Hero of Darkness

Chapter 1238: The New Ranker

Morpheus, who was no different than a vampire at this point, stood firmly against the remainder of the mercenary force. Only 5 people were left, including the team leader, who stayed behind with the captive.

As for the other four facing him at the moment, three of them were only holding knives, while the last one at the back had a subcompact Glock in his hands.

The reason is that none of them expected to get attacked so brazenly and have 90% of their gunmen taken down by just a single invader. Especially given how obscure their hiding location was, and they had made their ransom demands only an hour ago.

Their leaders hadn’t even received a proper response from the targeted party yet, but there was already someone fighting them to save the captive.

”Hey, let’s end this quickly. I haven’t had dinner yet.” spoke Morpheus and cracked his neck.

His eyes glowed bright red again as he quickly got into his predator mode.

Thud!

Thud!

With both heavy and rapid steps, he charged towards the enemies with conviction visible on his face.

Bang!

Bang!

The man with the Glock shot at Morpheus multiple times, but as if anticipating the trajectory, the latter turned into a black flash and instantly dodged all the bullets.

Without wasting another moment, he sprinted and lunged in the middle of the four men.

Bang!

Swoosh!

He dodged another shot aimed at his head, and now even the gunman had only a few bullets left.

But in that split moment, one of them quickly stabbed his knife into his left deltoid, while using that opportunity, the gunman one-shot Morpheus in the stomach.

Bang!

This time, the damage was finally done. For the first time, Morpheus was actually hurt.

A visible relief flashed on the gunman’s face. Victory was now mere moments away.

Squirm!

Squirm!

But instead of falling, Morpheus remained unaffected as the wound instantly healed.

Forget the wound, even the black longcoat and the shirt he wore no longer had the gunshot hole left as if he was never shot in the first place.

Morpheus quickly grabbed the neck of the mercenary on the left and pulled him into the line of fire. Then pulled out the knife with his teeth while his right palm was also stabbed by one of the remaining men holding a knife.

Morpheus let go of the man on the left, grabbed the knife from the teeth, and plunged it into the neck of the man with his left hand instantly.

As soon as the man with a lodging knife in his neck fell down, the guman reacted.

Shoot!

Bang!

Morpheus instantly crouched to avoid getting shot in the head and quickly kicked the shooter’s shin.

Crack!

His shin bone cracked as Morpheus pulled the knife out of his right palm and stabbed it in between the legs of the second man, who had previously stabbed him in the deltoid.

”ARRRGGHHH!!!” wailed the man in immeasurable pain as his future lineage ended at that moment.

The gunman, whose leg was broken, got picked by Morpheus, and before he could react...

BANG!

He was thrown and plastered on the wall behind him, dying on impact instantly.

”ARGG!!!”

Watching this gory scene... the last man remaining was scared out of his wits.

Morpheus stood firmly, his gaze cold and filled with killing intent.

”You motherfucker! FUCK!!!” wailed the man with a knife in his nuts.

Step!

Step!

Morpheus then grabbed the head of the man whose groin he had just stabbed, turned him around, and wrapped his hands around his neck as he locked eyes with the last man on the opposite end while holding the head of his comrade.

Crack!!

Morpheus snapped the man’s neck as if he were commencing an execution.

”No! Stay away from me!” said the last remaining man among the four.

Thud!

His back struck against the wall as his legs almost gave out in fear.

Because right in front of him, Morpheus underwent the last part of the transformation.

Snap!

Snap!

With snapping noises... finally, Morpheus’ vampire fangs came out and his eyes turned pitch-black as he slowly walked towards the man menacingly.

”No! Please let me go!” begged the man as he froze in fear.

But Morpheus’ eyes had no hint of mercy in them as he opened his jaw far wider as the fangs also grew by an inch, and he instantly bit the man.

”ARRGGGHHH!!!”

A frightening cry echoed in the entire warehouse as Morpheus ripped off the man’s neck with his jaw, his face and mouth now filled with fresh blood.

Hearing that cry... the team leader was scared shitless and got behind the captive girl who was tied to a chair.

