Yes.” The ordered officers immediately disappeared in the hallway, their knowledge of the station’s layout thorough.

”So, what did they do?” Jiang Shu could feel that Kirie had relaxed quite a bit.

This meant that the hacker’s capabilities were not overwhelmingly superior to the police station; more likely, they had used a more clever method to achieve their goal.

The answer to this question was important to him, as there weren’t many hackers with that kind of crushing capability...

If it was Sister Ruo...

Although the possibility was extremely small; after all, the fox probably wouldn’t give him such a ”surprise”.

”Little Alpha captured a type of sound wave above twenty thousand hertz, inaudible to the human ear,” Kirie explained while heading toward the conference hall, ”they are present all over the building, and the sources of those sound waves coincide with the locations of officers.”

”They hacked into the officers’ wristbands?” Jiang Shu understood, ”To affect the entire police station’s network? But still, breaking through the firewall would be difficult, right?”

”Right. The White Hats would naturally consider this, but the Deception Group didn’t do that; they haven’t hacked into the firewall. Instead, they’ve physically destroyed the network and surveillance within the station,” Kirie explained.

She thought for a moment and then guessed, ”Using the wristbands to emit targeted frequency sound waves to attack the computer cases in the data center and suchlike could cause nanolevel displacement of the disks, making the read/write heads resonate and thereby getting damaged.”

”Is that how the surveillance was also destroyed?” Jiang Shu thought before asking, ”So, they’re nearby?”

”Yes, we should head back to the conference hall first,” Kirie said, ”Now, without surveillance, we can’t anticipate the Deception Group’s moves. We can only shrink our defenses as much as possible and avoid being defeated one by one.”

”Indeed.” Jiang Shu nodded, there was no denying it.

The group quickly returned to the conference hall, and near it, Jiang Shu also dispatched the three remaining Tablet Spirits, Beta Gamma Ding, to act as surveillance, positioning them at the key passageways of the corridor outside the conference hall doors. After their vigorous insistence, Police Chief Wolf temporarily promoted them to the rank of officers.
