Chapter 165: Chapter 142 Baglas Effect (I’m not late!!!)_2”Hisss—” Suddenly, Jiang Shu remembered something and corrected himself, ”Kirie can be quite stubborn, but she won’t oppose you.”

”Oh...” Su Xiaoou thought about it in the way Jiang Shu meant and realized that it indeed seemed to be the case.

Kirie always showed little interest in her performances, usually propping her head with her hand while watching her perform, only occasionally being fooled by her tricks; whereas Shen Xuwan always appeared truly intrigued, showing appropriate amazement at her magic performances regardless of how rough they were.

”So, during the next month, you should focus on researching the structure of magic. I’ll still give you some guidance, and I’ll let you know in advance if I have a performance,” Jiang Shu continued, ”and what you need to do is to make a certain amount of money using magic within this month.”

”Make money?” Su Xiaoou pondered thoughtfully.

Then Jiang Shu tapped her head with a pen from the table, ”No breaking the law, no stealing, no robbing.”

”Oh,” Su Xiaoou sighed, somewhat disheartened.

”Anyway, talking about feelings or skill level in magic is too cliché. I think talking about money is more realistic,” Jiang Shu laughed, ”after all, you’ll need to make a living off this, so that’s that.”

He added, ”By the way, you’ll still need to continue with the weekend remedial classes with Kirie and Shen Xuwan, as well as my classes.”

”Wait, let me get this straight...” Su Xiaoou mulled over Jiang Shu’s words, then paraphrased, ”you mean... I still have to attend classes? Isn’t this just adding a street performance task? You make it sound... like I’m about to graduate.”

”Just kidding,” Jiang Shu chuckled, ”but indeed, the teaching of spirit magic ends here, and the rest of the path you must travel by yourself.”

”Ah? Really?” Su Xiaoou hesitated, ”but what about the psychological knowledge you mentioned...”

”You can study that on your own.” Jiang Shu smiled, and he pulled over four Tablet Spirits, ”For the street magic performances coming up, just do your best,”

The other four, Ding included, timely sent out a warm barrage of well-wishes.

Ding: You’ve been empowered! Hurry, deliver!

”Ding, on the other hand, shyly smiled, obediently deleted the half-typed barrage, and sent one saying: Good luck.”

Su Xiaoou: ”...”

Although she didn’t quite understand their intent, she inexplicably felt underestimated.

”Alright, there are no other matters for now.” Jiang Shu checked his schedule, which was free for today, ”Go back and keep practicing. Also, prepare for your street magic performances; I mean it seriously, and you know the consequences if you don’t meet the standards.”

”Yes!” Su Xiaoou saluted him, then quickly disappeared inside the Magic House. She needed to gather her thoughts as well, faced with Jiang Shu, who never played by the rules, she often found it challenging.

However, it was clear, what Jiang Shu said was right—a good magician is indeed built from a wealth of performance experience.

As she left, Jiang Shu watched her go and slowly nodded.

His intent was not solely to test Su Xiaoou; he also wanted to verify some things, things concerning the Main Brain and Character Cards.

Although it appeared that he was not currently facing any immediate worries, it was clear, from the bank heist, that he felt a force enveloping and pushing him in a certain direction.

He disliked this passive sense, being a magician who preferred to control everything.

As he taught Su Xiaoou, a spirit magician’s role was always to manipulate information, and now, he needed to do more to gain more information.

”Tablet Spirit, check out this school,” Jiang Shu instructed a nearby Tablet Spirit softly, ”The school was burnt years ago, at least five, and there had been incidents of students being detained for creating illegal profit-making entries.”

”Understood! Any other information?”

”Other than that...” Jiang Shu considered, ”Clo might have studied here, though it’s unlikely. Also, try to dig up as much detail as possible about Clo’s connections before and after setting up his Mechanics Disciple.”

Now, the two leads he could investigate were Clo and the Main Brain.

Clo had once half-jokingly mentioned such a school, which Jiang Shu had taken to heart, believing it to be a matter of reality, from which he might trace some clues.

Secondly, why did Clo know about him?

The answer to this question, Jiang Shu tentatively categorized as a privilege issue of the Key Master, but this answer wasn’t exactly reliable.

From the words of the fox and Shen Xuwan, it could be guessed that the Key Master appeared during that period.

Of course, it was also possible that this Key Master was an exceptionally special existence.

However, if it really was the Key Master, and the privileges exercised by the Key Master were granted by the Main Brain, could it be assumed that his time travel had been arranged?

Combining this with the Derivative Entry ”Past Life and Present Life,” he might have already experienced a lifetime in Lonely City, and in that lifetime...

He seemed to have never obtained a Character Card.

...

Could it be that this was actually a restarted timeline?

Following this line of thought from Clo, the conclusion Jiang Shu reached was quite shocking.

Of course, this was merely his conjecture, which might have some logic, but all logic was based on a possibility, like a building without a foundation, everything was suspended in air, and no judgment could be directly made.

However...

”How interesting,” Jiang Shu suddenly laughed, his smile still very gentle.

He hated boring things the most, and the current situation seemed very interesting to him.

It was as if someone had presented him with a puzzle using Lonely City, and he was a puzzle solver. He didn’t care whether he was always in someone else’s trap or being pushed along by others.

As long as it was interesting enough.

As for the third line involving the fox and Deception Group...

The judicial trial of the first instance at the Keyin Company was tomorrow, Friday. According to his prediction, tomorrow’s trial would definitely not be able to convict everyone, and the most powerful figure among them would probably evade punishment.

This was no longer surprising in Lonely City.

By then, the fox would surely bring the entire Deception Group to do something, and he could also take this opportunity to do something.

As for the fourth line, Liu Tingruo...

Forget it, let’s leave that for now, Sister Liu’s matters weren’t that easy to handle.

After organizing his thoughts, Jiang Shu began to think about the magic performance for the next week; he tentatively decided on a...

A magic trick he had no certainty of executing.

The Baglas Effect, long renowned, was mastered by only a few magicians.

To understand the Baglas Effect, one naturally needed to first understand ACAAN, or ”Any Card At Any Number”.

A Paper Card Magic effect, quite simple, the audience provides a card and a number, and counting to that number in the deck reveals that card.

Of course, in ACAAN, there wasn’t a rule that the magician couldn’t touch the cards, nor that the cards couldn’t be shuffled, nor that the audience had to spur-of-the-moment select a card and a number.

Thus, magicians could achieve this effect by controlling the cards or by forcing choices, there were many methods.

However, the ACAAN version performed by Baglas was such that the deck was set aside from the start, completely untouched throughout, with the audience randomly selecting a number and a paper card.

And counting to that number in that deck would precisely reveal that particular paper card.

A magical effect miraculous to behold, and in the following years, countless magicians attempted to uncover its secrets.

Some succeeded, some failed.

The Baglas Effect was undeniably a peak in the world of magic.

And now, Jiang Shu wanted to scale it.