Her mouth was covered with tape, and her hands and legs were tied to the chair with rope.

But after hearing the cry filled with terror, even the captive girl was scared for her life.

To her, whoever was outside could be far more dangerous than the man holding the gun over her head.

Step!

Step!

Morpheus walked in through the front door with both his arms up.

”Don’t worry... I come in peace.” he spoke with a mischievous tone.

”You bastard! You killed them all!

Who the fuck are you?!” asked the mercenary group leader as he pointed his gun at Morpheus while taking out a combat knife and placing it over the girl’s neck.

”I’m but justice finding its path and punishing you for all the innocent lives you’ve destroyed.

I’m your repentance. Your atonement. Your salvation from all the sins.” spoke Morpheus with a cryptic vocabulary.

”Did her father send you?” asked the mercenary leader.

”And who is her father? More importantly... who is she?

I was just tracking you down for months. Luckily, I finally found you bastards in this secluded warehouse.

Now, I shall finally have my revenge for killing my team.” responded Morpheus with a cold tone.

”Team? What team?

I don’t even know what the fuck you are talking about!” rebutted the leader.

”You took everything from me.” said Morpheus with a vengeful tone.

”I don’t even know who you are.” replied the mercenary leader with a confused expression.

”Ah, it’s been a year already, but it’s still so hurtful to see that you don’t even remember us.

Were the cries of anguish of my comrades just another unimportant casualty for you?

Have you killed so much that you don’t even remember their names and faces?

Looks like there is no redemption for you.” spoke Morpheus.

He slowly took a step with a domineering aura.

”Don’t come closer! I will kill her!

Believe me, I’ll do it!” shouted the leader as he pointed the gun back at the girl’s head.

”MMM!!!!”

The girl flailed in fear; her life was on the line, and the supposed savior didn’t even come to save her at all.

He was just hunting these mercenaries while she happened to be their captive.

”I believe you.” replied Morpheus.

Blip!

Suddenly, the mercenary leader felt losing control all over his body as his nerves and grip strength gave up the moment he saw Morpheus’ eyes turning golden.

In reality, this was the sleep-inducing skills he mentioned before.

Soon, a small green droplet appeared on the tip of his left forefinger and shot forward towards the mercenary leader.

Like a corrosive acid, it instantly created a hole in the man’s neck, and the toxin spread through his entire body.

This was the neurotoxin skill Morpheus got from the blonde woman just two days ago.

Now, all of the mercenaries were wiped out, and the only witness left behind was the girl who was wobbling in fear.

”Don’t worry. I’m not gonna hurt you. I was here only for them.” said Morpheus as he crouched.

He pulled out the duct tape from the girl’s mouth slowly.

”Now tell me, who are you? And why did these people hold you captive here?” asked Morpehus.

”Thank you! Thank you for saving me.

I... I don’t know these people. But I think I know why they kidnapped me and brought me here.

They are after my dad!” spoke the girl hastily.

”Did they ask for money or something as ransom?” queried Morpheus as he started untying the girl.

”Yes! They asked for 5 Billion Won as ransom to my father just an hour ago.

They were waiting for my father to accept the terms and set an exchange spot.

But you suddenly showed up and stopped them.” spoke the black haired girl with a grateful tone as she heaved a sigh of relief.

Morpheus started untying her legs as he spoke...

”Your father must be a rich man to ask for such a great sum in exchange for his daughter’s life.

These bastards usually only target rich conglomerates and big business tycoons since that makes them a lot of money, and most of the time, the victim party doesn’t release that information to the law and authorities, as well as the public.

It helps them maintain their image in the business world while these fuckers get a boatload of cash for easy snatch and release job.” he spoke sternly and moved behind the chair to release her hands.

”I have been tracking them for almost a year now. So I guess I should thank you for becoming their target then.” spoke Morpheus with some dry humor.

The girl, on the other hand, asked Morpheus...

”How did you stop them all? There were at least 20 of them.

And I heard plenty of gunshots. But you look... unhurt.” she queried with discerning eyes.

To her genuine query, Morpheus replied with complete honesty...

”Because I’m an S-Rank Hunter.”
